    There's actually a really cute/cool reason why the starter decks are going to be so cheap. Each deck will cost 333 Yen and they will release it in 2 waves in Japan, 3 in the first, the other 2 later. So the 3 decks will be 333x3 which is 9 threes. 3 in Japanese is pronounced san and 9 is kyu
    so together it is San Kyu or Thank you. It's a thank you from Bushiroad to their players for it's 10th anniversary

    These start decks get 4 copies of important cards with one copy being foil.
    The real problem with Vanguard is their formats. Getting a 3rd format when they could hardly support 2 previously is going to be real hard to play since it divides the community on what formats people want to play.

    So far on the product schedule there isn't any product only supporting 1 of the 6 nations, the Bermuda Triangle nation (Lyrical Monasterio) will probably get one but they don't get main booster support. Over the past 3 years Vanguard has moved away from entire decks of name based cards as well, we sometimes get a few cards that support one particular boss card though. Vanguard also has a new director in charge of it who previously worked for Wizards on MtG and apparently singlehandedly saved shadowverseCCG so the new changes are part of his we're told "10 year plan" for Vanguard.
    Start deck contents seem to be about the same as previous more expensive trial decks with a few less foils (1 instead of 4 or 5), key cards appear to be at 4 copies, other cards that are usually less useful (we're not 100% sure yet though) are at 3 copies.

      Yeah but with larger card pools, it’s inevitable we will get large archetypes similar to YGO. V managed to avoid it because clans were already essentially archetypes and Bushi knew how to design better by that point.

      if you want a really fast tldr basically he decided to criticize the game but failed completely by attacking the game for the wrong reason. he also blew a fit on a kid too due to anime related reasons as well which made his standpoint much worse.
      here's the long explanation:
      Basically he criticized the game but the bulk of it was due to the anime. If he criticized how the marketing was done because let's be honest as much of a fanboy I am for cfvg I will absolutely agree that bushiroad is garbage at marketing (vanguard zero sucks too but not going there) or the gameplay loop itself as it is heavily luck based at many times (shivers in quadruple heal triggers on first draw and mulligan) it would have been completely fine if he criticized the game's element itself or had at least read up on the rules of the game (something most other commenters have noted that a quick google search is enough for) but he decided to unfairly criticize the game via the anime and it eventually went to the stupidity of criticizing the story for being a slice of life story or having very low stakes throught its first seasons which was what set cardfight vanguard apart from the other anime for me but hey everyone's tastes are different so who am I to judge (that and I feel like stories where they have super high stakes are the worst when it comes to animes based on games because the victories become predictable, something that made Arc-V and shows later really bad, it was also something 5D's was criticized for) and then decided to rag on it for the "is that card from the pack that just came out?" line and decided to twist it into indoctrination, he also blew over a massive fit over a kid saying that line though apparently he lost and the kid won so the proper context isn't even there because he lost even though he got the new card so the kid probably asked a genuine question and then he twists it into "them animus are indoctrinating kids" when the kid has a very visible sad face and I mean kids are very impressionable and he was likely standing and was towering over the kid when he had his fit at him which is also another explanation for the kid's expression.

    • @nekoluxuria7721
      @nekoluxuria7721 3 роки тому +3

      @Nill Null I define a fit as negative over reaction so I will take that. though the presumption of towering over the kid is what likely happened because he's taller than the kid as he is an adult and the kid was not older than 12 by his own admittance, and he straight out talked down on the kid for no legitimate reason.
      I say that because he left a bit of context as the pack just came out and the kid had just won completely and then talked about the card (he won 0 sets after all) that and the context doesn't match the quote and the kid would have seen the card mid game and would have likely said the quote mid game if that was his aim but he did it post game. that and his claim of "vanguard completely ruined card games for me" is either him over reacting or he did say more than "did you just quote the dumbest line in the show"

    Rebirth for you is a remake of an older Bushiroad game called Victory Spark and Chaos died a few years ago after about a 10 year run? The starter decks for Vanguard have 3-4 copies of every card, the only real concession seems to be that only 1 card in the deck will be foil, but they're gonna release a set that has 10 new cards (you only need to buy 4 boxes to get a playset of all the new cards) and foil reprints of all the starter deck cards, so I imagine the starter deck cards are actually going to be good.

