I just came across your videos about ski areas. They bring back fond memories. I have skied most of the ones in new england including ones that are now defunct. I skied with the Dartmouth ski team in the late 1950's and spent many hours running gates on Suicide Six. Bunny Bertram would load us onto his (recently set up) Poma lift. Which was trickier than all the bumps on the slope ! He would pull the launch lever and you would be catapulted close to 20 feet before landing in the track if you didnt land on you head. Suicide Six proved to be an excellent training ground for skiing slalom, skiing bumps, or a combination of both. There would be the Snite sisters (Betsy Olympic silver) Chick Igaya (silver) and a bunch more who went to the olympics (I was not one of them). Coach Walter Prager took us out to Dartmouth Skiway the day before it officially opened in 1956. We got to pack the slopes by sidestepping down them. There was no fancy grooming equipment.
i LOVE THIS! the HISTORY! the FRIENDSHIP! the CONCENTRATION! the LOBSTAH! also my favorite skiing memory from this year was going down my first trail in SEVEN YEARS at stowe!☺️
Thank you Aanika, I grew up in New Hampshire and a ski racer, traveled to nearly all the ski resorts in the Northeast. Suicide Six was always one of my faves because of the laid back vibe and awesome atmosphere. Doesn't look like its changed a bit in 40 years.
Thank you for sharing your story! Suicide Six definitely had that small-town, homey feeling I love. I hope I get to show some of your other favourites too 😊
Great video. Naomi and I were fortunate to take a ski trip to Lutsen, MN in January of this year with some glacier buddies. In hindsight it was even sweeter knowing what the year would bring.
@@aanikaskis I've only been to Lutsen, but it was a blast! Nice steeps, lots of terrain, concerts in the village, good views of lake superior. I was pleasantly surprised at the snow quality for it being in the midwest.
