Friendship Ended with Metazoo

- I know my channel isn't supposed to feature any "drama", and I was waffling about posting this video, but with the sheer number of Crypto-pushers in my DMs due to my early support of Metazoo, I feel I need to make my position on Crypto absolutely clear.
PO Box instructions: • PO Box is OPEN!!
To redeem for a signed copy of Light Aura(Inti Token/Fan Art version), send the card (In a plastic top-loader) along with a POSTAGE PAID return envelope, and a booster pack from the game of your choice per card you want signed. Failure to abide by these means I will keep the card to send to relatives.

What happened?
@@naomicoffman1315 Metazoo will be discontinued.
@@niklasl3880Ah, thank you; I'd somehow gotten the impression that there was something else.
Thanks Kohdok. You're a man of character for saying this. Good on you.
If you wanted to be really salty you could turn this into an Errata Text episode about the dangers of hype bros and overvalued markets in card gaming
Yes this! I remember the life decking episode for Bakugan.
I did this in my Player Taxonomy video when I introduced "The Jimothy".
It takes a big person to go against the money for the principle. Glad to see you are against the crypto direction
It doesn't though? Like, aside from a few rich and stupid people, 99% of the rest of the internet seems pretty unified in their hatred of them. Just look...anywhere.
@@emmastarr5242 I don’t like NFTs either but maybe that’s because I don’t fully understand them, all I know is I grew up researching Cryptids and collect the cards and grade them because I legit find it interesting, I also like that they have transparent limited print runs.
@@pokemenace They’re environmentally dangerous AND probably a ponzi scheme, while being rife with scams and unregulation! What's not to hate? Don't be a sympathizer - otherwise you'll just end up looking like a Trump-worshipping Republican't. @_@
He said he sold off his collection! Looks like he took the money to me
It doesn’t tho, anyone with a functioning brain can see crypto and NFTs are just the new “buy the Brooklyn bridge” or “buy a piece of the moon” scam.
Ooof it's such a shame to hear about Metazoo sinking into all of this NFT weirdness. Games should be games and not vehicles to extract as much money as possible from their players.
It's fine for niche hobbies to be expensive, but they shouldn't promise their customers that they'll somehow make more money than they put in
I mean games need to make money to be able to still be games but making a literal ponzi scheme shows pure greed
@@herrabanani Huh. Where did they promise them that they will make money? Sounds like you are just making things up as this would lead to legal action if such a "promise" was made.
Metazoo was never a game.. it was alpha investment and other youtubers scamming people. They want to see how far they could go by putting crap art on it lol
NFTs are a dangerous lose/lose proposition. Im glad you chose integrity. Its too bad Meta Zoo didn't. I was thinking of getting into it.
I was interested in at least a card pack or two. Now I'm gonna stay back since NFTs are stupid (I mean, who really wants what amounts to a string of code with a PGN that's "attached" to it?)
I'd still check it out. You don't have to agree with every single decision a company makes in order to enjoy the product. I also think it would only be fair to listen to mikes side of the story here as he literally provided no proof of his discord conversations. I am not a fan of NFT's but the people wanted them, and bought them. The new Seance set looks dope and I hope you check it out.
I'm happy to see you stick to your morals and speak out. NFT suck and the sooner that we can see this fad over the better off we all are.
I appreciate you making this video, I know this probably feels like you've made a mistake getting involved with MetaZoo, but to me this shows that you have a passion for game making and integrity about how they are managed. I have been through similar scenarios in my life, but while you walk away with a bitter taste in your mouth, know that such actions reflect well on your character and show you have an uncompromised vision for what you want to create.
this aged like wine
Made a post warning folks about Metazoo allllllll the way back in November during the whole Mothman NFT fiasco. Left them a polite comment on their post telling them that it was a bad move and they should reconsider and they deleted it, then deleted the comment I posted afterwards when I noticed not just mine but MOST of the critical comments under that post were being deleted. Messaged them asking for a statement on why that was happening and they never even read it, lol. Has only gotten worse since.
Good on you for pulling back and choosing integrity over buying into all this crypto and NFT bullcrap, major respect for you. So sad to watch in real time as this thing went from a neat novelty card game to a hypebeast that could not give a crap less about the people that brought it success in the first place. Sad as Hell.
Bro I've never seen you before but the algorithm put you in front of me. I really like the clarity and the way you talk truth about things. New sub here!
Very happy to see you stick with your morals. There’s a lot of people I’ve seen supporting the whole NFT part of this game (can it be called a game when it’s goal it’s just to be used as an investment?)
To note: I’ve read cases of people that got the redeemable tokens not being able to actually use them for it’s purpose, they wouldn’t get any products with them because the product was already sold out. And when they tried to ask what happened there, they’d get blocked and their comments removed.
>Just had 250k in person tournament
>"can it be called a game when it’s goal it’s just to be used as an investment?"
That is not exactly what happened but okay

