Liquid Iron For Lawns - Another Way To Dominate
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 вер 2016
- Applying iron to the lawn is one of our lawn care secrets, but there is a way other than just Milorganite to get it! Try applying an app of liquid chelated iron for quick foliar uptake and fast green-up - think about this when you have "company" coming over or in summer when you want to stay green but no push da growth chief.
Here is a very affordable chelated liquid iron product for lawns:
amzn.to/2pJMqFe
Here's the non-ionic surfactant I'm using: amzn.to/2bMU1xm
I like it better than the soap and baby shampoo. It's cheap too... a little goes a long dang way Cletus.
Hermine didn't damage my house with wind, but the runoff (cuz I live on a hill but not at the very tippie top of that hill) caused me some issues. I didn't film it. I wasn't in the mood. Still thankful that's all we got was just a hassle

Hello,
Thank you for the post, this really works. I mixed 1 pint of this then topped it off with water in a hose sprayer. I sprayed my entire yard just enough to wet the grass blades. After 2 applications, my yard really stood out. It's beautiful dark green with that gray/blue striped look because of the Kentucky mixed in with my tall Fescue sod. Thanks again.
This was so helpful years later I'm going an app today and I appreciate the advice
I use ironite 1-0-1 granuales in spring, summer, and fall about 3 months apart and it seems to work well. Was debating on adding a chelated iron spray every couple of weeks but I'm convinced now.
I threw down Iron in July... On top of Malorganite.
My lawn is Vibrant Green! Best in the whole HOA. YES. I've Dominated the whole HOA.
All because of the sage wisdom from The LCN.
The whole hoa?
Hoa.....homeowners association
Thanks for this feedback. I'm going this route.
Fuck HOA
George Hill I hate HOAs
At first my goal this year was to get my lawn in good shape. After watching this vid my new goal is to dominate this street. Wish me luck!
You know you are a LCN when:
You turn on edge guard, right where your lawn meets your neighbors, when throwing down that Milorganite, but turn it off with the Crabgrass application because their weeds could ruin your masterpiece=TOTAL DOMINATION
that's so true!
Crabgrass only grows in bare spots, and it is an annual. If you don't have any bare spots, then you are wasting your money, and that makes you a LCM (Lawn Care Moron) that Scott's is counting on.
Crabgrass is not an annual .
Crabgrass IS in fact an annual weed in cool season climates.. It finishes its growing cycle in one year. It must germinate from seed every year.
I admit it I am wrong .It is Quackgrass that is a perennial weed . Looks the same as crabgrass but forms rhizomes underground and is a pain in the ass to dig out.
I'm coming up. Man my neighbors yards look like BMW'S and I have a pinto. I'm pumped up. Let's get it.
First!! :) I aerated fertilized limed and overseeded a week ago and getting great results so far in Illinois! Your lawn is looking great
Bro I love your videos! I get my daily dose of knowledge along with a good laugh
I'm in the process of selling my home and the realtor took pictures today to get it on the market. After they took the pictures, the realtor called my wife asking to inspect the sprinkler system for the home. She told them we didn't have one. They didn't think it was possible to have such a green yard without a sprinkler system.
I started your fall recovery program last year and my yard looks great. I owe it all to you! Thanks Lawn Care Nut!
Why would your realtor want to inspect your sprinklers?
Chris H, I'm pretty sure they would want to know whether everything is working fine before they list it.
I've been following your program for complete lawn dominance. My neighbor has been beaten. He told me yesterday that his professional gardener will be reseeding his lawn and if it doesn't look like mine he will find someone who can.
Glad to see you made it through the storm! We can never tell if something is gonna be insane or not, the weather guys have changed their minds here if we're getting the storm of the century or sun a few times now!
+Grass Daddy thanks bro. I'm ready for some sunshine for sure!
