Well I remember in the 03/04 season, beings I’m a diehard Chiefs fan, Priest Holmes rushed for 27 TDs the NFL single season record at the time and 2,110 total yards.... and that same year, Jamal Lewis ran for over 2,000 yards....but NEITHER, got the MVP. In one of the worst picks for MVP, there were 2 OTHERS who “Co-MVP’d”!!! Steve McNair and Peyton Manning. Both had very average #’s. I’ve never felt so cheated for one of my teams players in all of football. I just had to get that rant off of my chest.
@Darell Hunter That’s wild af. If memory recalls, the Chargers were 4-12 and earned the first overall pick. And LT STILL had a superstar season (with a rookie Antonio Gates showing flashes of being an elite tight end). Truly a great time for running backs.
Marshall Faulk really is somewhere in the top 10 backs to ever play in the NFL. His receiving ability out of the backfield kept defenses honest and was the keystone of that offense. Four seasons with over 2,000 yards from scrimmage. Eight seasons with at least 1,490 yards from scrimmage. One of 3 players to have over 1,000 rushing and receiving yards in the same season. He racked up 580 yards and ELEVEN touchdowns over the final three games of 2000, his MVP season.
This was awesome. I started watching football when I was 11 in 2000. This was nostalgic and it brought back so many memories of epic games. Some of my favorite running backs of all time too.
When I read the title, I thought "ehh." Then I clicked and watched, and I was quickly reminded of all those great RBs that played that year! Nostalgia! Thanks for this video!
Barry Sanders is the greatest running back of all time. He played with no hall of famers. Always 8 in the box against him. Played in the height of the steroid era. His numbers improved every year. And made the best look ridiculous every week.
I can't argue with Barry did but with Jim Brown did when he played against 10 Man fronts in the box with one receiver passing offensive sets with his all out physical style can't be forgotten.... The man averaged a hundred yards a game in over 5 yards of carry playing on mud soaked Fields against 10 man fronts every single Sunday that is insane!!!😳 Playing against Lombardi's Packers the Minnesota Vikings purple eaters with Jim Marshall Carl Eller and that insane front line they had then the Rams with Deacon Jones and Merlin Olson and a whole host of other great defenses I love Barry Sanders but I find myself going back between him and Jim as the best ever
Crazy thought here. First off, yes lotta these backs are greats. But this this many RB’s had this many rushing yards. It’s safe to say that defense wasn’t a priority in the 2000 season, which is why so many backs were able to have such great stats.
Emmitt Smith in the year the Cowboys won their second straight Super Bowl rout of the Bills. During his holdout, Dallas lost their first 2 games, but he came back and won the rushing title leading Dallas to a dominant performance including the season finale in which he single Handily beat the Giants. Then, his performance in the Super Bowl along with Leon Lett’s tremendous play of causing the fumble that changed the momentum of that game. From rushing for yards, especially in short yardage in the red zone, always finding that first down, catching those dump passes, picking up blitzing linebackers, and playing great with a separated shoulder, it is a no brainer.
It’s fitting that the 2000 Ravens won the Super Bowl. They have a strong case as the greatest defense in NFL history but they have an even stronger case as the greatest rush defense in NFL history.
Running backs mentioned: -Marshall Faulk -Eddie George -edgerrin James -Mike Anderson -Corey Dillon -Jamal Lewis -Priest Holmes -Thomas Jones -Shaun Alexander -Ricky Waters -Jerome Bettis -Mike Alstott -Warrick Dunn -Curtis Martin -Emmitt Smith -Ricky Williams -Tyrone Wheatley -Napoleon Kaufman -Tiki Barber -Ron Dane -Fred Taylor -Robert Smith -Charlie Garner -James Stewart -James Allen -Duce Daly -Dorsey Levins -Ahman Green -Stephen Davis -Lamar Smith -Jamal Anderson

Seeing what Derrick Henry and Kamara are doing right now in this day in time with the NFL being so pass happy I think we we’ll see running backs having seasons like this again...
Excellent video! Good blend of informative and entertaining presentation of elite talent from when I first started getting into football, well done sir.
