Isn't sewing and embroidery fun? You can express yourself artistically, watch your creations grow to completion, make great gifts for people that you really put your heart into, and just have lots of fun in the process.
I've been sewing and embroidering for about 6 months now. I learned EVERYTHING I know on UA-cam. People like you who take the time from their day to create and post a tutorial video which will help thousands of people.
Thank you. I hope you continue to make these great videos.
Thank you so much for these tutorials. I got my machine as a hand me down and have no manual. This has been a life saver.
Just got my SE400 as well as a new MacBook Air - so your channel is perfect for me! So excited to get started! Today I downloaded a Tinkerbell design and your tutorial was great! Thank you!
Thank you, and as long as we feel we have something to offer, we will continue to make our videos. Yes the creative possibilities with embroidery and sewing are endless! Enjoy!
Thank you for these fantastic and simple tutorials!! Perfect for what I needed.
Thank you for your quick response!
thank you this was extremely helpful
I just got my daughter that machine... so thanks for the tutorial video!
Thank you for your prompt response.
12 years later with the machine and I just thought I could embroider in it. But I don't know where are the accessories 🤦🏻♀️. Thank you for these videos.
Thank you so much! These videos have helped me set up my machine mostly frustration free!
you tube is wonderful
Looking forward to seeing your creations.
Ok, thank you so much for your help.
Great vid! Just bought a brother v5 and trying to learn all I can about importing embroidery designs. I have a Mac computer so very interested in how you have succeeded in utilising yours. I shall look up the embrilliance software. Have subbed so looking forward to your further blogs
Thanks!
VERY GOOD
thank you
Thank you! I have bought this machine and been WAY FRUSTRATED.... I am hoping this helps me get on the right track. I have espicially had trouble with the bobbin thread coming through on the top side. I have also strubbled with the design bunching up while I sew. I thought maybe it was my material but tried lots of different types. I am hoping it was because I was using the wrong presser foot. Thanks again for the tips/hints... Keep them coming!! :)
Hi love the video. . Do you have to connect ur computer just tobuse the machine for the patterns already in the machine?
Get very basic for me, please. When placing your project in the hoop which side of the fabric faces up?
i still don't know how to get my pc to hook up to my machine but i really didn't try i was think if i plug in the cord it would work but i see it is more to it then that. so what do i need to do???
I have not embroidered on a polo shirt but I would suggest using a light weight cut away stabilizer, mark where you want your design to be on the shirt, then hoop the shirt with your stabilizer and sew your design. You may want to do a test run a scrap of fabric first, so you know how the design stiches out regarding placement. Thanks for visiting TLC Inspirations UA-cam Channel. :)
I have not attempted this yet, but if and when I do, I will certainly share it here on our channel. :)
hi, if you using multiple colors wich color should we use for the bobbin?
I'm don't know much about that machine, but I don't believe that it has a USB port to connect to a computer, so you would not be able to connect the way I did in the video. You would have to get your designs from your Embroidery media card. Thanks for your comment and for visiting our UA-cam Channel.
How do you get the image from the em brilliance program on the Mac to your brother machine?
I would of liked to seen the largest setting for the Butterfly to see how big they actually will be???? thank you for your TUT!!
Thank you so much that really does help...I was worried I needed a memory card I would prefer to use the USB feature as you do. Where do you usually get your designs from? I haven't really found any designs so far.
Your tutorial is excellent. I appreciate how you explained it step by step, but I'm confused about the cables from your laptop to the machine. I'm using the Brother PE770 and I didn't find a cable other than the plug to turn the machine on. It comes with the USB slot for a flash drive, so how do I transfer the design like you did? HELP!!! I'm totally frustrated.
Thank you for the video, it was very helpful. I just got the Brother SE400 for Christmas and have a question. When doing a multiple color design, should the bobbin thread be changed each time the top thread is changed (so they match)? Thank you
I have this machine and I think it is really cool. Will you please do a video on embroidery with an appliqué ?
Thank you so much for the response. Did you have to purchase the needles separately or are they the ones that came with the machine?
Hello, thank you so much for taking your time and sharing. I just got the LB6800 which is the same as the SE400 and every time I attempt to use the embroider, it keeps breaking the needle. Any suggestions? Should I be using a certain type o needle? I was using the ones that came with the machine
Well you can use a larger hoop and connect 4x4 designs such as borders, lettering etc. but the larger hoop will not expand the designated embroidery area (4x4), and you need to align and match up each design using your arrow keys on the machine. Apparently it is not easy, but it can be done. Thanks for your comment and visiting our UA-cam Channel.
