    I get so happy when I get the notification that you posted a video. I love your personality,your great amount of knowledge.
    Call me strange but Oink (my piggie) and I are so bonded and in tune with one another that I literally didn't have to train her. She goes potty outside and yells at me when she needs to go potty. She decided to potty outside. I tried the puppy pads after she had her babies(I figured I'd kill 2 birds with 1 stone on the puppy pad training) but she did not like it at all. In fact she would gather up all the puppy pads that were around the house, as soon as they were even partially used, and she would put them in a pile behind my husband's recliner. I put a harness on her the day before I brought her home and we've never had an issue with her wearing her harness. The 1st time I put a leash on her, she walked with me. I did have to kind of coax her to not eat the leash as we walk but she never was "technically" leash trained. Same with the car ride. She hated the 1st car ride when we brought her home (I dont blame her, it was a 6hr ride) but every other time that I've put her in the car she does fine. She still yells if she has to go potty when we are in the car.
    Now, with my husband, it's a different story. Oink still has her manners but she sure squawks an awful lot at my husband when he takes her potty.
    We are so in tune that I swear one day she is going to wake me up by yelling "MOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!" instead of her usual series of snorts. She completely understands Human even over the phone.
    I know if we have to do something new with Oink, I tell her what we are going to do before we do it and while we are doing the new task, I talk to her and praise her every 90 seconds, but I've noticed that when we have to do something BIG that Oink has never done before, as long as we are together and I am calm , she does just fine and has no issues.
    Anyways....enough of my ramblings....
    Thank you again for your awesome videos! We love watching them!

    My little boy Goobie learned to poop on the paper like this---- i laid out the paper on the floor & left some poop on it. He got the idea right away and started peeing && pooping on it right away. The next day he had an accident on the rug. I thought he was testing the limits to see what i would do. I just ignored it and cleaned it up. He never had another accident!!! Good boy Goobie!!!!

    We ended up using a couple of upside down storage container lids with bedding pellets. But we first water down the pellets so they break apart. So it's kind of like a powder. He refuses to use the litter box if they are not broken down to powder/shavings. He actually has 2 litters. One on the back laundry room, and one hidden in the living room. He uses both too.

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  6 років тому +1

      I like to use the under bed storage totes also! I have not tried the watered pellet idea before, good to know.
      I encourage most pig owners to keep more than one box. Makes life much easier!

    • @dougadams8946
      @dougadams8946 6 років тому

      @@AdriRachelle I can't stress enough how much better it is. He tends to use one more than the other, but he for sure uses both! It's double the work to clean them, but I'd rather clean a litter box than the floor!

    When I was a kid I lived on a farm, and we always had a few pigs running around outside. Never in the house, but some were designated as pets and others were...not, shall we say. Our pigs also picked a designated drop zone and stuck with it. They never got muddy, unless they had no choice, and the only time they were deliberately dirty was when the weather got hot and they took dust baths to cool off: but that's not really _dirty._ (An 800lb barrow taking a dust bath is quite something.)
    My father used to say, "The trick about herding a pig is, you figure out where the pig wants to go, and then you hurry up and chase him there before he changes his mind."

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  3 роки тому +1

      OH that is too funny!!!😂😂😂 Your father sounds like a hoot!
      Pigs have been given a bad rap, they truly prefer to be clean and from birth will not potty where they live and eat if it can be helped.
      Thank you for sharing Dan!

    You uploaded this video at the perfect time! I get my pig in 2 days and I could really use these tips. Loved this vid :) Instead of praising them with treats, what are other ways I could let my pig know he did the right thing? My good friend who has a pig used to always feed her pig treats and she had a very destructive and spoiled phase.

      Praise and scratches! At first, praising your pig may not mean much, as they won't have a bond with you and generally won't care what you think...but once they love you, knowing that you're happy with them is very rewarding!

  • @Beegeezy144
    @Beegeezy144 2 роки тому

    Do you think newspaper will work? I might try a pad on the bottom, then lay down a bunch of sheets of newspaper and change everything as needed. If that works, there's probably a cheaper paper alternative. Paper's pretty environmentally friendly and affordable.