Thanks for the tips LCN. Right in the middle of touch up overseeding, right on schedule. I also noticed everything recovered nicely as soon as things cooled off here in Illinois. Lots of sheepish dudes looking at my lawn and then theirs. I started using your tips last fall and its paying off in spades. If the frost holds off, it will be a punishing Halloween trick or treat walk of shame for my neighbors.
sounds like you are dominating quite handily my brother
I seeded my lawn with bermuda at the beginning of summer and there was just a little growth. I didn't have the money available to fertilize. After I had some money come available, I found an old bag of iron that was hiding in a tote. I tossed that down right before we had a few days of rain from Hurricane Harvey...the rough stuff missed us. I also bought some 13-13-13 at Walmart and tossed that down the next week and now the grass is growing like crazy. I don't know if I should put down post-emergent with the young grass just coming in, but the weeds that were mixed in with the grass seed are getting out of hand and are hiding the young shoots. But I am so happy that the bare spots are nearly all gone now and soon there will be a full lawn. I overseeded the lawn with zoysia as well...we'll see what wins out. I don't want to have to go through the patchy lawn thing again.
Great vid! I'll be applying this coming weekend.
Just let us know when your ready Frank and we will get it to you fast and free shipping. 985-205-3449
Very nice presentation and thanks for sharing.
glad you all survived the storm!
+Big Kat thanks bro
I APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!!
This is good information, thanks!
I spike iron in my fungicide applications! Works out very well! Pro Tip!
Been dominating for years with Scott’s bonus S and Milorganite oh yea and lots of water
Thank you for this tip.
I used the heck out of Milorganite on my warm season Bermuda grass and it didn't help at all. I always supplement my lawn in between the professional service treatments for some serious green thick deep green grass (but fast-growing) using 46-0-0 Urea. You need to water it in immediately and only apply it when the night temps remain at 60 degrees or higher.
If you apply it before that temp you'll be wasting the Urea into the air. This works awesome on Bermuda so, if you have something else you might check with your local AG store. Also, that's where you can purchase the Urea for a whole lot less than anything the big box stores sell. My AG store sells Urea in 30-0-0 or 46-0-0.
I use this instead of buying that high priced Scotts fertilizer that doesn't even come close to the 46-0-0 Urea. I pay $22.00 per 50 lbs of 46-0-0. Scotts is a 32-0-10 and $40 for 42 lbs.
Scotts doesn't compare in results or value and my Urea last 2 months just like their fertilizer. Pretty easy to see who's ripping you off. Only cut the top 1/3 of the grass or you'll cut all the green out of your lawn no matter what you apply. If you want an awesome lawn, you might have to cut it twice a week so you don't cut more than a 1/3 of the grass blades.
Highly important and make sure the mower blades are sharp.
I'll let my Bermuda get almost 3" tall in the middle of the summer and it stays deep green when lack of rain hits. The neighbor's yards are turning brownish from lack of nutrients and cutting off too much off the blades of grass. It stripes better at higher lengths and I don't use a stripping kit attachment.
Remember, I have a lawn company use their slow release fertilizer and weed control as well. I just supplement my secret nitro boost of 46-0-0 Urea in between their yearly application cycle yard care plan.
Total HOA domination lawn if you take the time to really do it right.
I'm looking to spray Urea. How many lbs per gallon should I mix for 1000sq ft?
Another great vid!!!
Great content.❤
Love the music at the end of video
I hate mixing anything so I used ironite. Ironite, mid summer, less nitrogen. When spreading it I realized the scotts spreader was stuck open, so going to have dark edges for sure.
Great info, will definitely give a try. We've recouped here in Michigan from a dry/hot summer. Love the Vide Cor Meum fade out.
Kevin I am curious about growing grass in Michigan. I don't live there. When did your lawn go dormant, and when did it come out of dormancy? Does Michigan have any watering restrictions?
+MixingGBP
The dormancy began in late July and just recovered around the end of August. No current water restrictions in SE Michigan.
