Obito/Tobi personality act was probably put on for the sake of Deidara. Deidara hates the Uchiha ever since meeting Itachi and he also appears to have a mild inferiority complex. Could you imagine how Deidara would act if he found out his new partner was an Uchiha AND the true leader/director?! His performance and willingness as an Akatsuki would plummet. Obito acting like a fool satisfies Deidara's need to feel senior/superior & deflects any serious questions Deidara might have for him like his origin or secrets of his mangekyou space-time ninjutsu. After Deidara died there was no reason for Obito to continue the charade
He acted like that before Deidara joined. He literally stated that he put on the Tobi persona so that world wouldn’t know Madara was still alive. And Deidara didn’t hate the Uchiha, he didn’t like Itachi because Itachi bested him, same goes with Orochimaru
If I recall tobi even said to itachi when he was bringing him into the akatsuki that he didn't want people knowing he was madara because that would alarm the world remember one of the reason's the akastuki were able to operate so well up until shippuden was because they were for the most part an unknown entity at the time they didn't really do anything big or grand until sometime around shippuden Jiraiya even said as much too that they stuck to the shaodw's talking small jobs here and there
Konan is such an interesting case considering the fact that both Tobi and Zetsu mentioned in the akatsuki novel that she will be a problem but not entirely as long as Nagato is on their side. They said as long as Nagato is loyal, she wouldn’t try anything. And the way Konan was depicted, she has full trust on Pain saying stuff like he has never been defeated and words of warning are useless to them. That’s why it baffles me that people are saying she’s been planning that ocean bomb for a decade when she never once thought of Nagato dying or losing. Tobi also mentioned in their fight that she was way more reasonable and rational than Nagato “i can see Nagato being persuade by the thought of true peace, but you Konan?” But yeah, I’ll say that she’s more loyal to her friends than the goal, hence she trust Naruto.
Konan was definitely more loyal to her friends than those goals, but she could've been developing that "ocean bomb for a decade" because she had to deal with Tobi & she knew Nagato couldn't

There's one more thing. Maybe Konan never trusted Obito but she was very loyal to the plan of collecting bijuu's. When Naruto reached to talk to Nagato and eventually Nagato decided to put his trust in Naruto, Konan couldn't believe it, she was very shocked seeing Nagato give his life for Naruto. Because of this interaction it seems like she was more loyal to that plan than Nagato was. In the anime Obito says "I thought both of you agreed with my plan, she was loyal and didn't seem like she would betray him (betray him or his plans idk don't remember that)". 10:24 here I feel like, it seemed Konan was more loyal to the plan than Nagato was that's why Obito didn't take any action on Konan. She seems loyal because- the same thing- she was very very shocked seeing Nagato putting his trust in Naruto and abandoning their plans.

there is an interesting part about Pain's relationship with Itachi and Sasuke. In the last scene of Chapter 363, when Tobi arrives at Ame to meet with Pain and Konan, pain immediately asks about Sasuke. i believe that Pain was worried about being replaced by Sasuke. Tobi a few panels later references how Itachi "doesn't have much longer", and in the next scene (start of Chapter 364) Itachi is standing in the rain, which Pain is able to use his rainmaker jutsu, as a way to confirm if itachi's illness was real and/or progressing. Also Itachi standing in the rain could have been a way to signal something to Pain but we ultimately don't know enough about their relationship as a whole. This theory also may debunk Itachi standing in the rain to progress his illness depending on how you interpret the scene but I still believe he tried to make himself sick while already having an immunity condition. That's my take.
I second that belief of yours. I remember Obito saying something about 'not wanting to link Sasuke to the Gedo Statue yet', so that implies that he may have wanted for Sasuke to be the Rinnegan wielder after Nagato

@@screwyou-mk9rx idk but here is the answer from chatgpt: Yes, Itachi Uchiha was aware of the **Six Paths of Pain** and the fact that they were controlled by a real person. In the **Naruto** series, **Pain** (Nagato) uses the Six Paths of Pain technique to control six corpses through chakra receivers implanted in their bodies. These bodies serve as vessels for the different abilities that Nagato can control remotely, while he himself is hidden away, usually in a different location. Itachi was very knowledgeable about various techniques and the workings of different shinobi, including the abilities of others. He had access to detailed intelligence, especially after working as a member of **Akatsuki**, an organization that Pain (Nagato) was part of. Itachi would have had a good understanding of how the Six Paths of Pain functioned. In fact, when Itachi faced **Nagato** (Pain), he showed awareness of the technique and acknowledged Nagato's powers. Additionally, when Itachi faced **Nagato** in the **"Naruto Shippuden"** series, he made some strategic moves based on his knowledge of the situation. Moreover, during the Akatsuki's interactions, Itachi was shown to be well-aware of many aspects of the organization's members and their techniques, including the nature of the Six Paths of Pain, even if this knowledge wasn't explicitly emphasized during the series. He likely knew that Nagato was controlling the Six Paths remotely and had a deep understanding of how dangerous this power could be.
I disagree with Itachi siding with Obito in your Civil War scenario, Itachi wanted Obito gone and even took measures to try to kill him, I think a Civil War scenario gives Itachi his best opportunity to get rid of "Madara" because he can use Nagato's strength to corner Obito in battle, plus we see when Nagato and Itachi are reanimated that they have an at least somewhat friendly or respectful relationship, I think Itachi was willing to put up the facade with Pain for a lot longer than he was with Obito and would've taken any side that involves being against Obito, as he can perhaps take Obito's eyes and use them to defeat Nagato and Konan later, this assumes Itachi staying alive long enough of course, but with his MS diminishing, taking Obito's eyes would've probably been a route Itachi could go before eventually trading eyes with Sasuke or whatever, or he can just turn on Nagato after to take the Rinnegan.
