This was great, thanks for sharing these lessons. My friend and I just went through lesson one and two on the upright in his living room. Plenty there to practice one. One question, is that little outro riff you played at the end have a name? I 've heard it before, and would love to practice it. Thanks!
Thank you! That is not a specific song but is used a lot in jazz to end a song.
You're the first UA-cam double bass dude I've seen to advocate alternating fingers on the right hand pizz. I just started on upright about three years ago.
Coming from electric, alternating fingers are a must. Was told by my teacher not to alternate, but use only the index or both simultaneously. That made it more difficult for me to really develop the chops I need to play upright effectively. Needless to say he's no longer my teacher.

You're right you don't want to be held down by just one technique but he was probably right in advocating two finger pluck for basic quarter note baselines and easier stuff. It's a hard enough instrument to play and using both fingers to pluck helps with stamina playing repetitive parts on longer tunes to not get tired or start hurting or cramping up
@@mattcartwright9442 Yes, definitely. Across every instrument there are different techniques, and some people coming from a jazz/rock background might have different technique than someone who is strictly classically trained. Personally, I do agree that learning multiple ways of doing something and from different perspectives can be beneficial. (This is not Jose, but I believe he has similar thoughts on the matter)

Hello, i have a question: when you play some notes on the E string, i can hear the string making noise (when it hits the fingerboard i assume?). Is that normal and supposed to be that way? Thank you.
It can be. Depends on a couple of things including how you are playing and how your bass is set up. But for different styles of music you might want to avoid that sound and for other styles of music that might actually be a sound that you want to utilize stylistically.
Why is your bridge so crooked?
