    I'm laying in my 2018 990 truck camper that ive been living in for 4 months during a construction project away from home in Portland watching this video...i love mine. Did a ton of research and informed by your videos how solid these arctic fox campers are. The price tag for a new one was hard to Swallow but i pulled the trigger and Apache campers out of Everett Wa. has taken absolutely amazing care of me. 5 stars and 2 thumbs up to those guys!!! No buyers remorse like my previous $50k forest river shock wave. That thing was a POS.

    Taylor, great name, that's my son's name too! Just wanted to say thank you very much for posting this video. My wife and I have looked at a lot of RV's brands. We've gone to several different RV Super Shows. Unfortunately, everything brand that we've looked at (not Northwoods) is JUNK! It's just unbelievable to see the garbage that these other manufacturers mass produce.
    With that being said, we've done our due diligence. As I have said several times to other people, Nothwoods comes out on TOP. ALWAYS! Quality product, well built. Pride and craftsmanship show through with this company and their brand(s).

    Wow! I'm shocked about shocks! I didn't know that was standard with any mfg for travel trailers! I like their attention to that! KYD did enhancements by enclosing the leaf spring hanger flanges to strengthen the frame and suspenstion attachment points. In speaking of insulating tank valves, I had to prep my 5er for moving while it was below freezing. My black tank valve froze between the time I pulled down the skirting and the time I was pulling my plumbing connections. I've learned the value of insulating tank valves!

    The Riverstone floor is much much better but I do like how Artic Fox uses Styrofoam instead of house insulation.

  • @mpenner2124
    @mpenner2124 4 роки тому +1

    They use uninsulated aluminum framing--just foam stuck in the bays between frame members. There's nothing Arctic or 4-season about that. It's the same wall as many other low-end aluminum RV's. These suck down a lot of energy with cabinet doors open, etc., to try to stay thawed in real cold. Water lines will freeze if they are up close to a frame member and frost forms on the walls, outlining the frame, from the heated interior air with any moisture in it from cooking, showers, etc.

    Thanks for the tour of Fox Mountain fifth wheel and Nash trailer assembly. They do spend a lot of time and effort in mfg of these coaches. I love my Arctic Fox Fifth Wheel and would buy it again and again if anything happen to my current AF. The Arctic Fox is well build and heavy as compared to other brands, which means you need a big truck to legally and safely tow an AF. But what you get is a very well built coach that will last a very long time. I have a rear kitchen fifth wheel and AF's shocks and wheel system does ensure the dishes stays in place, I never had to rearrange my stuff after a days drive. I been in several snow storm with near 0 degrees F nights without problems with freezing of water and was warm inside.

  • @helicolors3970
    @helicolors3970 5 років тому +2

    I started to watch your first video as you went through the Northwood Factory. I hit the stop button when I saw them laminating Lauan to the aluminum tubing. I thought the design & fabrication was pretty nice right up until I saw them laminating Lauan to the aluminum. Lauan is the most inexpensive plywood made which the majority of RV manufacturers use in the construction of their RV shells. If you have ever seen the exterior side panels of an RV that have areas where the exterior plastic panel is bubbled and loose, the reason for this is because of a water leak at either the roof edge seam or around a window or any other entry point that water can leak in and wick into the wood. When Lauan gets wet it comes apart in time causing these large loose bubbled areas. I know this because I have repaired a number of RV's having this problem. The sad thing is that this problem can be completely alleviated by using a composite material like Coosa board or Space Age Composite panels. These composite panels are made in a variety of thicknesses, lengths and widths. The composites that I am referring to are lighter than wood, stronger than wood and will not absorb water or deteriorate like wood does. I have used both Coosa board and the composite board from Space Age composites for both RV and boat repairs.
    The composite boards 1/4" thick x 4' x 8' run approximately $135 each whereas Lauan is about $7 per sheet, so it is clearly obvious why most RV manufacturers do not use it. If you have to pay to have the exterior wall of your RV repaired, the cost for the repair most likely will be substantially more than the additional cost if it were used in the RV's original construction.
    They are just like every other RV manufacturer that uses Lauan in their construction process.
    Anyone owning any RV that has seen the de-lamination areas on the exterior side walls of their RV's know exactly what I am talking about. Unless you are familiar and have actual experience removing the exterior plastic panels to access the water damaged Lauan areas for repair, the average person has no idea about this nor do they ask the RV dealers what materials are used in the construction of the RV or if those material are susceptible to problems. If more people were aware of the issues involved with using Lauan in RV construction most likely more people would be leaving the RV dealer with their wallets intact.