I traded my sealed MetaZoo stuff for Unlimited Dual Lands in the fall
man kohdok you called this shit out MONTHS BEFORE coffeezilla caught wind of it, talk about being ahead of the game.
I was confused and thought there was drama with tierzoo the UA-camr
Tierzoo vs Kohdok the next great UA-camr boxing match
Me too for a moment. I'm glad I wasn't the only one.
Damn dude. They turned to the dark side.
This is really great of you. I knew something stank with them when they blocked anyone with any slight criticism.
Man i just got into metazoo at wilderness and yea.. idk all they do is release new limited run stuff for people to scalp and it seems like they are just using the game to make people buy random stuff
you want this set, you have to get a bunch of random pins.
you want this set, you gotta buy this shirt,
you want this set.. you gotta buy a cd...
oh and btw each set is gonna have like 15 plus cards and your gonna get like 3 cards max per random item you bought.
Glad to see you being able to make such a hard decision to move away from something you were involved in because it crossed a moral boundary of yours. And to be honest Metazoo going down this road felt like it was writing on the wall. It had so many red flags from the get go and every time I learned something new they did (the NFTs, the reserved list, the endless barrage of fomo limited products) a chorus of Admiral Ackbars went off in my head screaming "It's a SCAM!".
Yes we these "red flags"... marketing. You know something that every successful business does. If they just sat there and printed cards no one would even know who they are. Now they have a lot of attention. For example like this shmuck feeling the need to make a dramatic video for no reason. If everyone starts making videos about every single thing they don't like at work we would be flooded with useless videos like this one.
lol. lmao@@silverwolf6866
Not all heroes wear capes!
Ouch, that's rough. But good for you. Don't be seen even slightly in support of such a destructive and scammy endeavour.
It's such a small market made up of only dopes and scammers, that even in the long run, its not viable.
That the market keeps collapsing in on itself, and such they're 'worth' so much, that its just at this point a violate game of hot potato for these NFTs - one that is going to keep boiling to fever pitch as the IRS keeps closing further and further in on these groups...
After all, the blockchain says they're worth tons of money, you're supposed to be taxed after all...
Funny to see you in the wild online, thanks for all you did/do with Sprites Inc!
@@StirlingDuncan Hah, hi there! Thanks! Yeah I'm still around.
I follow quite a few board game/card game UA-camrs since that's also a passion of mine.
It’s always sad to see a game failing but good on you to get out. Your Metazoo content was always pretty neat but good to be able to turn the page
I'm coming here AFTER the FTX debacle. Lots of youtubers could learn a thing or two from you about integrity.
I got into Metazoo about a month ago because it was new, has a classic feel to it, and I wanted to get into TCGs (not one that has been developed for 20+ years). Then now I’m learning about how people are buying 30+ of these Revive Boxes (where tf is the limit?) leaving most of us casual collectors/players left looking in the #pull-channel as people open massive amounts of these limited print run boxes just to flip them for profit. A Metazoo Board would look awesome on my wall but not spending 3x MSRP on something that had just released and sold out in 2 minutes.
DAMN this aged like wine
I love the whole cryptozoology angle of the game and the 4th wall mechanics, but the crypto selling put a very sour taste in my mouth. I kept getting discord DMs trying to sell me NFTs, and it was to the point where I left the server.
One small correction. NFTs aren’t collectibles. From my understanding they’re more so the receipts for the collectible, and people paid an absorbent amount just because celebrity XYZ could have their name on the receipt. So glad they’re basically gone
I was in the metazoo discord for over a year, and a few months ago I finally left, it was pretty sad to see the game slowly become a scam, since when it was first announced I tough it looked super fun...
It's still around and between Topps Chrome and native is doing great. Funny how when the minority of negative people leave they think they'll have an effect. I'm still having a great time with Metazoo 🥳

This is why I respect you and your channel. Thanks for the great content
And this is why we will be coming to you very soon for our project.
I hugely appreciate this. I got into metazoo after seeing your video initially and man it just grew worse and worse and it shows great integrity to drop them like this. Mad respect
You are probably going to get flamed by a small amount of people really in denial about NFT. Don't let them get to you.
Sad thing is 95% of the comments in this video aren't even talking about the NFTs. They are literally just using this as a means to justify them calling the game garbage. Sad sad days. Internet is a joke.
A children's table holds my dinner better than a jpeg of a table.