+Kevin Dowe Thanks.
you def should try it out bro. It's just a different way to play around with the color and once you learn how your lawn responds, you can literally dictate the peaks or green you want.
Sydney, Australia ~ Im just wondering if you guys are interested in our Buffalo grasses, primarily the "Sir Walter" and "Kings Pride". These grasses power through summer and are very drought tolerant.
Can you make a video about tenacity?
please share more before and after footage for this iron supplement
Hey Allen, what is the reason for dedicating the sprayer I use for the liquid iron for only liquid iron? Is it because of the stain, or does it leave a residual element in the sprayer that affects other chemicals it comes in contact with? Thanks.
How often do you do this to a lawn?
Hey buddy thanks for all the info !!! My lawn looks way better now!!! So April /may is not a good time for iron!?
I'm learning a lot through your videos. I live in Orlando,I already purchased the Surfactant, where can I get the other product that you're using or something like it. Thanks
awesome video
Great Advise
Thank you.
hello sir I love your videos. I have a question for ya. I'm in Michigan and this spring I plan on overseeding my lawn. So should I do that before or after my first feeding application? Thanks
LOL, Allyn, you need a team of people to answer all of the questions people ask you on this channel. It might be time to write a book with all of the questions & answers to lawn care. It would be a best seller.
that would be cool for sure!
please do a vid on dallisgrass. love your channel
do you have a seasonal document overview of when and how you treat your lawn??
see ya on the lawn buddy
hello Allen, i live in miami and i had my lawn in nice condition. When the Hurricane hit us last year, it got weak and it started growing this weard grass that is not st. Augustine grass. i have tried weed killer liquid, milargonite and grass seeds and no change. what do you suggest. My last resort is to tear out and put new sod, but will more expensive. Thanks Tomas
Love the opera! I couldn't quite make out which one it was, though.
its from the Hannibal movie
In case of someone getting stains anyways (happened to me recently as a hose ruptured and sprayed that stuff everywhere): Oxalic acid based cleaners work really well on any kind of orange/brown iron stains on stones.
Do you know some brands I can buy?
I live in St Charles, IL and want to topdress my lawn. Should I do it now or wait for spring? I've already added winterguard and overseeded a bit so I'm curious if now is the time to topdress.
Hi LCN, do you apply 4 oz/gallon of both the surfactant and the chelated iron? do you shake the sprayer to mix it in? when can I apply in New Jersey and how often can I apply? Thanks!!
I'm in southeast Mo. I had my lawn reseeded last year. This year the majority of it came up really well but some places not at all. The places that didn't produce grass has been taken over by a lot of clover. Should I just wait until fall to kill the clover or wait until next spring to treat.
Thanks
good video. shouldn't need any surfactant for iron though it can slow down folliar uptake of the plant
Hello I’m thinking about adding a lawn fertilizer program to my pest control business. What suggestions would you recommend to me?
LCN, I added an extra two Milorganite apps during July and August and it really seemed to help. Most summer before, my lawn would dry up by July. This year, it was a nice dark green all the way through. Is once a month May-June-July-Aug-Sep too much milorganite?
I have some low spots and a generally uneven yard should I just put out sand or dig up and place topsoil and sod
A Black lawn sounds cool
Hey lawncare but im removing a tree on my from lawn, I'm cutting it down all the to the root, will grass grow back after putting down some top soil and new seeds ? Please get back to me so I'm starting to plan my lawn work.
I just bought a house in Georgia. It has a good irrigation system. I have Bermuda and mixed of emerald zoysia. Question is there are some bare spots in the grass do you know what I should do to correct these bare spots before they get worse?
If it does leave a stain, is it similar to a hard water stain? I have well water and the stains it can leave are difficult to scrub off. I once had a rust stain in the shower because the shower had a slow drip and that would not come off. I had to use a rust remover. I find that the rust removers with hydroflouric acid work the fastest and easiest. You also don't have to scrub with those and please don't try to scrub with it, it is horrible stuff and you don't want ANY of it on you because it does other damage to you before you get a noticeable burn.
