  • It's a controversial statement to make but I believe that it's true. When it comes to Business Intelligence, Looker Studio is a better tool than Power BI.
    In this video I compare Power BI to Looker Studio and explain why one is better suited to Business Intelligence than the other.

    I must drag 2 card when I want compare 2 measure cards in looker studio .. but in power BI more easier if you want compare 2 measure ..
    But anyway I very love looker studio because easy to learn .. very friendly for beginners.. that's very true..

    People tend to became fan boys of applications, as a software engineer I see this a lot.
    Pretty solid points in video and people, keep the but but but....

    The MASSIVE thing for me with Looker Studio vs PBI is the responsive design/mobile experience. Looker S is a desktop experience primarily. You can build mobile versions yeh, but not truly responsive designs like PBI. Senior bods love that stuff.

    Looker will never have the power Query capabilities

      Power Query has severe limitations when used with DirectQuery data sources so it’s pretty useless in a true BI scenario. As I say in the video, any serious BI project wouldn’t use Power Query to apply transformations to data, they would be done before connecting it to a BI tool like Power BI.

    I've created thay exact toolbox in power bi in several different ways. I can agree it looks easier to do in thay studio, but that doesn't make it "better". I can do that in tabaleu and quicksight also. I'd still choose power bi over either.
    What makes power bi "better" (imo) then tabaleu or quicksight (never used the google one) is simplely tje ability to customize everything to whay I want and need. Yes, something are "harder" in power bi b/c of thay but I value the flexibility over ease of use.

      I appreciate your point of view. I’m not sure you can make an educated judgement if you haven’t even tried “that Google one”. I’m not saying that Looker Studio is more powerful or better than Power BI overall, because it isn’t. I’m saying that is better for Business Intelligence. Because it is.

      @@LearnBI 1. Time. Yes, in looker studio learning curve is smooth, but once you master DAX and modeling, time calculations will become almost as easy.
      2. Yeah, it's cloud-based, but the number of features is very small, and it can't handle like 200M rows data.
      3. SQL-based means it can't be used as semantic layer

    • @LearnBI
      @LearnBI  3 місяці тому +2

      1. "Almost as easy" but not as powerful. My point is that time/date management and analysis is an in-built part of the tool, and not something that you need to calculate using formulas. It is simply better for BI use cases.
      2. Because it's cloud-based, it can handle billions of rows in sources like BigQuery, Amazon Redshift and Microsoft Azure. And with regard to features, which ones specifically are missing from Looker Studio that you would need for the majority of BI projects?
      3. That literally makes no sense to the point I make, which is that the calculation language in Looker Studio is based on SQL whereas DAX is a completely separate language. A Powerful language, yes, but only relevant to Power BI users.

    I find your videos very helpful to learn, but all of the pop media clips in this one kept distracting me.

    • @jtekmmx

      I found them to do the opposite. If the speaker speaks for too long without a break, some may lose focus. Having the clips creates breaks and may increase attention and reduce distraction. Like the person behind your car honking the horn, your attention brings come back to the front.

    "notion of time is an essential factor when comes to BI, right?" - Yes, therefore, please less memes in your video :) Been spending time to create a homelab for metabase and found out about Looker Studio last night. Some issues with xlsx files but csv seems to be fine. You are my first video to learn about it Vs Power BI (I have premium access) and I am convinced. Looker Studio it is.

    What about sharing reports? Can you easily share reports to someone external to your company using Power BI? Thanks

    • @Kepha_Gaming
      @Kepha_Gaming 16 днів тому +1

      Nope. Our company has Power BI premium and whenever we want to share to someone, the person must have the same access type (and be under the same tenant I believe).

    I agree with the KPI cards. To create that in Power BI you will need at least 3 measures and if you are to add absolute value then u need even more.

    • @MyEyesAreOnFire
      @MyEyesAreOnFire 3 місяці тому +1

      That doesn't make it "better" just easier. I've not used this studio but it seem similar to the tabaleu v power bi debate. Tabaleu let you do a lot via the UI but the instant you can't do it via the UI either you can't do it period or it is WAY more difficult then power bi. Power bi's greatest strength is it's flexibility in both modeling and making visuals (charticulator, py/r, declaritive)

    • @roycemekolle7334
      @roycemekolle7334 2 місяці тому

      @@MyEyesAreOnFire Looker studio as a stand alone tool is not even close to power BI. The lack of data transformation and cleaning means it's not very useful on its own except when combined with something like SQL. But I understand where he is coming from.

      ... once again ignored the important part of data preparation, which is very powerful in PowerBI.
      Without this, all BI tools are suddenly very good.
      You can't rely on the source data always being prepared perfectly, especially not for analysis tasks.

    • @LearnBI
      @LearnBI  2 місяці тому +1

      @@Nachtaktiv2000 I would suggest that if you are doing data prep using Power BI, you're doing it wrong.
