  • My preferred smartphones are ones that run BlackBerry 10 operating system and I know - who uses BB in 2016? - well I do, and I really enjoy using them. I find them much more productive and simpler to use compared to Android, iOS or Windows 10m.
I tried Priv and I am mostly disappointed in Android and secondly in build quality.

I'd like to address some of your issues that you had with the Priv:
    1. The calendar app. Even mine shows 31 on the app. Not a big deal to me but if it bothers you, there are tons of calendar apps that you could download that may display the date on the icon.
    2. The screen clicking is a known issue and a quick search on the topic would have revealed several videos on the issue and CrackBerry has much information about the issue and possible remedies as well. Also, did you contact BlackBerry or your carrier about getting a replacement for it if it was that bad? They may have been able to replace it for you.
    3. The heat issue. Again, a known issue with the Priv. However, I've noticed, at least on mine, that with the Marshmallow update, the heating issue has pretty much gone away. I had to replace one for overheating before MM came out because it got to about 122 degrees. Maybe your carrier or BlackBerry could have replaced it for you? Were you on MM and still having the issue?
    4. The app drawer and widgets. You're mentioning about the BlackBerry Launcher but you had Nova and Apex Launcher installed. Why not just use those instead? The BlackBerry Launcher is not perfect but it's still a decent launcher nonetheless. Plus, you get keyboard shortcuts with the Blackberry Launcher.
    5. Gallery app: BlackBerry shipped the Priv without a file manager too BUT, there are tons of gallery apps and file manager apps out there in the Google Play store.
    6. Price point. Widely agreed on that the device should have retailed for far lower than what it did. However, you can get them cheaper now and there have been sales with the Priv as low as $299 recently.
I've had the Priv since last November and while I have had my issues with it and had mine replaced several times, I'm enjoying the one I have and it's working great, especially after the recent MM update. Granted, my experience is different than yours but again, I think some research on your part would have revealed all the "issues" that you pointed out with the Priv and also shown you what others have done to resolve them.
BlackBerry got a lot right with this device but they got a lot wrong as well. They're trying though and more devices are coming out over the next several months. Perhaps you'll check those out and maybe one will work better for you.
BB10 is a beautiful and solid OS and should have been shown more love than it was by BlackBerry.

I have to say I LOVE my Priv. I agree it's not as solid state as their previous phones but I'm coming off a Torch with outdated and unsupported apps. it was time to jump off the BlackBerry OS. He must have just had a bad experience with the hardware. mine does not make sound on the corners of the screen. I baby mine with the BlackBerry leather flip case and a perfectly fitted techskin screen protector. As far as the calender icon goes, mine is showing the current day of the month so no problem there.
Yes there are things I miss like the refined and professional look of the BlackBerry OS but that is just a thing of the past now. time to move on. I don't want any other android device since no other manufacturer offers a real keyboard that I've always loved. so for me it is the Priv.

Why do people continue comparing build quality of the Priv to regular slab phones. It's a slider, it's not a solid block, it can't possibly feel like a solid block. There are moving parts. There are just some things that come with the territory of a slider and you can't say it's built badly unless you are comparing to another slider, and the fact is, NO ONE has been able to pull off a slider in this day and age but BlackBerry and that in itself is a feat, and it's as thin as a lot of slab phones. You can't have it both ways. To create a slider as thin as the Priv, it's just not going to feel like a solid-block device. Deal with it or don't buy it.

I love the Priv hands down. But Android is absolutely terrible. One of many things that piss me off is that you have to abbreviate new contact names, otherwise the "error, name too long" appears. What bullshit.
BlacbkBerry should offer a BB10 OS option for the priv.
I dumped HTC because of Android. When I bought my first BlackBerry (Q10), I loved it. Never an issue with the operating system nor the phone. Then moving onto the Classic - absolutely brilliant.
Again, the Priv hardware is awesome. It copped a few drops with only small dents on the edge - expected.
The Android operating system is a massive 100 pound ball and chain. Heavily disappointed with Android, no matter on the hardware manufacturer's OS changes, android is android - absolutely terrible...