I remember this as a coming of age young man. I loved the NFL prior to and during these days. These men played to win and prove themselves. Those days are long gone in most sports. I don't watch professional sports anymore. I miss those days when I could actually admire a professional athlete.
Such a GREAT VID RITE HERE , THA #NFL WAS A DIFFERENT LEAGUE BACK THEN!!! IMAGINE HAVING ALL THOSE "HOF / 1000+ YRDS a season" RB's in 2days game.... THA #NFL HAS SOOOO MUCH HISTORY & ii ALWAYS HAVE TIME TOO LEARN!!!
The period from 95-04 was the peak of the NFL for me. There was this great mixture of great all-time defenses (00 Ravens, 02 Bucs), great all-time QBs (Favre, Young, Warner, and the dawn of Brees, Manning, and Brady), and an ocean - absolute ocean - of awesome runningbacks. The league was never more overloaded with great runningbacks than it was in this period. What made it so great was that there was some kind of balance to this. Offense didn't overwhelm defense like it does now. The passing game doesn't drown out the run like it does now.
Wow, it's been so long since that time that I didn't realize that all of those dudes were in the league at that time. And I knew all of their names before the narrator would call them out, except for Robert Smith of the Minnesota Vikings, I forgot his name for a moment and a couple of other running backs. But, other than that every running back, I for the most part, knew who they were. Great stuff.
That's only one hall of fame. Eddie George might get in at sometime. As for Johnson and Henry they had only 1 great season. Just by going by your standards if you are going to include one great season, Cowboys is Smith, Dorsett, Elliott, and Murray. At least 2 of them are in the hall of fame,
He’s certainly top 10 for me. What’s crazy about James is that despite all of the great running backs that the University of Miami has had, he’s the only one who currently holds 2 of the top 10 highest rushing yards seasons, as well as he’s the only running back in the history of the Miami Hurricane to reach the 250 rushing yards mark in a single game which he did twice.
The 90s were the best generation of running backs, and so weres the 2000s, but no one in my opinion other than barry and emmitt can top the og jim brown Also can you cover the 2011 season, aka year of the qb? We had like 4 or 5 guys throw pass or close to 5000 yards
Its crazy that it happened the only year Peyton Manning missed an entire year during his career. They were all talking like his reign as top qb was over, not even top 10 anymore. And he comes back and wins qb of the year twice, an mvp and the greatest season in NFL history for a qb. So he at least made up for missing that year.
2018 was pretty crazy also. 5 guys alot 4600-5100. But what was crazy was 8 qbs had 31-50 passing tds that season. But I think this season broke it, I think like 9 or 10 guys got 31 or more tds. Defense is trash now, way to easy to play qb now.
This makes even more sense considering 2000 was during a generational transition in QBs. HOFs like Aikman, Marino, Young we’re retiring teams like the bills, broncos who were a few years removed from losing their all time qbs were transitioning future HOFs like Manning and Brady and Warner were beginning to emerge and the middle class of QBs were very poor which led to many offenses having to rely on the running game
Video idea, cover the crazy three year period where Alexander, Holmes, Tomlinson, battled for the rushing TD record
Those numbers look comical now.

Don’t ever disrespect McNair like that again #TTFU
@@BeHope113 or what? Lol gtfoh keyboard tough guy Steve me nuts groupie lol
@@GalacticCenterOG bruh it’s a joke
Jamal Lewis won offensive player of the year I think. But Priest Holmes should’ve won league MVP hands down.
@Darell Hunter That’s wild af. If memory recalls, the Chargers were 4-12 and earned the first overall pick. And LT STILL had a superstar season (with a rookie Antonio Gates showing flashes of being an elite tight end).
Truly a great time for running backs.
Eddie George should be in the HOF, dude was the definition of durable and thats at the running back position.
Nah. Hall of very good maybe
Let’s be honest everyone was trying to recreate Dallas & Emmitt Smith offense. That’s why there were so many RBs with high numbers.
