I was born and raised Catholic. It's quite difficult to reconcile our flavor of Christianity with Christian values given the history and current realities of the church. I wonder how far back one has to go in order to find a version of the church that is worthy of our loyalty in faith.

Hi. The Answer is EVERY CENTURY.
Your Catholic Faith is God’s gift to you, how you respond is your gift to Him!
The current reality is that the Church is currently in a Spiritual battle the likes of which has never been seen before. We need you to get off the bench and help us.please
Read: The Secrets of the Holy Face
      By Fr Carney
And any book about Padre Pio
Read them as a child, it’s the only way God can work w us, we are nothing. Then try looking into Maximilian Kolbe and you will never be the same-4 hours invested, you will have a chance to make Angels cry!

No one actually needs a church to develop a closer relationship with their Creator. Fellowship, maybe, but that doesn't need to come from a church.

@@JaySyzdek that’s not what scripture teaches and whatever creditor you’re talking about, it isn’t Christ.
      - Hebrews 10:25 ““Not forsaking our assembly, as some are accustomed; but comforting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching.”
      - “Till I come, attend unto reading, to exhortation, and to doctrine. Neglect not the grace that is in thee, which was given thee by prophesy, with imposition of the hands of the priesthood.”
      ‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭
      - “Obey your Church leaders (εκκλησιαστικούς σας ηγέτες ), and be subject to them. For they watch as being to render an account of your souls; that they may do this with joy, and not with grief. For this is not expedient for you.”
      ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭17‬ ‭DRC1752‬‬
      - “And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican. Amen I say to you, whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, shall be bound also in heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, shall be loosed also in heaven. Again I say to you, that if two of you shall consent upon earth, concerning any thing whatsoever they shall ask, it shall be done to them by my Father who is in heaven. For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
      ‭‭St Matthew‬ ‭18‬:‭17‬-‭20‬ ‭
      - aside from those specific passages, why would Paul write letters about how to select Priests? (Protestants translate Presbyter as “elder” after the gospels, either way though, even still) how would “Episcipis, “Bishops,” select “elders,” (really priests) unless there was a Church that people attended?
No, you are leeching another gospel than what Christ gave the Church and what the Apostles taught. You should search the scriptures and tell me where the causal “fellowship,” without a Church that you’re advocating is explained because it ain’t in the Bible. That might sound very modern and religious, but it ain’t Christianity. Not by a long shot.

I think the title of Pontificus Maximus has much less weight in determining the origins of the papacy simply because it was a title long used by the Caesars of Rome. It was common practice which allowed the emperor to seize control of Rome's religious leadership and influence over the people. I think perhaps the first exclusive usage of the term "pope" ("papa" in Latin and "pappas" in Greek), a common practice by the 9th century, provides a better picture of when the papacy became an official title of the Roman church. It was restricted the Bishop of Rome by the 11th century. Thus I think the papacy grew out of the political machinations of the western bishops in order to gain supremacy over their longtime rivals in the east and by the 9th century, they had largely achieved that.

The Priest beside Jesus and Melchizedek who gain their priets hood through Divinity (Born priest), most of them married and NOT even one. The Bible does not say anywhere, a priest cannot marry and or have children. it is only Paul who a Pagan, who perscecuted christians until his enounter with Jesus on his way to Damascus that suggested (mere self reflection) that, one could serve the Lord better if one MARRY the Church and NOT a woman. His reason I beleive has to do with the challenges that comes with marraige and family as against spiritual leadership. So yes, there are so man children fathered by priest and it is not a new phenomena or an abomination.
Catholic church is the only body of Chrits that is enforcing Paul's caution. It is not a from God, but man's wish.
Recently Pope Francis in speaking about this issue stated the idea of priest not marrying was more on discipline than doctrine but that, he beleive, like a soldier obeys the commands, priest must learn to obey the churchs rulesand regualtions as an institution. In orther words, if you cannot abstain, do not join them. It is not a force.

One of them, a Benedict, actually SOLD the Papal office when he grew tired of the responsibility----the only Pope on record who ever did so....He later had a change of heart when he realized the power he was relinquishing, and bought it back...He proved very difficult to get rid of, and is regarded as having three separate Pontificates---Because so many Popes sprang from the local grandees and urban nobility of Rome, we can trace a blood connection to dozens of Pontiffs---most of whom reigned well before the modern era, when the Counter-Reformation did its best to clean up the worst abuses and corruption of the Vatican....

Ask our Lord Jesus because He said in=
Mathew 16: 18 I also say to you that you are Peter and upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell will never prevail against it. Jesus is the Head of the church, some of the body parts were rotten like Judas. Our Lord Jesus said also; "I am the vine and you are the branches, my Father will prune the bad branches". After several years God the Father pruned this pope out of the vine. Remember time is a concept created by man not God . It took 5 years or a little bit more for God the Father to prune this branch out but to God it was probably a second for HIM because when we think of God, He IS ETERNITY.

I think the reason why churches around the world became so wealthy and powerful, is because. There were many small towns in villages. And everyone knew each others business.
And the Catholic Church exploited this. They did it with the threat of ostracizing or turning the churches congregation on a business or an individual that did not comply with what the church wanted. And that was obedience and money. And the term they use is tithing. Therefore, if you wanted to function in those towns you joined the church if you knew it was good for you.
And then as the churches became more and more powerful, they spread across countries and therefore they became more and more wealthy.
The only salvation they promised was not to get excommunicated by the church and the village or town that people lived in. So in a sense, it was basically blackmail.