Love your tutorials! Had one quick question! Can the SE-400 take a bigger hoop than a 4x4? If I purchase a 5x7 hoop will the machine let you adjust to someting larger than 4 inches? Or even transfer patterns from a digitizing sofware?
Thanks for the video. I wanted to know when connecting the machine to the computer. What kind of computer do I need to have? A Mac or a regular computer/ laptop. And also does the 400 come with the software with the Xtra embroidery prints
I enjoyed your video. I recently purchased the Brother SE400, but have problems with embroidering. The embroidery thread keeps fuzzing up and messes up the design. Do you know what would cause this? I have tried different stabilizers and embroidery thread and I have the correct needle as well. Do you know the what tension it needs to be set on?
Love your tutorials! Just got this machine for Christmas. Questions: should the automatic threader thread the embroidery foot?
+Lisa Schnurr Yes, it works the same with embroidery foot.
emblibrary and myembroideries (with .com after each) are two sites where I've found lovely designs
I have a question do you think you will do a video on embroider on large hoop for the brother SE 400 I have the brother SE 350 6.8 x 4 hoop I Will like to learn how to set it up in the hoop and the learn how or when I have to change postion of the hoop.
I have not tried a larger hoop on my Brother SE 400, and I don't have a larger hoop so at this time I don't have any immediate plans for a video on this subject. You sewing machine manual might be a helpful resource if the machine has the capability of design placement or alignment. Thanks for visiting our Channel.
Thank you so much for the video! I am strongly considering purchasing one as my first sewing machine. (Pity that it cannot perform cutaway work!) Anyway, I was wondering if you could help me get an insight as to it's potential? Why I am asking is because I have heard that it is only capable of embroidering a space between 4x4-inches. Is there a work around, should I want to do a large project--say the chest area of between the back shoulder blades of a shirt using software?
Can you increase the speed of the machine ? I have worked on Pantograms 15 needles machine. It is super fast. SE400 machine feels slow.
Great video.
I am giving this machine to my daughter, who has taken an interest in sewing, now that she is going to be a grandmother:) She lives in another town, so this will prove to be invaluable to her. It is actually a 950D, but looks like it's the same?? Thank you sew much.
No. The Brother SE 400 will only allow for 4" embroidery space, and a bigger hoop will not change that. Thanks for you comment, and visiting us. :)
Am I able to upload a jpg into the embrodering software and it will work? Thinking about buying one of these to do my logos on polos for and need to make sure I can upload my logo.
I use the cable that came with the machine. It is USB on the computer end. Once it is connected a Disk Icon appears on my computer (that is the machine) Then I can open that and add my designs. Hope this helps. :D
Can you use fleece on this machine? Thanks.
I have a Mac like you. I'm just copying everything you do for ease! LOL! I just downloaded embrillance essentials today and I used the font that was there. Did I need to download a second thing?
Thank you for this video; but you did not clarify where the designs came from. I have a mac as well but I am unclear on where the design comes from. Thank you for your help. God bless!
Either a PC or a Mac, although you will need Mac specific embroidery software if you have a Mac. I use Embrilliance Embroidery Software, which works with PC and Mac, you can find the links in our video descriptions, or on our Channel Page, or website. Thanks for visiting TLC Inspirations.
great tutorial. I have a Brother PE500. Just got it and I'm wondering how do you tell the machine which parts of the design get a specific color? For instance, If you were to embroider that girl you did, how would I make her hair brown? I know you have to switch out thread but how do you tell the machine where and when you want to do so? Thanks.
Some designs will automatically stop at certain points to change colors if they have several colors, but if they are created with one color, that's how they will stitch out. You can't tell the machine where to break designs to stitch in different colors....it needs to be in the digitized design.
I have not personally tried to sew leather with the Brother SE 400 so I don't know how well it would do with leather. I guess it would depend on the thickness and the needle used. Sorry I can't be more help. Thanks for visiting us.
The machine will stop when there is a color change, then you remove your hoop, change upper and lower thread, then resume stitching. You can use the default colors of your design or use other colors you prefer. I also have Embrilliance Software which has a stitch simulator so I can actually see how the design stitches out, and also change colors within the software program. You can find links for Embrilliance in our video descriptions or on our website posted on our UA-cam Channel.
