I used to watch these "cliff hanger" serials on Saturday morning TV as a kid in the 1950s. The 50s and 60s were a golden era to me in TV, as the quality of shows generally declined starting in the 70s.
Absolutely. As a kid who grew up watching '70-'80s series and today I'm a sucker for that nostalgia, but even back then I felt the old serials were better.

Watching these old serials over the last week with my grandson. The first time he broke into a full out loud belly laugh I asked him what was so funny. He told me that although the stories were good fun they made him think about how little people of those years knew about space (he is 11 yrs old). He has liked astronomy I guess from the first time he looked up and knows a lot about it. For instance he brought up the fact that M27 (brought up in chapter 6) is a nebula and was discovered in 1764 and is about 1300 light years away.

Now the hero is in space on the outside of his ship without a spacesuit. Awesome. Woman "The protective space blanket is in space protecting the earth" Then the space blanket is at 60,000ft. Love the way he gets out the ship and jumps off flies to the other ships and lands on it to disable it with no speed force throwing him off.
William Shallert (Mr. Richards) also played Patty Duke's father on "The Patty Duke Show" 1963-1966. Love this.
He also played the ambulance driver early in the movie "Them!"
The most poorly guarded top secret government operation ever. Two 70+ year old security guards watching over the rocket ship and one of them is always driving Commando’s car “back to town.” You gotta love it.
ill drive your mother back to cjm town, she'll enjoy that.
Fascinating to see how the film industry saw space travel in those days, suits and hats compulsory for crew members!
great for a laugh lol
Yet another CLASSIC series. 🗡
Just love those 50's two piece suites, total class.
Don't forget the Fedora hats.
This picture quality is stunning for such an old show this almost looks modern retro
The sound and picture quality is amazing! Thanks.
Love how those guy's have a secret room right in Captain Codys house and he has no clue😂
When I saw those eyes looking out from the picture and then the secret room door opened up, I thought to myself, security sure is an afterthought for a Top Secret project in an old western ghost town.
... and I'm completely dumbfounded as to why Baylor never once snapped and bludgeoned his assistant to death for following him around and asking really intelligent questions.
Born in 51 I remember watching this !!!!
Me too!
Really liked his band, when he was promoted to Commander Cody !
Yep 2 shots of whiskey 1 shot of gin and I'm up in the ozone again.
@@michaelcoulter714 " He said son you're gonna drive me to drinkin' ,if you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln"
Grew up listening to Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen thanks to my father.
Live at the armadillo
I heard they used Commander Cody so they wouldn't infringe on copyrights.
This video just popped up and I truly Love Cheezy Sci Fi ! 👍🥰
Heard of it, but this is the first time I've seen an episode.
Don't you just love how there are clouds and breathable air in outer space, and the were the best at re-cycling scenes. I was about 5 when this was shown, and loved the heck out of it, until I saw Forbidden Planet and saw what things we more, realistically like.
O Boy! This takes me back to my childhood. This ,flash and Buck.
Real Nice- thanks for posting.
For years I thought this was Captain Midnight as I was trying to find it. Was 8 years old in 1955 when this came on every Saturday and what a joy it is to see it again and still enjoy it too!!!♥️👌🏿
Wow this is great, awesome quality as well. Thank you, CCC
Watching commando Cody at age 7 1961, guarding nuclear missiles for the elite strategic air command 1974 at age 20 !🎉 thank you commando cody!😂❤
Ive always been into old tv and movies especially black and white. Honestly im a history nut in general. When i watch these things i put myself in the era they were filmed. Ive never saw this series before, just now starting it so i hope it's good. Just want to show my appreciation for all the folks that upload these gems, thank you!
Great looking upload. Thank you, so much!
Great series. Have watched over many times 👍
These guys have the worst security ever🙄great series tho 👍😊💖
They're almost as good as the security at the U.S. Capitol! Haha!
Scene where the ship is about to crash land in the South Pole (or wherever:) lighting, photography, action, are all quite avant garde for the time. Very spectacular and pulse pounding. (“Mr Henderson” still calling Commando, ‘Commander.’ “)
Yes! one minute the guys were out for a stroll in their Sax Fifth Avenue fall coats and casual dress shoes. Next minute, they were magnificently accoutred in full Eskimo threads, tooling around in a tricked-out iditarod dog sled. What a leap in movie logic.
Great stuff. Love the Cody rocketship. And I'm sure Elon Musk loved the design also...

I was impressed by aggressiveness in chapter 1. Not only does he shoot first in the cave, he blows up the miscreant with a grenade.
Of course, the bad guy threw the grenade at Commando first.
Marvel Cinematic Universe, take note !
They never hit their target with regular pistols. 😊😊
Wow! GREAT quality.
I used to watch these "cliff hanger" serials on Saturday morning TV as a kid in the 1950s. The 50s and 60s were a golden era to me in TV, as the quality of shows generally declined starting in the 70s.
same , after mid 70's it just went crap , aye !
Absolutely. As a kid who grew up watching '70-'80s series and today I'm a sucker for that nostalgia, but even back then I felt the old serials were better.
Your Felix the Cat Thumbnail ain't bad either. You'll laugh so hard, your sides will ache, your heart will go pittter pat, watching Felix, he's the wonderful cat. 😜
@@sgt.duke.mc_50 Thanks, I see I'm not the only one who enjoyed those cartoons as a kid.
I just found this with UA-cam suggestions. You bet I'm signing up!
i LOVE THE HAND GUNS THAT DON'T RUN OUT OF BULLETS AHHH MOVIE MAGIC
LOVE THE MASK!
i love these old serials
15:40 - That picture of the cowboy - pure low-budget cheese.
LOL how hilarious viewed from today's optics. Excellent upload quality.
I love it! The robot has a nose!
They were flooding New York city and they show stock footage of palm trees in a hurricane...gotta love it!!
Cool TV Serie 👩🚀🚀
AND THEY ARE STILL AT IT, THOSE DARN ALIENS.
Still better then the Last Jedi
This is all incredibly camp - I love it 🤗
Commando Cody reminds me of the Rocketman TV Series. Nice!
