  • Years ago, in the latter stages of art college, I set about my ‘chair in a field’ project, which at that time, was more innovative than my previous works. Photography was a new medium for me, and like Bresson, I chose to take as many photographs as possible with B&W 35mm rolls, which left me with several photographs to work with. My friend Matthew agreed to be in the shoot and to use the fields behind his house for the location. The concept involved a sequence of images connected by a horizon line, with a figure climbing a chair and then leaping off it, bursting with energy. I envisioned this sequence evolving into a silent black and white film akin to Steve McQueen's 'Deadpan', where McQueen reenacts Buster Keaton's iconic 'Steamboat Bill Jr' stunt. The gag is repeated, creating a suspenseful loop as the wall collapses repeatedly. Advancing towards filmmaking, I created a zoetrope on a turntable, embedding the images within it.
I feel grateful that I’m finally able to realise the vision I initially had. The accompanying guitar piece I wrote steadily over the past month. I relate this work to Camus' ‘The Myth of Sisyphus’.

Very creative, never seen anything like the metaphor of the chair and the what seems indicative of walking on air, which the magic of this music evokes. The finger picking is superior, and the ethereal composition! Thanks for sharing such talent!
