I started wit a 95 gallon tank and haven’t switched up. My goal at the beginning was 9 cars a day for 25 to 30 a car to try to seal a 225 to 270 dollar day. Now I do 4 a day and am past that mark with better efficient service. It takes time but it’s worth it
I use a 50 gallon tank with a 1.7 gpm pressure washer. I can do 3-4 cars with that set up. Mainly because a lot of the cars I do, don't have caked on mud/dirt. Also, I pretreat the paint and my two bucket system consists of a bucket ONR with about 15 microfiber towels that I use once. I use a Ram C/V Tradesman, so space and weight played a big factor. I wanted a smaller vehicle so I can cater to clients that live in buildings with garages. Basically, it's easier to maneuver and park. I only break out the foam cannon, if i'm doing a paint correction and/ceramic coating. In other words, the more they pay, the more water they get. Weight should also be a major factor in choosing a water tank. 1 gallon = 8.35 lbs. So if your vehicle has a payload capacity of lets say 1600 lbs, the water is going to take up half that. And that's not including passengers, gas, and all of your equipment and supplies. If you overload your vehicle, there will be more wear and tear.
I agree I’m a veteran in this business I recently made comeback I had a Ford van with a large water tank it weighed the van down and was hard on the transmission the small van I have now would need a small tank if go that route
I was talking to a customer the other day about this topic. They'd notice I downgraded to a smaller tank (250 go to 100 gal) 3-4 cars is all i need at my price point...it took a while 😃 to get there!! Great topic Ant! Keep winning brother 🏆

Great video. Best I’ve seen on water tank sizing. It’s hard to give someone a direct answer because there are so many variables that can change things but you explained those very well.
i love how you just meshed together price points and water tank size. That has truly been my dilemma. I have a gravity feed 275gal setup on a sunjoe 2200 and its just a mess hauling it on trailer with my tacoma. been thinking of downsizing my tank however i do a bunch of business and referrals. def a hard question to answer
Best breakdown I’ve heard on yt. This is real detailing. A luxury service. Now it’s being pushed to membership based turn and burn. Just my observation. I wouldn’t want volume. At your price point and demographic would you advise ever using clients power and water? Thank you.
I have a 100 gl tank and its a smaller van. The guy that had the van before me left the tank so I upgraded from 65 to 100 But unfortunately he messed up the van by driving it with too much weight and i bought a bad van.. now paying to fix it but i love it. Learn and grow
Off topic here... So I have detailed every summer for about Ten years now all types and kinds of vehicles.. but have never detailed a black Vehicle or a convertible/top either .I heard black cars is a little tougher to get it right .. have any tips on them 2.. actually have those 2 lined up to do at the end of the month .. jus curious...
Either color will need to get rinsed off as soon as you can of soap Spray some “Superior formula 4 spray wax” when you are rinsing the car off the soap What that Superior product does is beading that water and leaving a coat of wax, leaving a look like waxed car. Giving you also a water spot free car and now take your time to use your favorite rag to get the car dry even under direct sun light Read instructions to use this product, dilution rate Safe to use Spray the product everywhere in the car, safe on glass Order it on line @ oreylli’s auto parts, $25 I guess but it lasts a long time as you dilute the formula Superior products has some good stuff for car maintenance Several videos here on UA-cam using this product Or use p&s bead maker, same concept different $price
Can you use super clean diluted on car paint for hard dirt spots if so what dilution ratio, and for the things I can’t get off with my microfiber mit that are hard to get off and lift? Thanks please help
Do one third super clean, two thirds water and two dawn shot glass pours and that’ll do just fine. Just don’t let it dry on trim. Everything else should be fine like tires and paint. For interior just do 10 parts water one part SC
Water weighs close to 8-1/2 pounds per gallon. Don't forget to figure that extra weight in on your van, pickup or trailer, and make sure your vehicle can haul and stop that extra weight. Saw a local guy pulling a pontoon boat with a small pickup go right thru a light and hit a car. Too much weight for his truck.
@@AAProfessionalServices You can just fill up the tank with deionized water from your local detail shop. It's not a must but less or no water spots makes your life easier
I’m running a 50 gallon tank with a harbor freight gas pressure cleaner i get minimum of 4 vehicles no pre rinse just foam the car down that allows me to save 5-6 gallons per car
Shouldn't you pre rinse all the dirt and contaminants off? If you just foam it and contact wash, wouldn't you be rubbing contaminants into the paint and creating micro scratches? I'm genuinely curious. Not hating lol.
Vehicle too small and tires are at the wrong rating would be my guess. Water is about 8.4lbs/gal. I dont have anything lower than a 3/4 ton truck for the weight cap and E rated tires. You can get a ticket for being overweight for the gvrw of your vehicle also.

You’re correct. Sometimes you have just get out there and figure it out. Trail and error.
Great job! Very good explanation. Thanks

Thats how you stay positive. Great mindset
All matters on the situation, I run a 1900 psi electric with 20 gal water tank, I was able to do a 26 foot trailer with half of it.
So 50 gallons can definitely do one car
@@allenkoe1 a lot of people seem to be using 26gallon tanks for up to 2 cars. 50gal should be about 3-4 cars. Big SUV like this probably 2 vehicles
You’re absolutely correct

@@mauriciorodriguez7154 why do you say use dawn is super clean not enough?
Are you using a pump for your pressure washer or just gravity fed? If no pump, does the pressure washer have a built in pump? I like this setup a lot!
Its gravity fed
What do you use for tye wheel cleaner...touchless or pre wash
Touchless
Do you need a pump from the water tank to your pressure washer in order for it to work ?
No . Gravity fed

This is true
What cleaning liquid you use? You use the same to clean wheel and car ?
You should get a deionized water setup. That way, you do not have to worry about water spots
Okay. Cool. Do you have one?

im just starting to get into the detail field would i be able to use the customers water? im 16 i cant afford to buy a full water tank and di water
You definitely can. Most will assume that you would have to use there water. They will offer it to you.
What is it that you're spraying from the home depot sprayer on the wheels?
All purpose cleaner
Does stopping the van or braking is harder when u fill tank all the way up to the max
Not really. 100 gallon is only 800 pounds. The van can hold 2500 pounds
@@AAProfessionalServices oh ok 👍 thanks for responding
I change out brake pads every 6-7months for max weight on my promaster city van.
I am heavy with extra items and di tank.

Not at this time
What size water tank do you think would be good for a sedan? I’m thinking I can put one in my trunk or backseat
50 -65
Dum question but we’re do you buy your water tank?
Tank outlet.
Do you have a pump on your water tank?
No pump. It’s gravity fed.
@@AAProfessionalServices I’m not sure how to make that work
Why so much psi? I heard anything over 1900psi damages the paint
1900 psi can be dangerous for car paint as well. Always use the white tips and never hold the wand too close to the vehicle's paint.
Bad water 😢

Do u have a pump in the tank
No.all gravity fed
How much was the tank
That tank was $200. It’s probably double that now
