Lyrics:
Some days we're colder than a blackberry winter
Some nights we're hotter than Judgement Day
Most of the time we live on the right side of the middle
Not the best but not the worst and that's OK
And on the days and nights when our hearts need reminded
Of forever and the promises we've made
We'll take a walk under the pink and ivory blossoms
We'll stop and we'll smile and then she'll say
How the flowers reminded her of Jesus
She tells the story every Easter
About the crosses on their necks and little crowns on their heads
She said, I love you like the dogwoods love the spring
Babe, I love you like the dogwoods love the spring
There ain't nothin like old time to heal your sorrow
And there's nothin like the clock to bring back pain
Who we were and who we are and all that's changing
Is there nothing that can ever stay the same
Like the flowers that reminded her of Jesus
She tells the story every Easter
About the crosses on their necks and little crowns on their heads
She said, I love you like the dogwoods love the spring
Babe, I love you like the dogwoods love the spring
Who can say why the heart bends like a willow
Who can say why the soul turns upside down
We both say that we won't break, but even if we do
It's a promise like an anchor to the ground
Just like the flowers that reminded her of Jesus
She tells the story every Easter
About the crosses on their necks and little crowns on their heads
She said, I love you like the dogwoods love the spring
Babe, I love you like the dogwoods love the spring
Love the spring

I love this song so much Phillip! I live in WNC and have a flowering Dogwood that blooms every spring that I look forward to, it reminds me of Jesus too. Thank you!

My Grandfather ~ my ornery old Grandpa from Kentucky who mellowed out slightly in his 80s just for me a bit I think 😂, we lived with him his last few years in NJ, I remember him trying to trap all the squirrels we had, they drove him nuts lol. Anyways, we would load up all the traps in the trunk of his big white Lincoln (I remember worrying that they might suffocate in the trunk, poor things) and take them a few miles away down to the big park that was close by and let them go. He swore they would find their way back, that the park was too close. So once a month we’d make the trek about an hour away to the border of PA. He felt better every time, thinking there’s no way they could find their way back from another state…..
But this ornery old man who was pretty legend in our family and neighborhood for his temper….he had built my Grandma this house we lived in, and in the front yard amongst the big spruce and oak trees, was this tiny little dogwood. I looked for the flowers every spring. I like to think he did one nice thing for her and planted it for her. Or maybe she planted it for herself. 😊
So dogwoods are so special to me, and NO ONE else has a song about them that I know of and it’s my favorite thing about you, you are an amazing writer and write things that no one else does. Sorry for gushing, but you deserve it!
Thanks for sharing that !

Sound great Philip! Hey I just got news, that you were coming to the New River Gorge and do a show, on June 7th. Only thing is 100 tickets are only going to be sold, says it's "private." Why don't you just up and do a concert, so it can be heard by all visitors but still charge. Geeee sure would like to see you but I'm betting those tickets are already sold! (Glen). WV.
Looking into it! Stay tuned