Crazy that this was only 1 year ago, feels like a lifetime
Would love a video update.
Would really like one now.
Really sucks you had to go through all that. But yeah, NFTs and cryptocurrency suck, and I wouldn't want to be involved in anything that used either of them.
One thing we can say that Meta Zoo will undoubtedly do in the end, is give the TCG community a learning experience.
Thanks for speaking your mind. Love that the general knowledge on how bad NFT's actually are is being more wildly repeated.
Friendship ended with Metazoo
Now Sorcery: Contested Realm is my best friend
not sure it is a good thing that ppl treat tcg as investment, most of them not even know how to play the card games, just purely crack booster packs and sell the valuable cards.
Thank you for standing up for your principals and holding standards for what people deserve in games.
will you be reviewing any more of the new tcgs coming out? I really enjoy those videos from you.
Are there any ways for companies to avoid investors from overtaking things like this? Or is it just unavoidable if enough people have eyes on your game?
Simply don't go public. This does mean self-funding (or Crowdfunding), but there are plenty of companies that never go public and remain "Family owned" as it were. You have more creative freedom when you aren't beholden to shareholders, but also more open to liability and losses, so it's a give and take.
This might be the dumbest comment of the century. I don't know of any company that actively wants to avoid interest and investors. You do realize the goal of literally every business is to make something called money right?
@@silverwolf6866 People who do not want to cede control of their business to investors because they have a vision they do not want altered and wish to maintain control are the sorts who don't take on investors.
Like I said, they still make money, but the full control of their business takes on the risks of liability to do so.
@@silverwolf6866 the investors will come regardless I was more meaning scalpers specifically, who have the ability to ruin a game's ability to get a foothold if the casual playerbase is unable to get any of the cards
@@littlemisspipebomb4723 As dumb and as simple it might seem, print more product. That's what Pokemon did for the 2020 Scalp fest. The more supply you print, the more likely you can meet demand. That's why Chronicles copies of cards from MTG pale in comparison to their OG printings.
A local game store I go to just started stocking these, should I tell them that it’s tied to nfts?
Yeah, I figured that the game wasn't going to go anywhere once I saw how much the designer worked with the TCG finance channels.
Nothing against them personally but to me it says "I care about the money more than making a good game".
Glad to see you sticking with your morals!
Making a casual tcg was always going to be a dumpster fire imo. If you want a casual card game do a one and done type of thing. All tcgs need a competitive aspect to function, that player base is what gives cards values and let the business model work.
It's a real shame metazoo has hit a downward spiral, but it shows me what not to do whenever my own homemade TCG is finished.
Dang. this start out like Kohdok Apology Video
4:15 "It had fungibility... which is something that most NFTs (non-fungible tokens) don't have"

I knew metazoo was a predatory model to begin with. They prayed on fomo with first edition prints on a game that you even said was borderline unplayable. Doesn’t surprise me they went this route. Glad you see through the meta zoo zham
Nah the launch wasn't intentional

