omg this is so true, ever since i come here to iceland people keeps asking me about one night stand with them. Once i got asked like 3x in a day from a total strangers it's so wild over here, but that was 5 years ago. Now, i prefer to stay home. rhythmandacoustics, yes and no. I can only speak for Norway which is similar to Iceland. It is not easy to get with a women in Norway, but once she is into you, there isn't much of a barrier against sex. I think these videos give a bit wrong idea of Nordic people. It makes it sound like we are like Brazilians or something. But many foreigners would perceive us as quit cold and hard to get to know.

@@rhythmandacoustics No it is not just about looks. People are different in Nordic countries as anywhere else. Some kind get attracted to somebody else's personality: confidence, humor etc. In Nordic countries one doesn't actually like this cat and mouse game at all. We would find it quite offensive with things like the cat calling and how it often feel like the guy is trying to buy the girl. I think nordics want it more straight forward and honest. They don't like it when a guy is showering a girl with compliments and gifts to get into her pants. I am not saying that is the case, but how it can often feel. We also expect far more respect for privacy. In latin countries guy would come up to girls they don't know and complement them without knowing them. I remember on vacation in France, when French guys would just come over and touch the hair of the blonde Norwegians girls I was with. To us that is very offensive behavior.
Similar experiences in the US. Norwegian girls in my office who studied in the US talked about how the guys would try to check them up by bragging about how successful they were, what sort of summer house they had, how much money they make etc. For most nordic women, that is a total turnoff. A handsome bragging douchebag is not something Nordic women tend to fall for.

I do not know how the encounter from the French guy did but I am curious to know whether Nordic women will actually find a man flirting with them on the street will feel. Perhaps the French dude was ugly or merely average. Mate selection in Nordic countries appears to be mostly really driven by looks from what I see due to the socialist economic system compared to other western countries.

I don't think it follow that just because economics does not matter as much, there has to be an exclusive focus on looks. Quite the contrary I think in many countries where economics matter more, women ignore a lot of the personal traits of the man. But I would admit nordic women can be quite demanding. Looks alone is not enough. They want a caring, funny and interesting man as well. And it is very important that the man respect her and her opinions. Nordic women are quite strong willed and don't want to be patronized.
Mind you, although I am Norwegian, I don't particularly like the way "dating" works in Nordic countries. I've actually been more comfortable with dating latin women, and presently I married to an American women (10 years). Ultimately my latin dates failed because I simply did not understand the latin cultures well. However I enjoyed my time with latin girls and made good friends if nothing else. Growing up in a Nordic country I think makes you sort of socially hamstrung. I can thank my female latin friends for figuring out better how to be around girls.

Would not matter how the guy looked. Walking up to a girl and starting to touching her hair while showering her with complements would be perceived has highly offensive by most nordic girls. If he was really hot and charming maybe they could cut him some slack if they were in a good mood.

What made you think that? I think that is deceptive. Lookup guys who make pickup into a sport going around the world. These guys actually think Nordic countries are horrible, because they think girls are too opinionated and take demand to be taken serious and listened to. I really love this Single's Guide video series. I hope it's being done for several countries such as: China, European countries, North and South American countries, as well as African countries. It's way cooler and more realistic than "You know you're dating someone" series, since it touches more subject on relationship cultures, while showing a glimpse of the country's favourable environment.

As an Icelander who hates the sex culture it brings me a lot of joy seeing so many people feeling sorry for and trolling on Icelanders in the comments. There is a lot of fucking here but there is also a lot of herpes, chlamydia, alcoholism, depression, cheating, etc. That Icelanders will never talk about because we are, deep down, a very emotionally underdeveloped culture. I think that in the coming years, if we get our mental health and drinking issues resolved, this sex culture will change. It’s a product of parental neglect, social anxiety, boredom and insecurity more than anything, if I could speculate- not all happy and healthy “sex positivity.” And, I am happy that so many can see that.
Idk bro no offense but I think most icelanders have such sex culture cause they have less hobbies and interpersonal values, underdeveloped mental health, and parental neglect. Nothing can be done and nothing in their minds as much as sex. Sex is also used to cope with bad situations, instead of sharing stories with a partner. Yazan Dib the country surely won’t go extinct as Icelanders have a lot of unprotected sex. But, that’s kind of the problem. Iceland only recently became a wealthy country. Now, but also (especially) 50 years ago, there were many teen/young mothers and alcoholic fathers who had unintended children that they consequently neglected- I believe that is the primary cause of this. A lot of us raised ourselves and started drinking in our early teens- it’s because we simply don’t have parental guidance. While we now have money, the mentality has not yet changed. But with time and influence from American culture, for instance, I think things like marriage and true love will become much more appealing. A lot of Icelanders simply don’t know any better. But then we pass it off as being a “sex positive” culture- we don’t know how shitty it is because we don’t know what to compare it to.
Ignas People who have healthy romantic relationships usually have healthy parental relationships. In Iceland, our parents had us very young and neglected many of us. As young teens we start drinking and experimenting with sex. Many of us don’t know what a good loving, relationship is. So, we have sex. It is very depressing. But, I am glad so many people in the comments identified it as such rather than glorify Iceland’s sad sex/relationship culture.