What kind of cable do you use with your Mac to the computer USB to USB?How do you see your machine in the Mac?
Do you have any tutorials on here or on your blog on using embrilliance? I just got a brother pe500 and I have a mac laptop. Totally frustrated with trying to find good embroidery software thats user friendly especially for a newbie.
Just got this machine and new to the embroidery thing. Wanted to know is the the only size hoop I can use for this machine?
Yes, the Brother SE 400 has 4x4 hoop size.
Hi does the machine sew on leather as well. Oh and thankyou for your videoes, their very helpful!!
Hi, love your video. Very clear. I haven't mess with my SE400 yet because I'm intimidated. You mention digitizing, is there a online company you recommend ? I have a logo I like to embroider on my machine but I don't haven any software program.
hello there. i have a question? can i know the setting of your upper thread? cuz i tried embroidering and my lower thread are mostly showing than the upper thread. my tension is 4
thanks
Mine is usually between 3 and 4. Sometimes it just takes a little experimenting until it's right.
I just bought an HE1, which from what I can find is the same as the SE400, but without the sewing maching function. I'm try to change the display units on my machine (from CM to Inches). Mine is set on CM and I see yours is Inches...how do I get there?
I have never had that happen, so I don't know. You can send a help ticket to Embrilliance and they may be able to help. Do you have a Mac Computer of PC? Are you using Embrilliance Fonts?
That's odd, because I went in there a created a design like the one you are trying to do, and when I didn't do the select all and then group, I got the same results that you are getting...a blank page. Well, I hope things work out for you, sorry I couldn't find the problem.
Hi, was trying to buy this machine dose or allow to ad your own designs from your computer to the machine
I just recently purchased the Brother SE400 and I would like to know what memory card I should purchase from what I hear with all designs and fonts that come on the machine there is no room to add any other fonts or designs. Do you have any suggestions? I'm new to the embroidery machines, I used to do it by hand, so if you have any other suggestions you think I should know about please let me know.
How do you know what color to change too?
No. A jpg has not been digitized. You would need digitizing software, or you would need to have your logo digitized by someone that offers digitzizing. I hope this answers your question. Thanks for visiting our UA-cam Channel.
how do you get what you want in a certain area on the fabric
When I do the embroidery, my top thread is red, and the bobbin thread is white, my font is coming out white with a little of the red thread mixed in. any suggestions? I tried changing the tension and it doesn't do anything
+Diane Garry It definitely sounds like a tension issue, or top thread isn't threaded properly. My tension is usually set between 3 and 4. I would try rethreading the top thread, and making sure your bobbin is correctly inserted. That's all the suggestions I have to offer. Good luck :)
My thread keeps breaking throughout embroidery and it doesn't tell me right away. I've been watching it and I can't figure out why it's breaking but it's leaving holes in my designs. Any idea of what would help? Maybe bad thread?
I can't give you an exact cause for your thread breaking since there are so many contributing factors. Are you using a good quality embroidery thread? Poly is stronger than others. Maybe you are not using the right needle size with the right thread weight. Maybe the design is too dense for the thread weight. Your thread may be hanging up somewhere, or the thread may be shredding at the needle point. Tension is another setting to check. It often just takes a lot of trouble shooting to discover what is causing the problem. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help.
I have had this machine for a few weeks. I did a couple that worked out fine and with two designs the thread bunched up underneath and this last time the needle broke also HELP!!! Hope that made since?
I really don't know what is causing that issue. I can only suggest that you make sure your material is hooped properly, that you have your embroidery foot attached, and double check your threading of the machine. Sometimes just rethreading works! Keep in mind that some designs out there may be inferior and don't stitch well. I hope this helps a little.
Thank you, it's a design from the machine. I'll keep checking things.
So, with this sewing machine can you load all the colors of thread into it that you're gonna be using for the project or do you just have to re-thread the needle for each color change? I'm new to sewing and embroidery so, this may be a silly question.
+terradan2013 This machine requires thread changes. As far as I know most sewing/embroidery combo machines require thread changes. I am not familiar with embroidery only machines.
+tlcinspirations
Thanks!
Thank you for the tutorial. I'm curious how you got the included DVD to work on your mac. Mine didn't and when I contact d Brother I was told it only works with windows. Thanks
I didn't use the brother set up DVD. I have a Mac computer, and I use Embrilliance Embroidery Software (link is provided in our video descriptions)
Knots & Kneedles Thank you for taking the time to reply.