Fucking NFTs. This is a huge disappointment. Damn apes ruin everything they touch.
very respectable opinions kohdok!
A youtuber not pushing nfts!! Whaaaaaa
Man you did the right thing. I also don't support NFTs, but this isn't even limited to that. Games already take a lot of time and effort to make and sell, why tie it all down with some money making scheme.
I'm not surprised a game that is essentially launched in partnership with that one particular investment channel went down the NFT route.
Really respect this
The whole NFT thing really turned me off.
Curious what the next cope will be. Early criticisms of the gameplay were met with accusations (pretty wishful ones btw) that these criticisms were made out of a fear that metazoo would grow to the point that my cards in the big 3 would be devalued.
T_T bud, Wixoss is the most fun I have had playing a tcg in awhile and its now the only thing I play besides commander. This game that is backed by Tomy money, with several acclaimed tie-in shows...is only sold by 2 gameshops in my state.
Imagine the absolute arrogance of saying "you're just criticizing this game because it might dethrone these other games that have spent *DECADES* building up extremely dedicated fanbases! Yep, we came in and just knocked them all down on our first try and now you're trying to stem the tide!"
It's ridiculous, it's ludicrous, and it's delusional. The only way you "beat" the Big 3 is by going back in time and stopping them from getting made in the first place.
So No Shipping, No NFTs. They kill a community.
Tons of people in the video game community can't stand NFTs. I would have thought Aoki and Mike would have seen tons of studios pull back from their NFT plans because of how strong the backlash were. That was last year I guess they want to sport like the .05% of collectors out there who own NFTs or want to own a NFT.....
I love MetaZoo and could care a less about the NFT aspect, MetaZoo’s success is not based on NFTs, a vast majority of MetaZoo collectors and players do not own NFTs and don’t plan to. NFTs in MetaZoo are no different than an extra topping on a pizza, I mean if you don’t like onions then don’t order them or just take them off and enjoy the rest of the pizza.
Yeah. At first it was an issue cause it seemed thats all Mike cared about and was catering to. He has since pulled back and focused on everybody again. As dumb as I think these profile things are I just don't really care about it. If you want to waste your money on that then so be it. It's not like MZ is shoving them down anyone's throat.
Exactly, if you don't like the NFT portion of MetaZoo then don't buy them it's not complicated lol
Friendship with Metazoo is over
Now WiXoss is my new friend
Can't believe how things have changed this drastically. Morals >
From the very start MetaZoo always looked like they wouldn't mind feeding into toxic scarcity economy if it earned them big money, so seeing them go full into NFTs wasn't a big surprise, but absolutely kudos to you Kohdok (Kuhdoks?) for sticking with your principles. Nothing but respect for my TCG Moses.
TCG Moses? Get off your knees...
@@MrAfterword It's just a joke about his series on tcg design sins, get that stick out of your ass.
It's a shame, because there was once a cool theme with some fun ideas.

Repeat after me "Metazoo is not a kids game" 😏
The game also isn't good, if anything, the charm of the 4th wall is the only thing it's got going for it. It reminds me of Bakugan there; full of charm but the actual game is rather poorly made.
Kudos on the integrity.
At the end of the day mike was giving you crocodile tears on the whole nft situation. They will never change. Mike will milk his player/collector base for every cent he can get then the game will die out leaving a lot of people financially screwed. Mike will deflect the blame and rudy is the scumbag that will push the game and have cards made of him but won't spend a dime on collecting and the box opening have been maybe 6 total since cryptid nation which means the person pushing the game dosen't have enough faith to put his money where his mouth is.
IT’S ABOUT TIME
Proud of you bro
InB4 NFT's become an 8th Deadly Sin of Card Games.
I love metazoo as a game, but mike is kind of a douchebag. He was super sensitive about any kind of criticism and now he's fully embraced the crypto bros. Not just with the nfts and constant promos, but merch specifically to appeal to them. They've done very little for the players, most of the big tournaments people bring up aren't even put on by metazoo, but caster society which is a fan made organization

Asking from your viewers a pack of cards, for you to do something you already agreed to do is kind of weird. Sidenote: good on you for going against crypto scams 👍
Most people who allow mail-in autographs tend to require a merch purchase for that to happen. $4 is frankly a steal. Or less, I never specified WHICH game the pack should come from.
Happy to see you practice what you preach!
NFT: No, F@#$ That.

New eighth cardinal sin: NFTs (duh).
Really happy to hear your stance on this. Meta Zoo seems like such a fall from grace that could of had it all, but got swept up into the crpyto scene. I was really excited to see to come to NZ and get some product because of your videos, it seemed like it would be such a fun afternoon with my friend opening a box and making a deck just to casually play, but seeing the first NFT drop made my heart sink. I wanted out before any product even made it to New Zealand. The 20's has been such a ride for TCGs, for better or for worse. Hopefully something else might fill the gap, but a "casual collectible TCG" seems...hard to nail Like Meta Zoo was. Thanks for sticking to your guns.
I used to be very sad that I couldn't find any place in My country that could sell this tcg. Guess it was a blessing in disguise, I'm glad I wasn't able to support them. Sorry about this man, it has to be a heavy blow.

@@Kohdok I guess I'm just not very knowledgeable about nfts and what the issues are. Big fan btw
NFTs arent bad persey but their model attempts to monetize everything the game was supposed to be about. Which was a shame, MetaZoo's charm was undeniable and it was a cute little game to play with friends at locals. So sad.
