The Forrest Gump bench was at Chippewa Square in Savannah. For a while I was incorrectly referring to it as Cherokee Square. So your comment sort of glued it all together - and I was thinking exactly the same thing.
I'm an art historian by profession and play bass in my spare time. I'm also an aviation enthusiast, mainly because for a number of years I used to fly a lot (as a passenger). So I follow this channel due to the very interesting aviation content presented by a professional pilot. And now Juan also plays bass! What!!!
There’s no end to what you’ll find here! Flying lessons, firefighting, dam and reservoir repair and management, real news, and now music lessons! What’s next?
Just thanks...I am revisiting piano after 16 years..just retired and now in lock down...down under. Love aviation, love electronics ( my trade), and love the fact that music transcends all. This was both fun and refreshing. All the beast and stay safe from Aus.
I would definitely put a smile on my face good to see something different break from what's going on in the world today thanks Juan. It was kind of hypnotic
I've been practicing the trumpet while watching youtube videos every day for over 10 years...started watching blancolirio when Oroville happened...had NO idea Juan the nation's best newscaster AND a musician! Greetings from the western suburbs of Chicago.
In Germany, when they started to rearm the military, they trained too many pilots too fast. So they set up a pilot choir sending them around in the country. It was the best-trained choir ever and very well received.
Pro-bass player Kudos!!! I put myself through grad school building RC kits for people and working at a hobby shop. 30 years ago, no one builds anymore. I have been a pro musician for 35 years but I still love planes, so I watch your channel. Keep on playing, your doing great.
I have to say, I learned more about music theory in the first 5 minutes than I did in a year of taking lessons on it. Have you thought of becoming a CFI on the civilian side? With a teaching ability like that you'd make a hell of an instructor!
Bass is typically just a bunch of arpeggios, unless you're a jazz geek. Bass is always the easiest instrument to listen to if you are trying to pick out the chords in a song.
Nice to see you having fun outside of the aviation side of things...Don't get me wrong, I love the aviation world but Never a pilot. However I did spend most of my life studying music in the Jazz and Classical fields as a ...you guessed it playing bass! haha....All the best Brownie!
As somebody who has been around bluegrass music my entire life but never had an inclination to play, this was actually a very useful video for me. Connected some dots with the words and sounds I've heard in my parent's living room and at festivals all over growing up. It might even make sense. Also somehow I follow several UA-camrs who are all secret bluegrass musicians, not sure how that happened...
I love how your aviation shines through with the phonetic alphabet instead of saying A,D,E, etc... Alpha Delta Echo... Hope to see you in the skies soon, if nothing else the mighty Luscombe! Get that class 3 Juan! Happy landings, and thanks for the videos.
I miss sitting around in Nevada City listening to live music while sipping a beer and eating a burger. "Delta, Echo, Alpha," I'm never going to hear music the same again! ;)
Juan, IMHO the addition of music teacher to your repertoire makes you a candidate for the next Dos Equis Beer "The Most Interesting Man in the World"! Legend. Actually your presentations do remind me a bit of Walter Cronkite in a good way.
So many channels on You Tube are in a rut and pretty much do the same type of videos over and over. NOT Juan! One of the reasons I keep watching his channel. Thanks Juan!
Loved it. Thanks for the theory lesson. I tried for years playing bass and guitar but smashed up my lower arm wrist and hand in a motorcycle accident. I tried to relearn using slide but eventually realised I haven't the talent like my dad had so packed it in. Some genetics don't always get handed down😊
Oh, goodness - love this! Never know what you're going to offer, Juan - it is so good to enjoy life in all possible ways. Always learning something from your explanations of anything and everything......I'm 76 years old, played piano all my life (mostly church and gospel) and in the last 18 months have been on a new learning curve, the classics of Bach, Chopin, and Beethoven - - learning slowly, but making progress. So love learning stuff....
My dad played the stand up bass in a band while he was in the Army in WWII. When they formed the band, he had never played the bass before, but he did play the guitar. One day, they announced they needed a bass player and his idea was that the bass was strung just like the guitar, minus two strings, so he went for it. Played many officer's dances (got paid a couple of bucks, plus they got to eat the good chow and drink the good booze). In addition, his commanding officer was actor Eli Wallach who also did troop shows and had the band do the music for those shows.
Great! I’ve gotten my DP Hopkins Black Maple Banjo out during this “stay at home time” and started picking again! Forgotten too much! But, I really enjoy bluegrass. It’s my favorite music! Be safe out there. I appreciate this studio lesson.
I just got my late fathers Kay Blonde bass back from the luthier in Bastrop Texas and found your video. I have never played the bass before but will start with your version of the bass tab for Cherokee Shuffle. I have been playing bluegrass songs on my 1971 D-18 Martin for years and just transcribed Kenny Smith's guitar version of the tune. What a great video for starting out on the bass. Many thanks for this , i didn't find many other bass videos of yours but look forward to watching some of your other videos for sure . The London Boeing 777 one with the fuel calculations was the second one I saw. Wow, a man of so many talents, a true Renaissance man. What a treat finding your bass video and all the followup ones to watch and enjoy. Best to you , Roy Cotton, Austin Texas
LOVE bluegrass! It's all relatively new to me, being born and raised in MA, where us heathens were born and bred on rock and heavy metal, lol. The slow time in the shop has got me learning (listening, not playing) alot of older Country / Western music - Merle Haggard, George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams (and Jr.), etc. - man, I fell in love with it instantly. Learned that I LOVE the sound of a banjo and fiddle. 2 songs from Alabama I can't stop listening to: Mountain Music, and Dixieland Delight. Gives me goosebumps from start to finish! 😎 When I had bought my electric guitar and amp way back in my early teens, I could be shown how to play certain songs, and I'd get it after LOTS of practice, but, reading music and understanding what notes are what, just blew right over my head. The only notes I know are car horns. I have a 4 horn setup in my truck that's A, C, D, and F - I couldn't tell you what level any of them are (flat, sharp, ???) - that's all I know. They harmonize nice. Sounds great! But as far as music goes, I've never been able to get it! Same with card games - never was able to be taught poker. Just couldn't get it. But, I can rebuilt any engine you set in front of me, and it WILL run when I'm done, lol. I also work on modern automotive junk with OBD-II. Was infuriating, but I learned that electronic system over the past 5 years. This was great, Juan! Loved that song. In 10 minutes I won't remember a single note you mentioned, but the song will still be playing in my head! I guess I had too much fun in the 80's, & early to mid 90's. I fried a few cells upstairs ... 😂
When the walls start closing in on me I just go out and start painting rocks. Some red, some blue, some white. Before you know it you have something red, white and blue. Then you start over in reverse. Enjoy your channel, please do more often, Best Regards, ja Chesapeake Va,

I still have my Fender Musicmaster that I bought new in 1957 with my paper route money when I was in junior high school. I paid $125 for the guitar, hard case, and tweed amp. If I had another $100, I could have bought a Stratocaster that is worth upwards of $25,000 My Musicmaster is worth about $3,000 but I would never sell it. FYI - If you like country music, you can play just about any song on the guitar with 3 chords. Juan, your talents are absolutely amazing. I found you on you tube when you were doing the tragic Kobe Bryant videos.
Nice bass fiddling, Brownie! Had a buddy who was a third generation fiddler who was and is a big name in Old Time Fiddle in Texas and surrounding states. It is awesome to listen to live. And I got to go to a jam session once. About 10 of the best fiddlers in Texas and 11 quarts of whisky were present. I learned: You don’t “play” the rhythm guitar, you BEAT the rhythm guitar. Broken strings everywhere! Amazing good time. Keep doing you!
