Don't feel like knipex is gonna talk to knipex there's history there and they're kind of each other's main competitor

The issue is you have to open the handles to their max to get that no button version to work. That may be an access issue when the handles get to 10 inches long

    Hi there Doc,
I have experience with the quick set kobra and I don’t like them: you set them up to a bolt , nut , pipe whatever you might have to put the plier way for a reason and then usually you have to readjust your plier because it slipped. Don’t like them won’t use them and won’t recommend to anybody.
Awesome video though! Keep up the good work!

For me button was the best design. Before handle would readjust randomly for me.

Huge working repetitively one handed with changing grips and position.

I really gotta get myself a pair of the locking hose clamp Cobra pliers. I was replacing pretty much everything in front of the fan on a early 2000s GMC today and while the regular 10" Cobras worked, the locking would've been nice to have.

I think they made it so that you can " quick set " the opening to whatever you need , and then once it's locked it stays there so you can have the benefit of the regular Cobras .
I don't know man , Knipez is giving us more options to choose from , not sure what the sarcasm is all about really .
Are we complaining because we've got options now ?

Yes cuz we want more twin grips and they need to quit making new cobras lol

My favorite quickest is the Quickest VDE in chrome finish. So cool.

I've the basic one and it's my go to for gripping almost everything. Jaws are a bit nasty and tend to leave marks on softer materials. One hand sounds great if you get the right one.

Hah, I think the push-button "quick set" version was developed years before the XS was released; so it's possible they'd go in that direction eventually

Why would you want to use 250mm pump pliers on such small bolts? Unless they end up rounded off I prefer other tools.
I had understood the advantage of the quick set to be the one handed operation which when you are doing something like holding a pipe and a fitting (needing two pliers) to be helpful. I go back and forth on them as to whether I like the quick set or not. Can’t say I have broken a pair which was my original concern.

I have a Lenox Pliers Wrench (parallel jaw) model number LXHT90540 that are quick setting like these Cobras. I really like them.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the wide variety of mechanisms in Fiskars' line of pruners/shears, they have some interesting designs.

Really, Knipex needs to buy Knipex Wrench/Cobra XS design for Knipex Quickset.

Good afternoon Doc. I just picked up a Klein 3 in 1 part number 32767, 6 inch and part number 32766, 3 inch. 5/16, 1/4 nut driver and 1/4 hex bit holder in 1 with magnet and thought of you. I think you will be pleasantly satisfied with it...

I have to admit I love Knipex but sometimes find pressing the button to be a PITA. You have to have the pliers opened in the right spot. I think it might be more on the Pliers Wrench than the Cobra's but I have to fiddle with it. That's my only complaint.

I found they don't make that much of a difference you're better off with a regular cobras. For far cheaper. Or if you want one-hand operation you can get yourself some alligators for even cheaper.

Do you have to open it fully to make it work?
    That's not very practical

I bought a set several years ago & wasn’t impressed. I don’t know what happened to them?
They didn’t work well enough to even be concerned when I noticed they were missing.

I was really disappointed when I bought my Quicksets that they locked in place and couldn't slide up any further.
If you want a good adjustment mechanism, the Irwin Groovelock works much better but the actual plier functionality isn't as good.

Ended up returning mine. Maybe for some specific repetitive task it's superior to regular Cobras, but the auto-adjust mechanism wears and gets worse relatively quickly... the locking feature is awkward and unreliable... you lose about 1/3 of your jaw capacity... and it's far easier to crush semi-soft/thin objects with auto adjust rather than manually setting exactly how far you want the pliers to close.
Unless the auto adjust is saving you hours a week on some repetitive task (probably a better way to do it than this auto adjust anyway) these really have no place in a toolkit. Skip em and go with regular cobras.

I've got a QuickSet Cobra with the other type of handle (8722250) and I can't say it's ever worked reliably for me... I personally wouldn't recommend them to anyone. That other design from that company called "knipex" looks nice though... I'll see if I can find one of those