    so i am a massive vanguard stan so i am just gonna try clear a couple things up while being as impartial as possible. 1. a lot off the changes are probably due to the new producer keita mori, the man who saved esports in japan and has worked on shadow verse credited as saving them from the worst meta off all time and also worked for wizards off the coast on magic the gathering. 2. the trial decks are coming with 4 offs and 1 foil card so yes if you want to max it you might off had to buy 4 but also at the same time we are getting a set with sp versions off the trial deck cards for the true whales (as well as new cards obv). trial decks are also retaining original packaging to show off the boss unit. its also the first time the cheap price has been brought over to the west as far as i am aware so that good :). 3. you are correct on the subclans we have already seen dark states start deck looks very much like the spike brothers clan, one off them looks like great nature, and the first set also looks to contain link joker and granblue style cards.
    Personally i am excited the change should for a lot more creativity and mori has been super engaged with the community on twitter especially the west which makes me very happy cause it felt like western fans would be ignored sometimes. i will still have my favorite clans (in particular in the eternal format premium) but also a little apprehensive cause i like palemoon in dark states but not really the other 3 so will be interested to see just how integrated the decks become.

    Clan mixing didn't get broken until Legion Mate. And it got broken there because they all of a sudden stopped printing any clan restrictions.
    It is completely desperation, the 1st reboot was overall a flop and sales have been dropping basically its whole run, but that's more the result of power creep and boring card design, instead of clan bloat, so this might not fix that at all.

    As someone who regularly plays Vanguard (I even went to regionals in the before times), I appreciated your critique of the game itself and showed me how someone could dislike it beyond “it’s a game for weebs” (especially as I don’t even like it for weeb reasons and not a fan of Bermuda myself). I feel it’s important for someone to know the flaws in something they like so as to not be so militant in defending it. It’s just a game, after all.

I literally can’t even think of a way for them to justify another hard rotation beyond money.

    Desperate more like too little too late. Many stores won't be continuing Weiss and Vanguard past V. The biggest Weiss vendor just went out of business. I look at distributor sites and none of these start decks have sold out. They will very likely just going to be sitting on shelves like Weiss Trial decks. You still likely need half a case anyways for a playset. The real issue with Bushiroad are the solo print runs. A card will get one printing and that is it. fun fact about the starter decks since you mentioned them. they are 333 yen and are split 3-2 since 3 in kanji is san and 9 is kyuu since the number 3 would appear 9 times it's said as san kyuu which sounds like thank you, they likely did that 3-2 starter deck split because it's Vanguard's 10th aniversary so they want to say thank you to the playerbase

    I'll be honest, I kind of don't like the softer clan boundries - one of my favourite things about vanguard was, well, each deck getting a distinct playstyle, rather than mush every good card together into a more consistent and powerful but genericly grey and uninteresting deck, and merging them together just... works against that; like sure, there will probably be dragon empire cards that echo narukami and kagerou, but kagerou always worked better, so the pressure will be to use the kagerou-equivelants, even if you mght still want the 1-2 narukami boss cards
    I'll admit that part of my feelings come from being in an area where vanguard is big nd in easy demand, and the fact me only being interested in a small number of clans meant I only needed to buy vanguared every few months to still be in a playable state for casual play - not meta play since powercreep is a feature, but enough to play casually and still have a chance - meant I could keep up with it without massive investment and have it there as a side game. changing it up so the meta for each clan changes every booster means it's no longer a game I can just duck out of buying for a while, but one that you do need to pay attention to for every set
    that and bushi also has a bad habit of making each support for a deck (in all their games, not just vanguard) more 'replace your entire deck with these new ones. they're the same card but better' over 'these are new options for that deck and sure they have a higher power cieling but your old cards still work' and the cynical side of me is just reading this as "mwahahaha now *everyone* has to replace their entire deck each booster, not keep their deck for the year and a half and then change it. we're geniuses"

