In this we do the prep work for the manual transmission swap on my 1990 BMW E30 MTech2. I wanted to clean the transmission up and get it looking as good as I knew how prior to installing the new parts for it. A thorough degreasing, wire wheel and sand, followed by some fresh paint did the trick. Following this a number of new moving parts were installed to get the transmission the feel I am looking for in the car. I wanted to fully prep it in this video so that the next could just be the actual swap going down. I hope you guys enjoy, much love.

I must say that is sometimes good to not have a car, space and tools like you have, my ocd would made me go nuts with stuff like this. I think I would have ended up with a completly chromed or candypanted and glittery gearbox. You did a wonderful job ,just as it should be.

Man, you started out with a really clean transmission! Every time I get a trans to clean, you can't see any of the silver bits, it's usually caked in half an inch of grime/oil/dirt.
Do you work by yourself? If you do, do you find it difficult not having the socialization?
Mostly! And nah I find it’s easier to get stuff done when alone tbh. I have a puppy and a relationship with all the local Starbucks employees
Did the same to mine when i swapped it back in 2020, ended up painting mine to help any further corrosion and make it look better of course. Also went delrin bushings, short shifter and DSSR

@@ChromaticGarage Thank you, I love what is going on with the projects, I have this one project, a 1990 Volvo 780 Bertone. It is a beautiful car but needs some work to get it running properly. Not enough time in the day for this project. It's a shame.

You should take a look at an Autosolutions Short Shifter. I had an IE one and upgraded to Autosolutions. It was night and day. BTW great content. Keep up the good work..

Hey man so I’ve got an 86 325es with the Getrag 260 (260.9.12 something) and I have to do the early to late model shifter swap, do you happen to know the part number or what year/model e30s have the 260? I need the shifter arm and I gotta find one that comes from any e30 with a 260 just not sure what years/sub model to look up since it won’t come up for my year/vin since it’s got the plate shifter

Long time ago that I commented, because repeating that i LOVE your videos does not add much I guess.
However, this time, I was wondering: have you ever considered a sand-blasting chamber? A medium-sized one would suffice for transmission, brake parts and rims. It is so useful to have for paint prep work. That being said, I have no clue what it costs, both the chamber and the samd-blasting media, but I am just curious.
Just spent an amount of time that I will not disclose detailing, now I can watch this while making dinner. Life is too easy.