Would a rust remover remove that if it got on concrete? There are safer ones but they are also slower. The stuff with hydroflouric acid is nasty but almost instantly cuts through the stain on contact, just rinse well after you are done.
Where do you find the product in the video I found the Southern Ag Surfactant for Herbicides Non-Ionic on Amazon , but what about the other product Allen used? Also I'm guessing you add water to the tank as well ? Thanks for any help
Are there any negatives associated with doing iron applications weekly in the summer?
Can you use an ortho sprayer for this?
Allen, I love those jumbo size Snickers! Anyway, can I get your take on the Bonide Garden Liquid Iron with the following micronutrients... thanks:
hello, in oz howm much chelated liquid iron i need to put per gallon, And the same for surfactant for herbicides?? thank you.
Love music…Kingdom of heaven
Good video, I gave it thumps up. However, I totally disagree with not feeding the lawn during the summer months. A 1/3 to a 1/2 of nitrogen will make a more competitive lawn during the summer months. It will aid the lawn against Summer Patch fungus and other summer diseases that attack cool season grasses during the summer.
I have a question for you LCN. I live in central NC and just recently reseeded my fescue lawn on Sept 17. When I reseeded I applied Scotts Turfbuilder fertilizer. I have just recently discovered milorganite. I want to make the switch and start using this product instead. I saw on some sites that you don't need to worry about burning your yard with this product. How long do I need to wait to start using milorganite? The yard has always been green but not a dark vibrant green. Thanks in advance
You need to do a PODCAST!!!!!
Does sun and shade grass seeds actually work? My fescue has no shaded areas and has really suffered, proper watering is partially the issue, but it's also in the scorching sun.
I have some liquid iron that is 6% iron and 4% sulfur, is this ok to apply for my lawn?
i have a brown powder fertilizer that stans red when mixed with water. is this iron and dose it affect hands if you don't use gloves.
plz i need respond.
thank you.
If I applied just before it rained does it wash away? Should I reapply?
I have done nothing to my lawn this year. It's still really hot & we've had no rain here for a long here in Atlanta area . When do I start & what do I do first?
Mr. LCN, I live in Florida and I want a kick ass lawn. I don't know what kind of grass I have but it's thick and in pretty good shape. Where should a noob like me start?
is now the right time to add milorganite in Illinois
sure it's a good time right now
I'm going to use a hose sprayer to apply chelated Iron. Any setting advice?
I applied post emergent too late, been cutting to short. I am not dominating. Also, Try cannon rod holders instead of scotty.
did you mix the surfactant with the chelated iron?
How much surfactant should I mix into the iron? it's for a 2 gal hand sprayer. And do I dilute the iron with water to make more volume within the sprayer? It's for a half acre lawn
I sprayed my lawn wioth liquid iron the day before and forgot to turn my sprinklers off. Do I need to hit it again with iron, or will it be ok? Thank you and god BLESS
I purchased southern ag that you listed in the description but it doesn't say how much water to mix with? do I spray straight with no water and then water after? or mix so many oz per gallon?
What's your preferred iron source now? MicroGreen?
Whatime of the year do you put this on your lawn spri g summer or in the fall ????
Liquid iron doesn't seem to be readily available in my area but I found some moss killer with 18.6% ferrous sulphate. The first app back in early spring was underwhelming so I'm giving it another shot. Have you ever tried this?
will milorganite help green up new grass patches that have a light green hue to them? the lawn looks camo and want it. to be uniform
I have pretty much an acre of land and most of its just dirt. even my 2 big trees the roots are just 3 inches from the top of dirt. It's April in Michigan can I still do the Iron then fertilizer then seed??? can I do all in same day?? I'm alone and just want a nice lawn.
Jackie C. T C, MI.
THROW ER DOWN
Great vids Allyn, very entertaining and informational!
