I'm from the northeast area of the US. "Homely" means ugly. When a room is cozy, we say it's "homey." Can't wait to see your renovations. You two are awesome!
Also thinking the same, as I was raised in Northern Virginia (we don't associate much with Southern Virginia). Currently, I live now in the Midwest, but they often treat me like I'm not in their "club" lol.
You two have nailed the perfect combination of charm and high production quality. What a lot work, but it's so vital to preserve this history and I admire your passion. Can't wait for more videos!
Firstly, I’m obsessed with aunt Caroline. They don’t make British women like that anymore. Eccentrically warm and natural funny with a dry sense of humour. Obviously the public part of the house you want/need to keep historic and antique but as your a young couple what is the style our going for in the private side of the manor? Love a show about that. Also you need to do an evening ghost hunt 😄
American fan of Poldark, and period pieces in general. I just discovered your channel. It’s brilliant! You two are fun to watch and the property is amazing. Looking forward to more videos. Cheers.
Awesome post. You two seem to have endless energy, which of course you will need for this massive restoration project. At some point we would like to see some of the lands. It sounds like a significant estate. All the best. Looking forward to your next post. Cheers!
What a beautiful home! I would love to see a video on the Organ, if possible. It's wonderful how people like you two are taking on the responsibility of restoring this home. Good luck!
I am from the south in the states and I get a giggle each time you say " make it more homely " Here ,in the south , Homely means ugly 😂😂😂. My dad would say something to the affect of " she's a good woman but she's sure homely " sorry ,I had to say it .
There you are Hank, lord of the manor. Still funny as ever (dirty magazine 😂 indeed ). Miss your GCN cycling videos on UA-cam and cheeky sense of humour, always made me smile. Looking forward to follow the restoration of the manor and learning the history.
For your GCN crowd, you should do a Airbnb room. I was a general contractor for 25 years. I’d be happy to stay and work for my bed for a short while lol
Love your channel!💕 I will be here every Friday watching how you update your house! My house is from the 1800’s so I need some inspiration! Thanks for sharing your renovations with us!
I used to live in the Costwolds Witney was my hometown, I went to school in Burford and worked in Stratford-Up-On-Avon. This is such a joy for me to watch I now live in Florida but the Costwolds will always be home. I look forward to seeing your journey.
This place needs a lot of cleaning everywhere. But, I know you two can bring it up to date. To me the ballroom is too 70’s. I would change it all for weddings.
The Ballroom is lovely, but selling 5,000 acres to fund it's building doesn't seem like an equitable trade. It is so wonderful for you guys to share this historic treasure. I would love to know your goals / principles associated with the renovation/restoration : are you going to keep all of the furnishings period correct? furniture restoration where possible? BTW what's the hitch date? Congrats and best wishes for a long life together.
This is amazing. You could advertise volunteers to help you clear out. Oh my word how fun would it be to come in and help for de-cluttering / cleaning / general assistance!!!! You could even consider work experience groups !!!!! ❤
*Awesome video of the tour & history lessons.... have fun when you do start the restoration of each & every room. It will take time and lots of $$$, but slowly & surely you will get there even if it will take years... but I am here to watch you both doing it together 🙂nz*
What a wonderful house. It's going to look great once sorted out. I don't envy you having to generate the ££££ for the restoration, but it'll be stunning once completed. Excellent videos because "real people " not media professionals are introducing them. I look forward to future videos, Cheers from Christchurch NZ.
Aww, a first dance in that beautiful room ❤❤ You two are so lovely. Great video and tour, fascinating insight. I’ve never thought about how a sprung floor is sprung.. a bit different from modern gyms I guess! One day I’ll come on a tour, it looks amazing 🤩
Such an interesting contrast in language. In American English “homely” means ugly, whereas “homey” has the meaning of homelike and cozy that is meant here.
I am a construction cost estimator in "The States" and am a GCN subscriber and paying member - whatever the current monthly paying membership situation calls itself - I LOVE GCN!!!.. Totally loving the parallel universe of James/"Jimmy"/Hank's & Emma's roll-out of the Manor while simultaneously feeling the stress of it in my gut. I have also performed the "heavy lifting" in sorting/down-sizing several family households/properties while making sure the heirlooms remain safe and in the family. The task of sorting and maintaining the Manor is huge. Wishing you the best of luck. Dealing with the mold and leaks is of high priority and you are clearly of the same mind. You will nail it! Keep all family involved as you sort through contents, but the sooner you get through the clutter and damaged items, the better. Good luck!
What a amazing journey you two are going to have. Love your videos I will follow your progress excited of what you will find on the way probably more ghosts 😊 from Kent UK...live in New Zealand ❤
Hank, I have watched you for years on GCN. Your cycling videos are epic and my favorite UA-cam diversion....Until now. Your new channel and your new project is absolutely brilliant. You and Emma are wonderful and compelling. If your videos were 2 hours long, I would watch every second. Well done and keep is going!
