Super helpful review. Very well organized and very clear and objective points. I am a huge Eldritch horror and Marvel fan. It sounds like the gameplay is still very good. So I can deal with sub optimal instructions. Thanks again
I am a huge Eldritch Horror fan and even my girls like it. We finally got the last expansion just a few months ago. The problem is getting it to the table with the extended playtime. Thankfully set up isn't too crazy because of how I've organized it, though I really want the Broken Token crate if I can ever find the funds to buy it. I had heard rumblings that this game was based off of EH and your title alone got me excited. My hope had been that it would be EH in less time but your review made it very clear that is not the case. Still interested in playing/buying this but only if I get it on a killer sale or one of my gaming friends pick it up. I understand profit margins and licensing is a bear in the board game industry but it doesn't make the cost any easier to swallow. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the review; your comments tipped me off the fence to the buying side. My group (sometimes consisting of just the wife and me) are Marvel fans and love coop. Some of the negatives are disappointing, but it checks all of the necessary positive checkboxes for us.
normally a blurb and the marvel theme can get me to pre-order something if it sounds interesting, not just because I'm a Marvel fan, but also because other people are so easier to get them to try if it is an IP they already are interested in. but the pricepoint stopped me on this one because there wasn't enough images or description for me to really know if I should get it... I may give it a shot now.

I understand your complaints about the game length. And lots of reviewers say to make shorter games. Maybe they have too many games to review and want them shorter. I want and like long games. I game with folks that like long games as well. There's plenty of short ones, and I don't think we need to say "Make it shorter". Gimme the big game I say! Make it Epic - it's a comic book superhero theme after all! It also means the cost is a little more justified as is the setup time. You get 3 hours every play? Then I don't mind a little setup (make the players help), And as for cost, there's nothing I hate more than $70 and fancy minis and all that and the game is over in like 45 mins. (meaning, there's not a lot of point in all the minis and other things you paid for. )
I am not an Eldritch Horror fan, but I held out hope that I would enjoy this one with the Marvel skin on it. I am thinking that after watching your review, I have better places to spend my money. Thanks, Luke!
I was shocked when you said 3-4 hours playtime!! 😮 Based on the look, weight, and style of game I was expecting 1-1.5 hrs... Absolute fail, how does this appeal to new gamers or families with that time length?
Most campaign games aren’t 1-1.5 hrs long. Most are anywhere from 2-4 for one game. This was clearly a campaign game from the start. Fantasy flight games already has tons of marvel games that don’t take as long as this game. Those games might be more for you. I don’t think it’s a bad thing that this game is this long. As someone who love’s campaign games I’m happy it’s this long.

Yes, very true. I love it because it works for the whole family, youngsters enjoy it. You can get a whole game in 20 minutes, and if you lose, oh well, play again.

What do you mean alternate personas? Elektra isnt Daredevils alternate. Nor is shehulk. You mention multiversal but all of these characters have and do exist in the marvel universe at the same time.... At the price tag I have to compare this to just a base pledge of marvel united.... In which this then lacks the same variety and coop feeling. Alao having played this game with a reviewer, i think its much swingier than marvel united or champions.
100% true on Marvel IP, I was thinking also about Sentinels and how hard could it be to go with SotM IP and slap it instead of Marvel. I’m sure it’ cheaper, and SotM heroes have their special flavor.
I am curious: if not for Marvel license, would a lot of people care about a game about noname superheroes? Even if it were cheaper? I doubt it, Marvel is THE selling point, no? For me, Marvel is a turnoff. It's just super boring, like train games for you. Otherwise I'd play Champions, which is a decent LCG otherwise.
sadly as far as superheroes go, for me it's Marvel or nothing. if it's original characters, boardgame is usually a horrible medium to flesh out characters and they all look as bootleg X. not that Marvel is a selling point for me, it's others which are a turn-off.
@@kombainasable Yeah, I get it. I saw Inifinity saga before, so familiar with at least half of the cast in MCU interpretation. If we take original chars, they'll be blank slates.

Fantasy Flight just doesn't care about making short games and it's killed a couple of their "re-releases" for that very reason.