Quick question, any suggestions on fall fertilizing for transition zone? I'm in Hilton Head with centipede grass, moved in almost 2 months ago and have battled super gnarly ignored lawn with insects, thatch, nuts and crabs.. I've been researching your vid's and on one of the restoration videos you suggested STARTA FERT FIX EVERYTING. I am debating whether to apply Scott's starter of 24-25-4 for root growth in early October or Scotts winterguard 32-0-10 and save the starter fert for next spring?
Thanks!
interesting, I do the digital marketing for the New River Auto Mall not far from you. Lots of Centipede lawns there for sure. If you are just looking for a nice greenup and good growth, just hit it with full strength Milorganite now, again in early October, and again in late November.
Allyn, thank you for your response! Not too far for sure, Milorganite would be the better route for rehabbing the lawn over the Scott's? Many brown spots possibly from insects and disease, it's incredible the new leafelettes I've seen just from raking it up a bit and two weeks of watering and an application of ACE hardware weed n feed a month ago. Think I may have beginner-itis from the marketing on the bag in thinking the Scott's is better , when Milo may do the trick ! Thank you.
So I put too much and got a lil black hue In some spots. Will those go away or did I kill it? It was used on Bermuda hybrid
Where can we get whats in the large container? I notice you heave a link for the smaller one? What is the difference between the two?
Best fishing with shrimp moving current and beach area or like dock structure down there
+Adam Calnan I got skunked today. Overcast and choppy. No bueno.
Hello. Not sure if you can help. I purchased Pennington liquid Ironite with the hose end sprayer. It keeps clogging so I purchased an ortho dial hose end sprayer but I don’t know what setting on the dial do I use to spread the Ironite. Any help would be appreciated.
I used Lawnstar two weeks ago at the low recommended rate and I did not notice any difference, I think it was the 4 oz rate, Will it be safe to try the 8oz rate next and when can I do it
I am taking from this video you are applying this product to fescue or Poa Annua. It would be helpful if you disclosed this information in the beginning due to many people in the south have warm season turfs which receive fertilization in the summer months.
Clyde Baisey in the same boat here.
If I'm not mistaken he has St Augustine and one other very common warm season grass.
you actually got a thumb's down, can only wonder why a lot good info here.👍
dip your head in some of that iron for Halloween.
Haters gave him the thumbs down...
That's why I give him 2 thumbs up 👍🏽👍🏽
I'm treating my lawn with Tenacity and over seeding. It's May, when can I do Iron treatment?
quick question how many ounces to apply in a 5 gallon pump found chelated 5p iron
“Dominate ‘‘em with your double fats and dark green grass too, baby.”
You dig it the most!
Can I apply an iron supplement like this to tall fescue that germinated 3 weeks ago or is that too soon? I also got my stickers today and I put them on my Earthway as soon as I could ha ha!
How long does one application of liquid iron last? How many times to apply it thru the cutting season? I live in Dallas Texas.
JiggyFly I wished he would have shed some light, I live in Dallas Tx too.
Elo Lopez 7 ish days, says in the video
Nice choice....a little Vide cor meum to close out the video. Makes me think of Hannibal.
budhrseh2001 Thats what LCN listens to when scouting other neighbors lawns.. "Bowels in, or bowels out.... oh, you're confused.. I'll choose for you." Throws down a truckload of Milorganite..
If nitrogen (even slow release) pushes growth and you don't want that in the hot summer but you do want iron (to green the lawn more) why do you recommend Milorganite which has nitrogen instead of Ironite which is just iron?
I'm speaking for St. Augustine grass. If you hit it with high nitrogen fertilizer every 2 to 3 months with a good watering and an iron infusion in those time periods, you'll be walking on a 4 inch thick lawn sized doormat. Kentucky bluegrass is a TOTALLY different animal, but St. Augustine is pretty vibrant in southern environments.
What kind of nitrogen, what brand? From south Texas, area is super hot 100°F everyday, no rain at all, lot of drought.
