its funny because its true. cali surfers are territorial elitists, and they pretend if you just follow the rules itll be fine, but deep down they know the problem is overcrowding, and theyd be happy to sacrifice you if you dont do it yourself
I was born in San Diego so by the time I was old enough to buy my own ticket to Hawaii I knew very well what they would think of me.... another tourist from the mainland. I sat outside the lineup and just watched a couple cycles go bye. 4 locals hitting their home break and one of em gave me a nod and I was in the lineup getting waves. Respect
One of my favorite low key parts is sterling trying to fists bump someone holding a board while riding there bike lol

Number 1 is right on. I grew up ten miles inland from the Huntington Beach pier. As soon as I turned 16 and got a drivers license I went surfing every weekend but I was smart enough not to surf near the pier until I knew what I was doing. Took about a year of surfing every weekend until I felt like I was decent.

The awesome thing that I love about your videos is that you always mention Braden Dias in your videos with the whole motto “u kno de rules!” thing and find it so funny because you just have that natural trait about you! I grew up on a skateboard... Always wanted to surf... Begged my mom to buy me this raggedy-ass long board we saw at a garage sale and i used to put that shit in our pool and run and jump on it and skim across the damn pool on that thing. The most inland ass thing ever lmao. I had a great time. Still never learned to surf.. 43 now and wish i wouldve made that dream happen. East Coast though and Florida is 6 hours away. STILL. wish i wouldve.

I am 49, just started surfing last summer... so .. i guess i'm a kook. Still, i came prepared and watched surf videos for a year before i made up my mind. I think i got the hang of the codes but you can spot me by being that surfer taking on big waves but surfing straight back to the beach.... I get these comments like
" you're supposed to surf the face of the wave "... yeah no shit Sherlock.
