It was two years ago when I first heard this song. I never heard it before but just at that moment, I found it so familiar with the lyrics and melodies. It was like something deep in my mind arose by this song, so familiar like a childhood memory.
The platform boots and other garish costume aside, a MAGISTERIAL performance by Elton John. Never forget the first time I heard this song on the radio. Such mesmeric joy! Undulating rhythms that will rock your world!
Holy shit there are people who think this was lip synced because the audio is off? I'll bet you also think the video is poor quality? This is 40 years old, and obviously not edited. My god, it's almost embarrassing to be part of the 'myphone' generaton.
Although, you could look at it as just a very impressive feat for older musicians. People believing that this is fake is a testament to it truly being incredible.
Yeah people forget what it was like before DvD player and we where just getting rid of the last of the remaining Beta players and moving to VHS players. Technology was no where near perfect at the time and audio/video is nothing like now. I still prefer watching shows from the 60-90s over the crap now a days. Just to me quality was better back then. now with such HD graphics it just feels too fake.
juffurey I guess you just do not understand, I prefer older shows, the quality was fine back then there was no need to change it. Nowadays shows are utter crap from what I've seen and the quality I just do not care for anymore as it all looks the same.
This is my absolute favorite rendition of this song. I've come back here time and time again since 2007 and the audio is still off... and I still don't care!

Call him gay if you want, however; people just don't make music like this anymore. This is a song where the person's voice is actually real. Today with autotune and other sound effects its hard to even know if a person's voice is real or fake.
I can't even begin to tell you how much faith I have in "today's music." No, not Bieber, Iggy Azalea, Kanye West-no, no. If you want to hear good music, stay off the radio. Great musicians are elsewhere.
Yeah I hear you ... but hear and there there's still some good stuff like postmalone wich uses a ton of autotune but not because he has a bad voice but more for the style I like that kind of autotune. And at the end it all comes down to taste.

I dont think that him being gay has anything to do with the quality of his songs. Im not gay, but that doesnt mean I cannot like his songs and vocals. Elton John, George Michael, Clay Aiken, Adam Lambert are all gay musicians that have produced some music that I like. There have been too many comments on here talking about Elton being gay and not enough talking about him being a great musician regardless of his personal life. Also, the song refers to a time when he was young in the early 1960's. You dont know when he became gay and if that is why Suzy left him since the song was recorded in 1972, about a decade later. Clearly, he was not gay when he was a young kid since he talks about having a desire for Marilyn Monroe in his song "Candle In The Wind" the original 1980's version.

Just heard this song on Sirius classic Vinyl. This song is so bittersweet now, it puts me into a momentary depression. I went to elementary school in the 70's and I remember hearing this song in grade school, a kid brought this in for a class party. Now when it plays it catches me off guard because although it's not inherently a depressing song, it's meaning has been transformed by time. It just brings back a flood of memories and I feel like time has passed forever.
+jmonkey106 Actually, you are completely right buddy! It has a delay as this was directly recorded from the tv. You know, this tends to happen even today.
I just wonder how the hell someone could actually walk wearing them. You'd have to wear them a lot to actually get used to them, and then when you switched back to normal shoes you'd be stepping weird until you got used to normal shoes again.
That's because it's an audio overdubbing, proof at 2:09. The music you hear was performed at another time and place. Not sure if the original poster replaced the live audio, or if he just didn't have it and overdubbed it himself. Either way it's a horrible job.
Its not been replaced. Open another tab, and pplay in the back ground and pause this for a second. It lines up absolutely perfectly. The 2.09 you talk of, you can't see his face at all if you do this
I don't care what he was on or who he is....he is by far one of the greatest musicians of all time!!!!!! He's not just a singer or just a performer....he is a MUSICIAN!!

Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own

we were hopping and bopping to the Crocodile Rock
Well Crocodile Rocking is something shocking
when your feet just can't keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will
Oh Lawdy mama those Friday nights
when Suzie wore her dresses tight
and the Crocodile Rocking was out of sight
But the years went by and the rock just died
Suzie went and left us for some foreign guy
Long nights crying by the record machine
dreaming of my Chevy and my old blue jeans
But they'll never kill the thrills we've got
burning up to the Crocodile Rock
Learning fast as the weeks went past
we really thought the Crocodile Rock would last

It was the first Elton John song I'd heard & I raced out & bought the album straight away .... & the rest, as they say, is history!
Now honestly this is music. Hardly any difference from an album to live! No over done auto tune. Just... proper music 🙌
One of my favourite songs ever, but is nothing like the stuff I listen to these days...a true great of music
Wonderful voice. Elton you are the best of all.

This artist is great. Too many good people like this been put aside through the years and mankind is disappointing nonetheless.