Interesting
Man this brings back some great memories. I loved watching all these guys, Marshall Faulk is my #1 half back of all time
Barry Sanders is the greatest running back of all time. He played with no hall of famers. Always 8 in the box against him. Played in the height of the steroid era. His numbers improved every year. And made the best look ridiculous every week.
He is one of the greatest athletes ever out on earth but remember the steroid era was mainly baseball
@@memeteam2692 football too. Basically all sports was juicing big time during that era.
Sanders did play with pro bowlers and all pro olineman though. They weren't legendary but they were still a great oline.
“First there’s Fred Taylor (Fred Taylor was so good)” 😂😂
Fred Taylor was good as hell man💯
Crazy thought here. First off, yes lotta these backs are greats. But this this many RB’s had this many rushing yards. It’s safe to say that defense wasn’t a priority in the 2000 season, which is why so many backs were able to have such great stats.
Geez 23 1000 yard rushers. Give credit to the linemen. This must have been one of the best years for linemen as well.
I love seeing my man Wheatley in there. Loved playing with him on the Raiders on the old 2K and Madden games.
All the more impressive that the Ravens defense set an all time record for fewest rushing yards allowed that year.
Loved this era of Tailbacks/Running backs especially my guys Warrick Dunn,Marshall Faulk, Fred Taylor,Tiki Barber
This is my kind of football I miss and kids in today’s generation won’t know about this era💯🏈
Well this video helps. Lol
I’m glad the video started off with Edgerrin James running. 😊 Lol what a year. I remember it like it yesterday.
This is one of the best NFL videos ever
11:30 LOVE THAT CAMERA VIEW
Ya. Could almost see what Fred Taylor’s eye color is lol
@@oddbigking9069 Real talk🤣🤣🤣
It’s fitting that the 2000 Ravens won the Super Bowl. They have a strong case as the greatest defense in NFL history but they have an even stronger case as the greatest rush defense in NFL history.

23 players rushed for 1000+ yards that season, that crazy
Of all my knowledge that I have of this great league, these are stats I didn't even know. By far, my favorite video on UA-cam all-time. Bring the feature RB back into the game!
Derrick Henry is showing what a legit work horse STUD can do 4 a team
Ray Lewis and the Ravens defense were like the running back erasers back then.About 70 games straight and not a single 100 yd rusher allowed
Just starting to get into football and this video has become one of my favorites. Thank you. Love it!
Seeing what Derrick Henry and Kamara are doing right now in this day in time with the NFL being so pass happy I think we we’ll see running backs having seasons like this again...
I never thought of this but I think you’re right about this list in 2K!!!!
Champ Bailey had a rushing TD that year
Thanks for the statement on Ahman Green. That guy was an incredible talent. Really overlooked. His game would transition into today's game seamlessly.
By far the greatest RB season ever that Broncos O-Line was crazy
Excellent video! Good blend of informative and entertaining presentation of elite talent from when I first started getting into football, well done sir.
Terry Allen & Tyrone Wheatley kept me knowing every starting RB across the league
I LOVE watching Ahman Green highlights from the early 2000s. Such a great runner and athlete
Back when running backs were so much more valued and before they changed the rules to benefit offense and mainly the quarterback.
The greatest rushing season in history ironically had a SB champion better known for run defense
It makes sense, you stop the run you win against 26 teams.
IMHO O.J. Simpson had the best rushing season in NFL history averaging over 147 ypg.
They don't like to talk about him nowadays
Them 2000 running back was so good even the back up RB
This video is so amazing and informative!!! Thank you because I did not know this year was that dope
What a time to be a fan ..... 💪🏻🏈
THANKS FOR TIME & EFFORT
I remember this as a coming of age young man. I loved the NFL prior to and during these days. These men played to win and prove themselves. Those days are long gone in most sports. I don't watch professional sports anymore. I miss those days when I could actually admire a professional athlete.
I miss these days of football the most. Gimme year of the rb over qb any day
Such a GREAT VID RITE HERE , THA #NFL WAS A DIFFERENT LEAGUE BACK THEN!!! IMAGINE HAVING ALL THOSE "HOF / 1000+ YRDS a season" RB's in 2days game.... THA #NFL HAS SOOOO MUCH HISTORY & ii ALWAYS HAVE TIME TOO LEARN!!!