      Interesting observations. As nice as Arctic Fox products are, that is exactly why I chose a Northern Lite camper. The fiberglass clam shell design has no wood to delaminate. I have had punky RVs and they are no fun.

    Disappointed to see the old, problematical "luan" wood STILL being used in the walls (as seen in your truck camper video) in 2019. If any de-lamination happens, it's usually the luan causing it (if it ever gets wet wood swells and that pressure causing delamination). I think the newer Azdel construction is preferable.

      Bill Redding:
      For the kind of money that Northwood charges Dealers for their Products (end result of very high Retail Stickers), I would be more inclined/Impressed to buy their product if they had (modular-cut to length)1 piece Aluminum/Fiberglass sheets (with rounded 90 degree corners) for their roofs (campers,trailers and 5th wheels).........with or without Luan as a composite-wall backing material....it would not matter. A quality roof would eliminate the chances of the walls of taking on water soon or down the road.
      And to ensure the roof is never compromised, I (the manufacturer would/should pre-install weather-proof brackets and electrical pigtails for those folks wanting to install:carriers, solar panels,etc.)...and just like a aircraft,big-rig,etc............plaster on stickers (all over on top of the roof) advising people to not drill any part of the roof or warranty is voided,etc.

      @@calikalbocalikalbo6082 Nice...but the huge Forest River conglomerate (what, they make a dozen RV brands?) is perhaps the LARGEST crap-maker RV manufacturer in America (and their Customer Service/Care after the sale is poorly-rated also). That mainly applies to their assorted brands of towables (TTs and 5ers), but in the Class B segment their Coachmen Beyond MAY be an exception...but even if it is, you still have the Customer Service/Care issue remaining. :-(

      Is that true?
      From the research I have done and the build videos I have seen it appears the Rverstone from what I can see looks to be the best built from the others I have seen.
      In addition they come with many standards that are options on all others like, tankless water heater, second fireplace in room, washer/dryer, full body paint, has a 3" wall compared to the rest that might have two at the most and the water manifold system that is a big deal.
      If you know of something better built with all that stuff (or without the stuff) please inform me.

    2 things that Colby said about the roof that I have to comment/question. First the industry standard of 2 foot centers. Do other mfg. have the space marked off between their trusses and tell the new owners not to step in those areas? I've never heard of this. The second is about insulation. He said "5 1/2in. space insulated with R-18 in combination with an R-15 reflective foil". So is that R-33 total in a 5 1/2in. space? I'd like to see this R-15 reflective foil. I'm just starting to build a camper van and would love to insulate the whole thing with just one product rated at R-15.

      Radiant barrier foil has an actual R-value of 1 to 1.1, something that became a big issue and was subjected to new federal regulation about 20 years ago, but the RV industry is exempt from it. In the RV industry you multiply the actual number by 15 to 40 to get the R-value for the marketing department to try to sucker prospective customers with.

    While those trailers are built a bit sturdier, much of my 13 year old trailer is built the same way. It's damned hard to fix it after it's all glued together. I'd like to see a serious effort in not using caulk to seal roofs; in not using a thin rubber membrane. I'd like to see FlexArmor which is a thick 187 mil fast drying gel that covers all of the roof and fasteners. No more caulking, re-caulking, peeling off old caulk, repairing, and applying new caulk. Roof maintenance is the most dangerous chore on my trailer which is the height of a semi-trailer. Another per peeve is the wood floor structure between the steel trailer frame and the aluminum frame. Any roof damage and this wood structure where the steel and aluminum meet rots. It's a real pain to replace. I replaced this connection with a flexible polymer that has the strength, but is flexible to take the load. No more wood structure between these two metals. I'd like to see #12 wire and 20 amp breakers with wiring trunks. I'd also like to see wind bracing on the landing gear and jacks. But the roof is the number one issue in my book.

    Taylor, We're planning a trip to Victoria and Vancouver (from Napa, California) for this July. I'd like to email you and and get some boondocking sites (with fishing) on Vancouver Island. I'm guessing you'll be working soon and we'd also like to take a (Taylor) Bus Tour. Anyway let me know how to contact you so we can set something up.