After a 30 year marriage that was honestly one sided and I was the one being used, Iceland would be a living hell for me because sex and relationships are different. For me, I don't just want sex and honestly couldn't without that feeling of love, attraction, commitment, and a desire to be with that person for the rest of my life. To me it seems like their culture has lost that which I value most sadly. IMHO I believe they have lost the true meaning of what it is to be with someone other than just sex. I want a best friend and partner, her and myself against the world kind of thing. Without that …this would be a trip from hell.

And the downside to all this is that there's a huge amount of extremely lonely people here because, amazingly, not everybody is comfortable sleeping with someone they just met. It's even worse if you don't drink very much. Those unfortunate people have no choice but to leave the country in order to get laid. Unless they get lucky and meet a foreign person that's moved here.
Personally, I can't wait to emigrate. Sexual liberation has done nothing for me except cut me off from having a sex life.

Thanks for replying :D I actually saw this video on an Icelandic news site and I thought it was quite well done, despite the fact that it made me want to pull my hair out, hahaha. And in no way am I trying to suggest that sexual liberation is a bad thing, by the way. It's just that this is what you get when the population is not only this small but also (almost literally) trapped on an Island. And the majority lives in one city. It's very scary to even try to get close with someone because in the back of your mind you're always aware that, if you have a bad breakup, you can never quite get away from him/her. They're never more than a day's drive away, in fact.
So we drink heavily to lower our inhibitions, so that we can ignore the fear, so that we can connect with someone. Even if it's just the thousandth one-night-stand in a row.
There are probably other means. I'm sure there are women with similar opinions and needs. That don't want one night stands. Find them

@@johncaccioppo1142 I was born in California, raised in Nevada, lived again in San Francisco for 6 years and now live in Texas. Lots wrong with dating culture here, as anywhere, but America is enormous and there are many ways of life here that are radically different from each other. My point is that indiscriminate promiscuous sex with strangers is not an equal alternative lifestyle or indicative of a liberated, woke society. It's symptomatic of a deeper pathology, and aside from the obvious physical health risks, it creates a lot of emotional problems.
When people are unwilling to face this or have degenerated deeply enough into that lifestyle, they turn their criticism on monogamy and long term relationships because they subconsciously feel guilty and don't want the norm to be established too far above them in a way that would make them feel dirty by comparison. This video's interviews show the young residents of a tiny country saying basically the entire population has this problem. I don't hate Iceland at all. I just hope slutty alcoholism isn't the religion of Iceland's future.

I question how accurate this portrayal is. I bet if you went out to certain places in Los Angeles or Miami Beach or the East Village in New York City on a Friday or Saturday night (pre-Covid), it would be pretty much the same thing. I was stationed in Keflavik in the early 1980s when in the Air Force. Reykjavik is a beautiful city. Iceland a very beautiful country. I found the people very friendly. I saw no one in poverty there. However, it was windy and brutally cold most of the year; there was a restriction imposed on foreigners where they could not be out in public after 1100pm (nightclubs, discos, and bars where Icelanders frequented did not open until 1130pm. I do know how it is there now); never heard of any major crimes; and while I got curiosity-stares, I never felt intimidated and I felt very safe walking around. The town of Akureyri and the Gollfoss waterfall were picture-perfect and memorable experiences. I am a smooth jazz fanatic and one my favorite jazz bands is Mezzoforte. I have all of their albums.