Thanks for showing us around, what is an important building in the UK's heritage. Not many buildings have a history that started before the Tudors and then was added to under different generations. Your Aunt should be really proud of the work that she's done, I have no doubt that she has saved an important building for future generations to not only live in, but to study as well. 👍
Definitely think you could turn those rooms into a self contained apartment, with a separate heating system. So the old playroom could be a kitchen diner, with the old bathroom as a utility room. The haunted orange room as an office, then no one sleeps in there. Where you stayed when you were younger, would make a lovely sitting room. The rest of the rooms, would be bedrooms, for you guys, any future children or family and friends who stay over.
Hi, as I’m sure you are aware your in a unique position having the house with so much history to learn about it. But also now the world of UA-cam exists. Have you considered doing cross overs with other channels. For example I’m sure there must be model railway channels that could tell you about what you have in the attic. I’m sure there must be many UA-cam channels that could help such as other ones like antique furniture to history researcher all who would love to work with you. In addition could you move the railway magazines to the attic and create a library. The more UA-cam channels you work with about the house/objects/land and animals the more subscribers you will get Look forward to finding out so much more. Cheers
The colors you mentioned, the green, yellow and orange were incredibly popular in the 70’s in the US. Especially in kitchen appliances! The names were avocado, harvest gold and flame. Our kitchen was all avocado when I was growing up.
Just about to watch this episode but amazingly enough I randomly chose a ride on Kinomap this morning by a videographer called markacres which ended up right outside the front gates to Chavenage House & Gardens. It was named - Wotton under Edge to Chavenage road loop part 1 of 2 - spooky 😀 recorded in June 2024. There's also a Pt 2 posted which starts from the gates - Wotton under Edge to Chavenage road loop part 2 of 2. Keep up the good work, the wife and I are enjoying your progress/ videos.
honestly im loving the vibes here, usually when i try watch a manor video they are just bland and boring but here i dont know just the energy is enough xD keep her going lad
Wow, so many rooms, yeah where do you start. This will be a fantastic adventure to watch your progress. Hank, which room will hold your indoor trainer, haha. Luv your show and your sense of humour.
What I wouldn’t do to have been born over in the Uk. Canadian by birth but we looked up to and celebrated the UK. Sang to the queen, spelled check as cheque etc. the UK was billed as utopia. I’m 65 and know it’s not but I’m 1/2 French and 1/2 from UK, Ireland in particular. I felt like it was something to achieve in my adulthood.
Agree with DebraEve, but you have a huge task ahead! I hope you have or will sit down with a very good architect/ designer/decorator to plan how to give the fabulous old rooms (for visitors) a bit of refreshing, dusting, waxing and painting. Then decide what has to be changed (like the 1960 bedcover under the splendid "Verdure tapisserie"....or the color scheme of each room. It does not need a lot of money to wake it up, only elbow grease. As for your private appartements, may be you could paint the splendid but very dark paneling ..., That was said with sympathy for you, admiring your courage, good humour and charming videos. -and bravo for your coffeeshop it's perfect.... unlike my English.
Love your home, its history is amazing! As an American I always find it interesting that while we speak the same language there are funny differences. Hubby and I watching from Australia. You are both incredibly genuine, polite and entertaining. Truely Fantastic! 😊🇦🇺🦘❤
Thanks so much! 😊
I'd like to see more and longer videos. Absolutely brilliant, such a beautiful home and you two are natural presenters. Thanks.
funny you say that 😄
We hope to bring you longer videos! In the near future!! So we will keep you posted !
@@LifeAtTheManor_1you can probably donate those magazines to the Gloucester Warwickshire Railway.
I'm from the northeast area of the US. "Homely" means ugly. When a room is cozy, we say it's "homey." Can't wait to see your renovations. You two are awesome!
I was thinking the same thing. Also from the NE US. 😆
Also thinking the same, as I was raised in Northern Virginia (we don't associate much with Southern Virginia). Currently, I live now in the Midwest, but they often treat me like I'm not in their "club" lol.
Same. And I'm from out West! My mother would use that term. 😂
'Homely' in England is to be comfortable, cozy in one's home.
You two have nailed the perfect combination of charm and high production quality. What a lot work, but it's so vital to preserve this history and I admire your passion. Can't wait for more videos!
Wow, thank you!
@@LifeAtTheManor_1 Well done! Great video, I liked and subscribed. Could you please show the chapel?
Agree! Truly!
You guys crack me up 😂just love how natural you are. The back stories are fascinating and around each corner there is a piece of family history.
Thank you so much!!
Excellent video! The floor plan REALLY makes a big difference, thank you for including that!
Glad it was helpful!
Love that you show the floor plan.

Completely fascinated to see all this history! Would love some ghost stories. Youre both such good hosts, personality shines through

@@ChezlifecoachingWe use homey for cozy/warm/welcoming in the southern the states.
Gosh- the amount of work you have ahead of you - but if anyone can do it, it is you two.
Fun! You two are naturals. Can’t wait to see the progress you make on your living areas of the home.

Maybe the Penny Farthing Room.
On the model railway magazines, my grandfather was the same and the archive at the national railway museum in York took a lot of them

Poldark was set in the late 1700s and early 1800s, not the 1600s. Trenwith was however an Elizabethan house.