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  5 років тому +1

      Generally pigs prefer to go outside (unless it's cold/rainy, they're kind of divas :P). So, if you slowly scoot the pad closer to the door, and make sure to take the pig outside a lot and praise often when he goes outdoors, it should be even easier than the pad training was!

    My pig isnt the problem,, its my friend Ricky Guzman,, every time we go out, he gets so wasted that he starts pissing EVERY WHERE other then the tiolet!! Should I maybe take along peepads or cedar chips and litter box.. Or perhaps encourage him to use the Urinal THEN praise and treat him w a Fruit snack?! Is there any advice you can give me on this issue?! I don't know what else to do,, I'm at my Wits end w him, and I'm really considering placing him up for adoption.. Any help will do?!?.🤔🐖

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  5 років тому +1

      My training advice is going to be pretty similar for Ricky. Start back at the basics - diapers. Encourage him to use the appropriate, designated potty place on a regular basis once he starts consuming excessive amounts of liquids - leading him to it, asking him to give it a try, wait patiently. When he does, it is okay to reward him with a little head scratching or kind words but avoid using treats as a reward as he may become too demanding. Once you feel he's consistently displaying the correct potty habits, you can graduate to pull ups. If, however, you notice him reverting, it's straight back to diapers. Always remind him of the end goal, those super hero, big boy undies, so he has something to work towards. I can tell you really care about Ricky, so just be patient and understanding. I'm confident re-homing isn't necessary with some consistency and training.

    This was helpful - I had such a difficult time potty training Trixie Truffles to go outside (at about 13 weeks old) - instead of having accidents in her kennel when I was at work. I got spoiled by her 'sister' Lottie Polka Dottie (& their brothers Shag & Scoob at 5 mos) - who was trained (at 7.5 weeks old) from day one of adoption! Now, at 6 months, TT has finally gotten the hang of it - for the most part and goes outside and not in her kennel or in her play space/room in the house. They are so funny ^_^

      Doubt it...cows eat grass and poop all day long...they may be able to come inside for just a little while right after you see them poop and pee, but I'd time how often they generally do both before trying that. Unless mini cows are way different than regular cows.

    Hi! Loved your video and advice. I can't seem to open the link for the pig supplies you recommend. Any tips on how to access it? Also, our little guy Barney turned a year in October. We got him in august and he was fully potty trained and oh so smart. Anyways, first he just had access to too much area and the pen that I got couldn't hold him in. So he started peeing in the other room. So I added a small litter box over there that used to be used for cats. It wasn't quite big enough so he started getting lazy and leaving his back feet out (which meant that he missed... a LOT). We got a larger box and that took a while to switch back to getting all the way inside. I thought we were clear (other than if I put rugs on the floor he wants to pee on them). A month later though, he's gone back to peeing with back legs out of the box or just standing next to it and peeing. Especially if the box is just cleaned he doesn't want to go in it and if the box is a day old or more he doesn't want to but it isn't consistent enough to think that's the reason. Sometimes he just won't go in it. I'm not home all day long to let him in and out and don't want to make him an outdoor only pig. I'm not sure how to get him to use it properly again... Do you think I need an even bigger box? He was trained with a box and pine pellets and it's seemed to work fine until now. Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm not sure confining him to a smaller space will help because he still makes it to the box he just won't get all the way in. But I'd like to check out the pens you use and can't open link :) Thanks!

    Good pointers. I use a large litter box(actually storage bin)with the pad inside it on my back porch. 6th floor. And one pad in litter box in her pen. Just helps keep the poop and pee contained a little. Also have a large pad in my bathroom because she always follows me in there and she shares that with our poodle. She is 8 months and does pretty well though sometimes she pushes the porch litter box and poops behind it. Lol, it’s concrete floor so I don’t mind that oopsie. Love your videos about pigs. I find them helpful.

      She has a great idea for that...a litter box or even a shallow storage container (meant for under the bed etc...) with an entrance cut in the front. Their aim is seriously lacking so having that little wall around it helps!

