    You are the first SewRuber that uses a Pfaff!! I love my Pfaff. My mom bought one almost 40 years ago, and it is still going. I just bought my first one two years ago. I love the way your room is set up. I came here looking for ideas on how to set up my sewing room in my new house.

      LOL don't be too jealous. It's really tight in there. The table that holds my machines is far too small and I only have about 2' of clearance to walk around that fabulous center worktable. But I try and make use of every inch I've got. Such a privilege to have a whole room. I am thankful!

    I’ve used the graph paper method for years and really played with it last winter when I redid my sewing room. I put in all new pieces except some thrifted rolling racks for fabric. During COVID I was able to buy a few IKEA pieces at a time, haul them home in my CRV, slide them downstairs, assemble and arrange them by myself according to my plan. It all worked extremely well and is a gem to work in. And…it saved my sanity during a difficult time.

    Love the ink on canvas you college roommate did. I don’t think I’d be sticking pins on it even if it is canvas. That’s a keepsake you don’t want to ruin. I too use an old door for my cutting table but I had to add a 5” strip so my giant cutting mat would fit. One side has the drawers from an old water bed and one day I hope to add cubes. Currently in tearing everything apart so I can change rooms. I really enjoyed your tour. Wish my window & room were as big s yours.

    Isn't it amazing how we make our sewing spaces the way we think they should be and then we work in them. We find that something is not quite right. Even a large window doesn't seem to light the room up. Maybe more lights? Where would we put them.? As we are puzzling this , it comes across our mind that either the walls are painted a darker shade than they need to be or our favorite piece of dark large storage solution is sucking up all the light! Wow! Why haven't I thought of that before. Thanks slot Jen! My first ever sewing room and I could not figure out why my room feels dark even with the lights on nice large double window, nice ceiling light and task lighting. I have white open shelving on the upper wall on one side. I have a black Ikea cube shelving under the white ones. An old oak teachers desk on another wall.on either side of my windows I have two custom made oak bookcases that my wonderful husband made for me. I don't Want to paint any of the wood selves so now that I recognize the problem, I will come up with a solution. I love my oldest, my wonderful bookshelves, so maybe the Ikea and the open shelving needs another home? I have some thinking to do. Thanks Jen. I love your cutting table. Sending hugs and prayers.

      As long as you have solid surface floors, it's no big deal. Stuff slides around so easily! I moved those bookcases myself (had to take them apart somewhat) and Mark was astonished. Leverage, it's all about leverage, and being able to slide them across a vinyl plank floor. When we bought this house 3 years ago, I told Mark NO CARPET. He said "not even in the bedrooms? Are you sure?" I said nope, none. The people at the flooring place said "how many threshholds are you gonna need? I said 3. Front door, back door, garage door. When they said "what about the closets? The bedrooms?" I just shook my head. Nope, no carpet, no need for it. And now Mark looks at me all the time and says "have I told you lately how smart it was to get all solid surface flooring everywhere?" It makes me smile. So easy to clean. Best decision we made about this house.

    What an awesome looking door! My oh my are you handy with your little fingers! Love your sewing space especially having a dedicated large work table like yours! I love your graph paper idea! Unfortunately for me, when it comes to math my brain shuts down! LOL! 😱😱 This would be an easy way to do if I didn’t have brain shut down! LOL! Thanks for sharing your awesome sewing space!

    Your room looks great, Jenn! Did you paint the picture of the dog--I like it. I've used graph paper to plan my sewing room. IKEA has a room planner on its site. You just enter the room dimensions, door, etc. and add furniture, that can be from Ikea or what you already have. As you said, much easier than moving furniture around till you get it right. Enjoy your new space!

      Thanks! The dog was painted by my (extremely talented, not that I'm biased or anything) daughter Jenna. It's Indy, my boy for many years, our Lhasa Apso, now gone. I've tried the Ikea kitchen planner but never the room planner. What a great idea! I'll have to pass that along!

    I love your sewing space! I’m thrilled to have a dedicated space but it’s not arranged in a good way. I’m going to use your graph paper method!!! I think my pattern collection would fit in 2 of your bins🤣

    Jen, Just recently "found" you and LOVE your room! I'd like to know how you fold all your fabric and is it sorted by type? I have a couple of chests of drawers to store mine in, and if it's on the bottom of the drawer it often gets overlooked. Need to re-think my sewing room!!

      Thank you Kay! I wrap my fabric on foamcore and cardboard sheets from Dollar Tree, then put them in the shelves like books. It took awhile to do, but I think it's worth it since I can see everything readily. I'm glad you got some inspiration!

      On the one side it's patterns from my childhood that I've framed, using a similar fabric from which they were made as a mat. On the other side it's just a painting from Hobby Lobby, a bunch of miniature army men planning out how to move a pair of scissors to cut a cord that's plugged in! I love art with miniatures; there's an artist I follow on Instagram, Tatsuya Tanaka, who's a genius at it. Below that is a cross stitch I did a bazillion years ago, with a quote from the book of Micah: "Walk humbly with thy God."

    I store my patterns the same way. I thought I go and look through pattern books at the store and then get the envelope from the drawer, why not do the same st home. I could not believe I had not thought of that sooner.

      Same here. I'm not sure if I thought of it or saw it somewhere - I know I've seen other videos since I did my original one, but I know right? We should've thought of it sooner! 😁

    I love your room. I have been trying to fix my sewing space for awhile. I noticed you have a small table for 2 machines. Is that comfortable. I also want to put 2 machines on a table not sure how that will work out. Not sure if I should invest on a bigger table? Thank you for your help.

    • @TodayinJensSewingRoom
      @TodayinJensSewingRoom  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Ofra! I'd have a bigger table for my machines if I could fit it into the space. It's tight but it still works. I think it's nice when you have room for an extension table for your machine. I have one, but can't fit it onto the table and have my serger there too.

      Really, you didn't notice those flying around? 😂👽🥏 No really, a UFO is an unfinished object. Some project I haven't dealt with and still need to - some people call them WIP's (works in progress).
