    Matt what is the difference between a football jig and a swimming jig.

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  2 роки тому

      football jig is meant to be dragged and the swim jig is meant to be swam higher in the water column

    Do they make a brush or structure jig? I really like how the dirty jigs brush guard how they ride close to the hook, I hate a jig that the guard is sticking up away from the hook

    Hey Matt, love the channel and this video was fantastic. One thing I noticed is you use alot of 'chunk' style trailers on you jigs. Is there a reason why or when you use a chunk over say a beaver style trailer? Maybe a follow up video on trailers may be good Thanks

    Is the “stroking” a jig more of a clear water technique or does it work in dirty water? If so, do you need more bulk and/or more trailer action in dirty water?

  • @derek0t0briske

    This was great! I throw a football jig a lot, and catch many fish on it, so I've stayed away from other jigs. Will definitely look into some of these other ones.

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  3 роки тому

      Are you talking about the Luke Clausen Casting jig? If so, I love that jig for offshore applications. Got a great O'shaugnessy hook, comes through cover well, and is the perfect jig for stroking!

    • @robertstone3417
      @robertstone3417 3 роки тому +1

      @@MattStefanFishing No, It isn't Luke Clausen. I was wrong. It is Denny Brauer and It is specifically called a structure jig. It has what I would call the archi head shape with a line tie at roughly 180 out front. Looks like it would be good for skipping.

    Matt, do you ever add or subtract skirt material on your jigs based on water clarity? For example, in muddy water? How as bout tannic/tea stained water?
    In fall of 2019, I was prefishing the Great Pee Dee river here in SC. I was fishing the Bitsy Bug jig and catching quality fish (especially for the river). I couldn’t get bit on a heavier/bigger jig. Water clarity had a nice green color which is as clear as you’ll find that river. 1 week later, had a tournament. Water was much higher, incoming tide and muddy. I couldn’t get bit on the small jig. Went to a full size jig and could only catch 10-11 inch fish. Blew my mind. Since then, I’ve wondered if I had bulked up my skirt, could I have enticed more quality bites since the water was higher and muddy?

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  3 роки тому +2

      Yes i do. I’ve got a video coming out shortly on how i prep my jigs and removing skirt material is part of my process. For clear water I’ll remove up to half a skirt

    For the Luke Clausen finesse jig, what rod, reel, line are you using?

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  3 роки тому +1

      I use a custom MHX NMB-873 rod (7’4” 3 power rod) with an Abu Garcia Revo AL-F high speed reel and 15 lb 100% fluorocarbon. If it’s very clear water i drop down to 10 or 12 lb.
