I reload mine from a loop belt that holds 12 gauge shells. From the belt, which holds 25 shells, I grab out three, kept between the fingers of my right hand. First shell is inserted in the chamber, chamber closed and locked, with two shells remaining between my fingers. Shotgun fires, cycle out the expended shell, next shell ready to go in. When I've used up the shells in my hand, I extract three more shells from the belt. Does take some practice to get the muscle memory down to where it's done without even thinking about it.
Was cleaning out my uncle’s safe and found one of these in .410. I also found a double barrel break action that belongs to my dad in 20 gauge and a pump action in 20 gauge as well. I’m gonna clean them up and take em to a smith to have anything broken repaired and surprise the two of them for Christmas with their restored guns. Great video sir!
My first shotgun was an Iver Johnson 20 gauge, full choke. I wasn't good at fast reloading, but learning to hunt with that gun, taught me to make sure that the first shot is the one that counted. Great little gun. I bought it used for $20 and it and they threw in a bag of high-brass. That would have been 56 years ago. I still have it.
Thank you. I recently bought a single shot and this did make me laugh. It will get the job done. Don't really need the crazy guns of today. Most people are not in xtreme combat situations. Thanks again. 😊
Place shells in between fingers on non-trigger hand with brass towards palm when hand closed. Push shells into barrel with thumb after expended shell ejected. Easy with practice. Been doing it for over 50 years.

Absolutely...i have an old JC Higgins that i placed a 2 shot saddle on as well as do the mouth technique. Gives me about 7 shots before rummaging though my pockets or carrier. Not just a southern thing as for im a city boy from Boston MA. Been doing that trick since the 70s, since my first time shooting it. Yes I still have it and it still runs smooth. And like you said, Id grab that in a home defense situation over my 870 pump or benelli semi. Or even over the Mossberg that was my "home defense 12 gauge" purchase. Just because of the simplicity and the stealth of the single "click" of the hammer. Yes racking a pump makes people sh!t themselves but gives of a sound of tour location as well as gets whomever ready if they are armed as well. The JC Higgins 101.1(Savage 94) its just dang better off in that type of situation. Hopefully i would never need more than 3 shots in my home for an intruder/intruders. Great video. I'm 67 now and I will never forget the times we had shooting quail and dove in and around our corn and soybean fields. Thanks for the video it brought back some great memories.
When I was young at 12 years old in the year 92' my dad taught me to shoot with a 20 gauge single shot he had showed me to aim shoot and after the shot was done, hit the breaking button let it drop down and at the same time reaching in my pocket and load another and as you raise the rifle you already have the hammer bulled back so when you are looking down the sight pull the trigger. I used that method and i did out shoot some people while skeet shooting. But i am meaning this to share and help.

This was great. Some years ago, a friend lent me his 28 guage shotgun to go dove hunting with. It was a double barrel, and later I asked my father to find me one in that caliber. He found a single shot. I forget the brand. Anyway, I've wondered ever since why I went ahead and got a single shot, but with this, it answers the problem. I love a single or double barrel shotgun and use the insurts for a 12ga. 20ga.410ga. .45/70govt.and a 30-30 I get asked all the time what is the best shotgun for a first time users I tell them a single shot shotgun and they might whant to start out with a 410 ga. Or 20ga. Then get a12ga.
I guess a lot of us at some point, were married to "speed loaders". The disadvantage was that you would have to take them along on that trip and find a way to keep the "loader" closed for the duration of the trip. Others (like myself) would just get rid of that "speed loader" altogether and live a happy, prosperous life.