  • @yakitatefreak
    @yakitatefreak 3 роки тому +2

    The video is quite interesting to say the least.
    But I think that while there is going to be a foil card, quality may suffer as @Kodhok says. The main reason is that similar to the foiling on the Majesty Lord Blaster deck and the Clan Selection in English, the foiling may have a coating to give that glossy almost fake feel to the cards as opposed to the classic matted finish.
    As funny as it sounds, glossy coatings are an easy way to make cards shinier without having much added cost when compared to a standard foil. But when done poorly, these glossy coatings leave a terrible impression on the raw card(s) themselves as I tend to single sleeve frequently, relatively speaking. The texture of the new shiny cards from Clan Selection feel fake to me, even if the product is genuine.
    There was always a familiar card texture associated with a certain rarity until it changes. The foil pattern came and went, but the texture was always consistent until recently. I will always dislike LR cards for that exact reason. Not only did texture feel abrasive, but the familiar foiled cards felt so brazenly foreign to me. That also affected how I received cards with too much gold in the background as this was the first rarity change that happened.
    To this day, I still don't like cards with gold borders for messing with my mind on card texture and the perceived level of being genuine, even though logically the cards are. It also explains why I do not mind SP and VR cards, but dislike SVR, SCR, and other rarities with a gold border surrounding the entire card, oddly enough. But for sure, quality is an issue that I feel like you have nailed on point.
    The only other time I've experienced something in a similar manner with a major shift in card texture was when Yu-Gi-Oh had Duel Terminal cards back in the 2010's with that shiny pattern. There may have been cards such as Royal Decree with a similar texture, but the experience wasn't there for me until the early 2010's which is why I think that card texture can be addressed.
    As a player of Vanguard, I will say that your criticisms have their merits, but your execution doesn't come off as polished at times because of a certain video that I have also seen ages ago. This time though, your criticism has really delivered on one aspect of game design for sure, but as polished as that segment was, you clearly could have taken a few more minutes to read and sift through the community for more information. Other than that oversight, you do carry out great content.

    They New starter decks actually contain 4 ofs of the majority of the cards (safe for the new trigger type, and new order card introduced for each nation). I do not not recall whether or not Bushiroad is doing their usually foil method of giving out 3-4, one for the main grade 3 and then one for each descending grade but the card quality is said to be the same. The information is still being given out in bits of pieces but there's more to look forward to.

    My thoughts are this: "All Paladins" is going to be fucking disgusting.
    Memes aside, I think that while this is ultimately going to be a good thing for Vanguard, I don't think it's going to solve their problems overnight. There's a LOT of cards in Vanguard that explicitly mention other cards or clan-specific archetypes and abilities (one that comes to mind are Revengers in Shadow Paladin), so you're still going to see a lot of people prioritizing single-clan decks in order to play to the strength of a certain archetype (since that's just generally how Vanguard works). Although, maybe I'm just being incredibly closed-minded about this new development: people were already mixing cards from the original run and from v-series to begin with in their premium format or whatever tf it's called, so I'm sure there's a lot of busted combinations that are going to be possible now because of this as well. Who knows, maybe theres a pair of clan specific archetypes (lets just say Ezels and Battle Sisters for the sake of discussion) that might synergize really well with one another, plus we'd be able to see multiple types of imaginary gifts in a single deck. Hell, i don't think I'm ready for Link Joker, Nova Grappler and Dimension Police to start intermingling. Just the thought of giving those decks more locking capabilities is terrifying to me.
    Oh god, if only Genesis and Dark Irregulars could mix. That shit would be disgusting.
    I still think Vanguard's biggest problem though is going to be it's card prices. Like Yugioh, Vanguard is really fucking expensive to even build decent decks for. Although, who knows: maybe this new development in the rules of the game will result in prices lowering for some reason or another.
    Also, there is a quote unquote "clan" that can be included in any deck period. They're called Cray Elementals, and I have one in my Kagero Rebirth deck.

