Very good informative video, thanks for doing it for us. You are used to setting your chisel square by eye now, but a good tip for beginners may be to make a dedicated board with a chisel hole in it, and clamp it in the vise for lining up the chisel.
you prolly dont care but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch all of the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my girlfriend lately :)
I have Delta bench top model I purchased in 1996. I don't think its made anymore. I replaced the chuck with a genuine Jacobs and the belt and quill return spring had to be replaced. If I were going to get a new drill press I'd get the floor model sold by Porter Cable; they get good reviews and the price is hard to beat. The problem is I don't think anyone makes mortising attachments anymore. I believe the reason for this is twofold; the wide availability of the dedicated mortising machines and the variation in quill diameters, that made fitting attachments problematic.
@@FederalFurniture FYI It's 2024 and Grizzly does sell a drill press mortising attachment in a kit. It comes with clamps, quill adapters, various chisels and of course the attachment for holding the chisel. What I did was to go to the parts for it and only purchased the attachment. It was $40
The most educational presentation on mortises on UA-cam.
Excellent, critical information, thanks so much!
Great, meticulous instruction 👍. Thanks!