Yeah, thanks for reminding me of Teddy Roosevelt words. A fellow carting around a 1 barrelled shotgun MUST be good with it! Regards
I am from Pulaski County (Somerset), next door to you. Thanks for your response. I am 68 and like to camp on the North Fork of the Cumberland a few miles above Cumberland Falls.
You're in God's country for sure. Take care
Never would have thought of this I think it's a pretty good technique
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for the chuckle. I needed it tonight.
Glad you enjoyed. The vid was intended to be tongue-in-cheek and glad you got it. Best regards from Ohio
I Got a good laugh .. he seems to be a good man and has a really funny sence of humor good day folks
Thats how we do it in Belize since we use only single action shotguns. Extractors help so much. We are faster than that due to nessecity and alot of practice. Hunting with dogs and using single action is interesting haha
Just dont forget to tie your shoes, I know its unlikley but i wouldnt wanna meet the hard surface of a driveway or rock with a mouthfull of 12 gauges, Primer down.
:)
Hi marsh rat Margaret from Canada I enjoyed your single shot speed loader video my husband uses a cil 12 ga. Single around the yard for whatever needs taken care of and he basically does the same thing you do God Bless America!
Thank you for watching my channel.
Good one one my friend!! Nothing better than an old break barrel shot gun! Take care.....Darryl, AML.
I see space on that stock for a shotgun shell holder
I have a gun similar to yours and I learned to keep a shell between my middle and index fingers with some in my game bag pocket ready to grab and on a good day I’m almost as fast as my buddy with his pump. 🤙🏼
good idea
Thanks for the entertainment...I did have a good laugh, although it was also informative and effective!
Thanks for stopping by my channel.
I could listen to you all day. Thank you for the demo!
Good sense humor mate, subscribed.
Welcome aboard!
Great content 💯 correct 👍🏼 dont mess with the old break barrel. My pop his pop uncles love them and old bolt action 12g. What's nice about it is you can get adapters that are rifle 7 inch rifle tubes to shoot out of your break barrel made in all kinds of ammo. Very versatile and a power house
i agree
that has got to be one of the funniest things I've seen on the internet so far in years
I love this guy.
I like you man! Good job! From Virginia.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you sir im 13 and just me a single shot gun at a local gun store for 79$ and am very happy to run cross this video hopeing to bust some rabbits after deer season thank you sir
HOW DID YOU BUY A GUN AT 13?
I gave my dAd the money
@@blakebeasley2005 You have a cool dad. Give him a high five for me.
Very cool. I had my first shot gun at 9 but it was a 410. I've still got it.
Thanks for the laugh. I hope this message finds you well. 👍
Hope so!
You made me laugh...Born in Morehead KY raised in Mansfield OH...Love them both.
Glad you were entertained. Raised Laurel County, KY. Have lived in Lawrence, Hardin and Montgomery counties in OH. Good people everywhere. Thanks for your support.
I've seen people wedge rounds between their fingers.
You see Tom Selleck in Quigley Down Under use this method during the big shootout scenes.
Well you did make me laugh out loud !!!! But you method is effective ..... and smart !!! Be safe brother
Thanks. I was just goofing off.
Can't say I'd be keen on having a mouthful of shotgun shells in a CQB situation but love the low tech solution regardless. Great vid!
CQB demands a 12 ga. Ha Ha.
I expected something totally different..You are a cool Old Timer...Thanks Marsh Rat..
Why is everybody hating on this good ol boy? this guy rocks. hey marsh rat, can you teach me some campin shit?
Butt sleeves are handy for single shots in my opinion although they hold only a few 12 gauge shells and some brands can be too snug/loose
Nice video. My 14yr old is getting his first single barrel 12gauge for his birthday this week. He is worried about the recoil but he can handle a .308 he is just glad you can load faster instead of needing a double barrel
He shouldn't worry about the recoil at all. To help him out, have him 1st start with a box of No. 9 trap loads (or other low brass rounds). Tell him that you know a guy that used to shoot deer slugs with his single barrel when he was 9. :) Cheers
Marsh Rat
Thanks for the tip he should be fine he is nearly 6 foot and 80kg
he is hoping to get to slugs after he gets used to it and come chasing pigs with me.
I have to admit after watching lots of shotgun videos now I want one as well don’t think he will let me use his to often
I loved it. I've been trying to figure out how to fire faster with a single shot shotgun. By far the best method I've found.
Now work on spitting them directly into the gun.
greeting from southeasat missouri. love this video.
...that's a good lookin' old single shot...
It's great to see a person that doesn't need a 15,00 dollar shot gun and do just fine👍
Good observation. I swapped an old fiddle for it and don't regret it. Thanks
