This is the best educative events regarding Hamas I have come across. Thanks, Helena and Rami for organising this. And thanks for inviting Mouin Rabbani, who is surely one of the most knowledgeable, smartest and insightful analysts I have come across. I will surely signpost any person, who wants to learn more about Hamas to this valuable series of webinars. This needs to be seen and heard much more widely.
Thank you so much!!! I just discovered this. I already know a fair amount about hamas, there are so many myths flying around, I appreciate people to take the time to take them seriously and objectively discuss.
The reversal Rabbani applies to the question of the 2 state settlement where Palestinians might question whether *they* can live safely next to a genocidal neighbour is an excellent one. I hope more is made of this point in other fora.
This is something that I've always been concerned about...they have never been safe and they've never been protected. There should have always been an international force assigned to keep the peace and this would have prevented the creeping borders and illegal settlements. I see no reason why anything would change if they made a treaty without this safeguard
Astounding, audacious, and quite insulting to think folks are proposing all other regional states, except for Israel would pay for rebuilding of Gaza. That in addition, Israel would be the ones to rebuild and profit from rebuilding contacts. We cannot allow this to happen. Gazans should choose who rebuild and where their will source materials.
Re Mr Khoury’s last statement to Mr Rabbani I thought the exact same thing when Mr Rabbani said that! It’s nice to see a commentator who doesn’t always have a ready answer to a question. They start sounding like robots.
Check out Electronic Intifada especially Jon Elmer’s presentations to better understand the degree to which the resistance groups within Gaza (approximately 10 according to EI ) are well coordinated in their military operations with Hamas’ military wing, Al-Qassam Brigade, in the lead role.
Freedom for Palestine now Stop genocide now Long live Aaron Bushnell ❤. Ps: i purchased The book Gaza writes back. I cannot wait to read it. I see it on your background.
Your guest made a very very important point that may not be understood by Westerners. Palestine is Islamic Wagf. What is Wagf: This is based on the principle that all property essentially belongs to Allah. the British Mandate of Palestine, a waqf was defined as usufruct state land (or property) from which the state revenues were assured to religious foundations. Jews have the same beliefs and I am sure Christians have the same view. They have to live together or leave. You can’t divide this land. It’s not belong to anyone. They pay to live but land doesn’t belong to anyone but Allah. Look at Shrines in Mekka, Medina, karbala, Najaf, Samerra, Mashhad. Saudi ( wahabism) wanted to demolish shrine of Prophet in Medina. Iran stood firm and declared war if it happens and wahabis back down so far.
"The only reason they exist is on behalf of some nefarious external power." says Rabbani (from the perspective of US/Israel particularly) is one of the most disgusting views of this whole system. As if all Palestinians were born to be is a thorn in the side of Israel, they were born to be pestering other's just trying to get on with their lives. The idea that a child is "tomorrows Hamas", which is so vile to predestin a child to a life of violence. They are simply people. People wanting a safe home, a recognized identity, and acknowledgment of their humanity and human rights they deserve, especially safety and security for their children, like we all do.
Dr. Mo”ein, When was first the Palestinian identity upheld? Please give us historical background with regard to Palestinian identity in modern history.
The key scholar on this topic is Columbia University’s Distinguished Professor of History, Rashid Khalidi, particularly in his book Palestinian Identity: The Construction of Modern National Consciousness (1997). His current NYT bestseller, The Hundred Years' War on Palestine: A History of Settler Colonialism and Resistance, 1917-2017, also addresses it.
IRN force Arab leaders to accept Hamas as a legitimate party in Pls national unity government. H.A in Lebanon, Bashar in Syria, Houthi in Yemen, Qatar…….. are fee examples.
I think Mouin is wrong that the new 2017 'charter' pledges adherence to the two-state solution. Read it carefully. That's not what is in the text in Article 20. Rami is closer to the truth in pointing out that the 2017 Document sticks to Right of Return, which alone destroys the two-state solution because it overcomes the Jewish nature of the larger of the two states.

Yes I always think about this. No one safeguards their welfare. Arab states failure to protect is disappointing.

20% of Israelis are Arabs mostly Muslims. Why don't you came and see how they live? Or you are on payroll with one of Israel enemies.
The bold man is BS
Thank you for this information. Most of the West would never have access to this level of expertise or objectivity.

The hypocrisy of the ICC is incredible. Well called out, Mouin.
Thank you so much for this educational insight. And to you Mr Rabani, thank you.

Are the tunnels under the netzarim corridor still in use? Can the Palestinian fighters still move underground between north and south?