Does the machine prompt you to change colors? How does that work?
yes it does
Which embrilliance software are you using? Essentials or thumbnails? Does the program have images or just fonts?
Also, can you explain what the embroidery card slot is used for? What card goes in there? What are embroidery cards and where do you obtain them?
Thank you so so much for your videos. I want to understand all my manuals, cds, etc before starting to use my SE400.
I started with Essentials, and later added Enthusiast and Stitch Artist. I have never used the card slot, since I load designs directly from my computer. The card is just another way to access access, load or save designs. The program does not have images...just some basics to use with your designs.
What do you mean by "I load designs directly from my computer." Do you mean via the internet? Which website? Are they expensive?
i'm tried to do a small polo type of design on a polo shirt but all of my work doesn't looks clean. but when i try it on a harder fabric like chef's shirt, it come out fine. do you thing my stabilizer is not collect? i used tear away stabilizer with and without the sticky spray. any tip on how should i work with a polo shirt and with a small design?
Personally, I have never embroidered on a shirt or polo shirt, but since the fabric on a polo shirt is generally light weight I would suggest a self adhesive stabilizer
to keep it from moving around during stitching. As far as the stabilizer being a tear away or cut away, I'm not sure which would be better. Tear aways can stretch your fabric when pulling it off your design. With a cut away you want to use a softer stabilizer because a portion of it will be left on the fabric against your skin. I hope this helps. You can also search the internet for "How to embroider on a Polo Shirt" but beware there are varying opinions. :)
(in reply to citymad86) When you work on very stretchy materials such as knits, you must also use a topping stabilizer such as Solvy water soluble film as well as the tear away underneath. The film creates a slick surface on top, and doesn't allow the knit to move around as it is being embroidered. Once you are finished with the design, you can pull off the stabilizers, and I use a q-tip to dissolve the bits and pieces. This is how you also do terry cloth towels, to keep the loops from invading your embroidery.
If your original design was digitized with more than one color, that's how the machine will stitch it out. The machine pauses for each thread change, so you can rethread with the next color. I hope this answered your question.
Does the software you use good for both Mac and Windows?
Why there's no brother embroidery machine in Qatar??
Ok, I think I have it figured out! When you group your design with your letters, I didn't see you go to the top Embrilliance menu, "Select All" then, select "Group." So you weren't actually saving the file as a grouped design.
You must "Select ALL" before you "Group" then save working and stitch file, and you should be good to go. BTW: The .be file is the working file, if you wanted to edit the design at a later time, you would use that to ungroup, add something, etc, then save both files.
No you don't nee to download anything else. Make sure your design fits within the 4x4 hoop. If you can see the design in your computer files, you should be able to drag and drop into the machine. Be sure you are saving a stitch file and not just the working file. I hope this helps and you can get it working. :D
what is the name of the sites that you download your design too, maybe i am not spelling it collect. thanks
Wini Miller Most of the designs that I use come from emblibrary (.com) I can't put links in my replies.
I didn't know i can use a Mac to download the images to import to my machine. So once i download from the website i can just transfer them to my machine?
+Lizz C. Yes. The machine is connected via usb, so you can drag and drop a design into the machine on the computer once your machine is connected to the computer. There is not adequate storage in the sewing machine to store files on the machine. But it's nice to have the drag and drop feature of the Mac computer.
+tlcinspirations wow that's awesome all his time I thought I couldn't use my Mac with my machine. So I just download the image to my computer and once I connect it I can drag it to the machines port? If so it's very simple! Thank you so much for sharing 😊
+Lizz C. Once you are connected and drag your design to the machine, then on your machine screen select the computer connection icon, then select the design (it will show on the machine screen) then select the download button, and you are ready to go. Good Luck!
Thanks for the tutorials but what does it mean when the design created in embrilllance won't display on the machine? Please help. I create the design and save it then drag n drop to the machine but it does not display and I cannot stitch at that point..
For some reason when I'm embroidering my bobbin thread seems to stitch instead of my thread. How do infix this? Do I leave the bobbin thread inside of pull it out?
+ABE CASH You should always pull your bobbin thread to the top. But I don't think that would cause the issue you are having. I would check to make sure your upper thread is threaded properly.
+tlcinspirations thank you!