    As someone who saw the now taken down video, I have to say I'm glad you've calmed down in this video as whilst I didn't agree with your thoughts on the anime or players, game mechanic wise I did agree with most of what you said in that video. A lot of vanguard players have been asking for nation cards and bushi did give us Zeroth Dragons in G format which were Nation based strides.
    However I have now quit Vanguard (although I still love Leon's design Obviously :P). Overdress just reeks of desperation and poor planning. Having another hard reboot is just too off putting and despite them claiming this is the last time they'll reboot I highly doubt it. Power creep is rancid in Vanguard formats too, to the point it makes Yu-Gi-Ohs power creep look like a joke.
    Bermuda triangle is still its own thing which is just exhausting as is dealing with 90% of bermuda players.
    I think its a shame the bushi have a bad handling on their games, vanguard couldv'e been improved and I gave them the benefit of the doubt with V format but they proved they can't design cards well.
    Vanguard also now has 3 formats which is laughable as the 2 formats in V era caused a HUGE split in the player base with very few people actively playing both and each format player base hating on the other. Creating a V only format is just Bushi trying to hold on to the V Playerbase and whilst they are supporting that format, playability wise it'll probably go the way of the dodo.

    Bushiroad seems quite confident in Overdress. They got Mori, an anime from CLAMP, and the aura they are giving off is way different than the announcement of the V series. I think the anime alone will boost the property due to the star power alone.
    I'm a big fan of clan identity, so I hope the nation change can preserve themes to at least feel like your deck has a consistent theme, and not just a hodge podge.
    I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes. The legacy market is also sustaining itself very well, as opposed to absolutely crashing when V series was announced.

    Bushiroad destroys Buddyfight, the original creator left the project because Bushiroad permit the distribution of the overpowered card that he didn't allow it. Joking aside, I guess old collections are pretty much unusable again for Standard. Hoping they gonna do some kind of reprints of old cards with changes to make it legal in the new format but I doubt it.

    Between the referencie of this to this and this being that I am brought back to a time un wich me and a friend we're discussing the diferencia between the noble houses un Harry Potter, and that eventualy somehow culminated un the thought that atributes classes and clans are usually implements 1 or 2 features of diferente sorts in order for our usually distracted brains to justify or set up a conflict based on a subtle form of racism that takes one or two unchangable or intrinsic features of a chracter, piece, or card and villafies their prececense un the Game in perder to create a motivating factor for the player to want to overcome. And so the endind of that conversación was somewhat anwkward but ay the responses on this comment won't do that is a plus I suppose.

      I don't think it's so insidious at that. But the lore of most card games is based around simulating combat, and so they need to have opposing sides in order to justify that. There is no reason why the judicial system and public works department should want to fight to the death, but on Ravnica that's what you get.

My speculation is that his interaction with him doesn’t put him in a good light or he wasn’t a big deal at all and he trying to bloat the situation. He wants to believe that he is public enemy no 1 for vanguard but in reality he is just a dumbass on the internet who has a massive ego.

    • @MrVovoda
      @MrVovoda 3 роки тому

      Not much has changed in term of design : it is still unmixable attributes, there are only less of them, and there's still going to be clan-specific cards that do not interact much outside of their archetype, so the game is probably not going to avoid its pitfalls. The change is however drastic for the players in that it is a new format (with all the problems that come with that), and desperate as Bushiroad wouldn't do this unless they were losing players.

No one would consider that “desperate”, at best they have not considered all their options. In my opinion this change will help the game in the long run because they don’t need to balance 24 clans.

    A few points for record: as someone who has followed Vanguard and Bushiroad for years.
    Number 1: Bushiroad doing a variety of games especially licensed games is nothing new, they've had their hands in a number of different games for years, hell they don't shy away from mobile games, wrestling etc. it's by no means a new phenomena.
    Number 2: Luck and Logic was not really a spiritual successor or poised to replace vanguard it was just another card game, the reason it died (at least in the states didn't bother to follow the OCG...cause y'know other side of the world) was because basically as they were selling the FIRST set they announced Dragoborne would be replacing it. No one bought the second set because the game was already confirmed to longer be supported. In case your curious Dragoborne also didn't last as the fanbase that bought into L&L felt cheated and had very little faith in adition to the mechanics all being heavily luck based.
    I will state for the record I can't stand mixable attributes from a player perspective as they usually do far more harm than good to the state of the game as a whole. I'll concede the monetary point, which is a shame but hey modern economics not supporting enjoyable hobbies isn't exactly new either.