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  5 років тому +1

      I wouldnt call it instinct, it's more about correcting them and making the place the pad is seem like the best option in the beginning. They're clean by nature and will be inclined to use the area that isn't near their bed or feeding area. Once they get tin the hang of the pad then you can start slowly moving it around or put them in new areas and they'll generally return to wherever a pad is placed.

    I just bought a pig from the flea market and I literally know nothing about pigs at all. My mom wants to house break it and make it to where it goes outside all the time but idk how we will do that because every time we pick him up he screams and squeals and we need to put a harness on him because he night get out of our back yard. I am literally hopeless.

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  5 років тому +1

      It'll take awhile before picking him up doesn't scare him. I have a video about how to build a good relationship with new, scared piglets. I would focus mostly on that for the first bit. Once they trust you the training becomes much easier! Teaching a piglet to only go outside is possible, but challenging because they can't hold it for long. I normally suggest a mixture of going outside AND using a potty pad inside. You'll want to create a small safe space for the piglet - a pen or small room.

      I have a few that aren't super motivated to go outdoors either. They tend to outgrow it and beg to go out and forage as they get older and more confident. In the meantime I still make them go out for a little while each day to root around a bit and get nutrients!

    I have a beautiful little lady pig. She is 3 months old and will not stop eating her potty pads. I then tried pine wood shaving and she eats those as well. She for some reason is eating everything I try. she is also consistently using the restroom in that location. Which from what I read is something pigs don’t do. I have yet to read about anyone with this issue. I would love some insight on what I could do to try to fix this issue. Thanks! Also teaching her the word NO seems like it’s going to be a near impossible task. I’ll accept insight on that as well haha thank you!

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  5 років тому +1

      I would suggest switching to the faux turf potty pads! Relatively cheap on Amazon. I like to keep two so I can take one outside and hose it off! Tearing up/eating/using pads for bedding is quite common. I had a lot of luck using the potty pad holders to lock the pads in place but ultimately prefer the turf pads (better for the environment).
      Definitely be strict about teaching. They try hard to be the dominant one, and essentially train you. It's just a nuisance when they're young, but can end up being dangerous when they're older/bigger if they don't respect you. I make a huge ruckus when I'm scolding them if they don't listen the first try...foot stomping in their direction, hand clapping, letting them know I mean it and I am in charge (similar to what Mom pig does).

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  5 років тому

      The small space has generally worked best for me. They want to be cleanly so they won't go where their sleeping area is or their food/water bowls. Have those areas and a space for the potty area. You're essentially not leaving him any other choice but TO go where you've selected. If he's left with too much free space while not being monitored he's very likely to go anywhere he pleases.

      @@tiffanyburns6905 I would try soaking them in the milk if that's what your pig likes...slowly lessen the amount of milk until your pig will eat them dry. The pellets turn to mush when wet...so start with them extra wet, each feeding use less liquid. I just got a 6 week old today and the pet shop was feeding them pellets moistened with water and tortillas shredded mixed in. They couldn't tell me why they added tortillas (I'm guessing to make it appetizing) but that sounded fishy to me, so I'm here trying to see what they really need. Its always impressive how high they can jump! I'm guessing either she gets stressed, OR she gets mad at you for paying attention to anyone who isn't her, and that's why she goes potty where she shouldn't. Do you have a room you could set her up in temporarily? A bathroom or laundry room normally work well. Just make sure she has a nice comfy spot and some things to keep her entertained!

      Adri Rachelle she hates being in a room with a closed door where she can't see, it's the only time she poops in the house is when she closes the door on herself when she is in a room. Ha! We have a really wide hallway and my boyfriend is gonna make a gate that hopefully she won't jump over. I think she will be comfortable there, it's still lots of space but not too much compared to just letting her have free range in the house. I think she just has too much space out in the house and that's why she potties where she isn't supposed too. Our living room and kitchen are huge and open and i never realized that it could be too much for her to handle! And i think she gets lazy like you said!