I'm new at this... I purchase embrillance per your recommendation and I've created a simple design with just words. When I try to download it onto the machine nothing is showing up. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I have a Brother SE400 and I have it saved as a pes file. It shows up blank on the computer - whereas I see that we can see your fun happy girl right from that spot. Help!
Can you tell me how to embroider a logo on a polo shirt with this machine?
How can I get my tension right, while embroidering? My designs always look choppy, like the threads have different tensions. I keep my machine at 4.5.
I usually have my tension between 3 and 4. Do all your designs look choppy? If not, maybe it's the design itself, as some designs are not good quality. If all of them are coming out choppy, all I can advise is to make sure you are using a good threads, and that your bobbin is correctly threaded. I have never had that happen, so I have any other suggestion. I hope you can get it figured out. :)
It's probably the thread because all of the designs and letters look bad. I'm going to go with a different brand of thread! :) Thank you!
Hello I was given brother pe 500 but I can't figure out how to download design. I also have a Mac but it doesn't want to download. Please help
does the machine do it all by itself automatically? and does the machine have a foot pedal ?
After loading the design to the machine, and attaching the embroidery apparatus and embroidery foot, the machine will stitch out the design you loaded, or any of the preloaded designs on the machine. Embroidery software compatible with the machine and your computer can be used to customize designs. I have a Mac computer, so I use Embrilliance Embroidery Software. You will find the link in our Machine Embroidery Video descriptions or we have an Embrilliance page on our website, TlcInspirations (.com)
Is this machine good for pictures . I want to make tutus with shirts and on the shirts I would have things such as Mickey mouse or whatever. . Could I simply find a picture off of Google import it to the machine? And if so how do I embroid larger images then 4×4?
No, you would need to have it digitized, or have a software for digitizing. Digitizing has extensive learning curve. Also, images such as Mickey Mouse are copyrighted, so I would be sure you check into image permissions and licensing before using images found on the internet.
How can I do a design with more than 1 color? how many colors can I use in 1 design?
Can you create your own personalized logo to embroider on the se400? Like a customized logo you made yourself
Designs need to be digitized, so you can't create a design from a drawing, but you can use a software program, and merge existing embroidery designs, fonts, and symbols to customize a design. I use Embrilliance Software for merging design files, and customizing. It's not a digitizing software, but it does allow for customizing existing designs. You can find the link on our Channel page under the description or on our website. Digitizing is apparently a very involved process, with extensive learning curve.
You can import a picture into SofieSew and trace it. That is the only way to customize logo. I did it for my logo and many other branding elements
Can you use different size hoop ?
The embroidery area on the Brother SE 400 is only 4 inches, and using a larger hoop does not enlarge the sewing area.
Hmmm... still not working. I'll contact embrillance on Monday! Thanks for your ideas!
Is it possible to embroider a monogram on a baseball cap with this?
It can be done, but I have never attempted it. You can do either a google or youtube search for "embroider on baseball cap" and there will be a few instructional videos you can check out.
I have several 5×7 designs. Will this machine embroider that size?
YOLOBeachAdventures No, it will only embroider 4x4 area, even if you use a bigger hoop, the embroidery/sewing area is limited to 4x4.
YOLOBeachAdventures Also, that being said, some designs can be resized, depending on the density of the design. It's sort of a trial and error, as some design will adjust to being resized, and others don't do well. On the other hand, a software program, such as Embrilliance (links in our video descriptions or our website) can resize designs without the distortion that the machine may create.
Which level of Brilliance software do you use
I did this video several years ago, but I believe I had basic Essentials, and possibly Enthusiast level. Those two give you substantial tools to work with, on your projects. Stitch Artist is much more advanced, and gets into digitizing designs. Our Essentials link is our video description. Thanks for visiting.
How do you embroider a Monogram, say, in the corner of a dinner napkin?
Donna Soper I have never done a monogram on the corner of a napkin or handkerchief, so unfortunately I can't help you. Maybe someone else will see your question, and have some ideas.
***** can this machine sew more than one color in one go, like say you have a design with more than one color in it. How does the machine handle and/or deal with a multi color design.
No. You need to change out the threads for each color change. It is a basic entry level embroidery sewing machine.
can you Embroid 2 color in the same design?
The machine will stop for color changes in the design, so you can change the thread.
Can I use this machine without using a computer?
Yes. The computer is used to transfer your embroidery designs to the machine. Or you can use SD Memory Card.