Running backs have always been my favorite position, so this was great to watch when they were so important to the offense.
What an awesome video!!!
Man I miss these nfl days. Great video man
I liked that video excellent work.
Thank you for mentioning Fred Taylor and Mike Alstott. Two extremely underrated runners of all time.
Barry is the Mario Lemieux of the NFL. Arguably the best ever, but a shortened career removes him from contention
Corey Dillon was a beast
The period from 95-04 was the peak of the NFL for me. There was this great mixture of great all-time defenses (00 Ravens, 02 Bucs), great all-time QBs (Favre, Young, Warner, and the dawn of Brees, Manning, and Brady), and an ocean - absolute ocean - of awesome runningbacks. The league was never more overloaded with great runningbacks than it was in this period.
What made it so great was that there was some kind of balance to this. Offense didn't overwhelm defense like it does now. The passing game doesn't drown out the run like it does now.
This is the best vid ever.
From and RB
I RB
Love RB
Wow, it's been so long since that time that I didn't realize that all of those dudes were in the league at that time. And I knew all of their names before the narrator would call them out, except for Robert Smith of the Minnesota Vikings, I forgot his name for a moment and a couple of other running backs. But, other than that every running back, I for the most part, knew who they were. Great stuff.
Eddie had great balance as a runner beautiful to watch.....bring back the big mouthpieces
Ray Lewis and the 2000 Ravens were about that life
Its crazy how many 1000 yard rbs the broncos had from like 98 to 2008
My titans have the greatest collection of RBs all time Earl,Eddie,Chris,Derrick
That's only one hall of fame. Eddie George might get in at sometime. As for Johnson and Henry they had only 1 great season.
Just by going by your standards if you are going to include one great season, Cowboys is Smith, Dorsett, Elliott, and Murray. At least 2 of them are in the hall of fame,
Fred Taylor and Shaun Alexander should be in the HOF
Awesome vid! I miss the days when teams ran the ball! Now there's only one or two Running Backs that get over 300 carries.
Edgerrin James is my favorite running back of all time.
The 90s were the best generation of running backs, and so weres the 2000s, but no one in my opinion other than barry and emmitt can top the og jim brown
Also can you cover the 2011 season, aka year of the qb? We had like 4 or 5 guys throw pass or close to 5000 yards
6 quarterbacks finished with 4,600 passing yards or more
Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Stafford, Eli Manning and Rivers
Great Great video! Damn I miss that style of play
5:09 that’s a touchback if they reviewed every scoring play like they do now
It’d be cool to see a video about all the insane passing stats from 2011 and 2012. Idk what happened but the league went crazy those 2 seasons
I loved this! Brings back so many memories
The Greatest Rushing Season ended with the Greatest Run Stopping Defense of All Time winning the Lombardi.
As a 49ers fan Faulk was an unstoppable nightmare. 3rd & 6 rec or rush TD. He was electric only LT, AP since come close.
NFL Throwback u should do the greatest qbs season(for example 2007, 2011, & 2013) too this was a awesome video I 💘 it.
As a Viking fan Robert Smith has his best season in 2000
The defenses that year must of been exhausted all year lol
2000s nfl had a vibe
The total TD in a season record was broken 3 times in a 6 year span...shows how good the backs were back in the 2000s
4 year span, 03, 05, and 06. But 04 Priest Holmes was on track for 30 tds so 05 and 06 would have been irrelevant if he got that.
Amazing video. Really well done no lie
I want to see Eddie George make the HoF
2003 deserves some love, similar to 2000
These are some special players!
That tiki barber touchdown when he reversed fields is insane!
It seems like now you have years where you barely have 5-6 1,000 yard rushers.
Mike Alstott was truly one of a kind. One of the all time greats and eternally loved in Tampa. Deserves to be in the HOF
I don’t think Robert Smith gets near the recognition he well deserves. He also retired in the prime of his career.
I didn't know the reason until now
