    This is good but quite contradictory. First, you pointed that it has to do with similarities and differences. Then you said it has to do with whether they are illustrated or not. Last but not least, does that mean we cannot use ‘to’ when compare is used intransitively even to emphasize the similarities?!

    This was honestly confusing. Anyway, is it "compared to previous years" or "compared with previous years"? :D
