  • The Worm Guard and other lapel guard variations can be really frustrating to pass when you don’t yet have the necessary technical understanding of the position, which is why it’s really important to study these positions even if you don’t want to play them yourself. In this video I have my buddy Pedro Paquito Ramalho showing a super effective pass he used this year at Europeans to escape Worm Guard. Hope you like it, as always best way to support and keep the channel running is by leaving a thumbs up and subscribing :)

Great details here! Could you guys please do a follow up of how you deal with the worm guard after your opponent progresses his grip to the full worm guard position? Or even some thoughts on maintaining the position on top and how to grip and distribute weight etc. to make things tough for the worm guard player? Very difficult position to deal with if they progress their grips to the full worm or RDL worm.

Amazing how people come up with different passes to different guards. Jon, you seem to know a lot about lapel guard. When you want to get in depth knowledge of a position, do you study tape or do you buy an instructional from someone who is knowledgeable in the position (for example Keenan in this case). I am really interested to know how to study tape, because when I do, often times I cannot see everything going on unless I have some knowledge of the position. Amazing content btw!

I think he watches a lot of tape.
For watching tape, what I would recommend is to watch matches or higlights of one fighter at a time. That way you will recognize patterns. Also, if you watch tape, do not try to understand everything. Look only for things you know. Even better if you know the fighter's game.
For example, I would watch Leandro Lo if I want to see Torreando and Knee slide passing. If I were to watch Langaker, I expect to see more collar sleeve. Look for the positions you know.

Prob not. I see an easy Barimbolo though.

Alex Rodriguez you can do the inversion but you don’t control his hips or legs... that Berimbolo will go bad real quick
