Nice job in taping. May I suggest that if you roll on a “W” then fill it in you will get a more even distribution of the paint. That said, you did a great job Nave! Kudos to Cole for not micro-managing.
@Acer Acres Actually what I have seen pro painters do is just start at one end of a wall/area and do a full ceiling to floor strip, do another-as long as you have sufficient paint loaded in the roller-, then go back with the mostly empty roller and cover/blend the joints. Reload and repeat. This is how I do it and get good results. I have never understood the W thing either.
Looking good. Since there's more to do... 1. Tie back that beautiful hair. A cap wouldn't hurt, either. 2. Drop cloth on all floors. Easier to protect the floor than deal with clean up. 3. Yup. Safety. 4. Color and finish...try what you think you'll like. It can be changed. 5. FYI- a.flat does grab smudges and finger prints more than eggshell or semi gloss. High traffic areas vs low traffic areas. b. There are specific paints for kitchens and baths to deal with moisture. c. Keep a small marked container of room paint for future touch ups to prevent need to repaint entire room d. Goo Gone is helpful for dried paint clean up. Flat, single edge razor blades are good for scraping paint. e. Disposing of old paint, mix with Kitty litter and let dry hard. YOU ARE DOING GREAT. DOING IS THE BEST LEARNING.
@@AD-rp8xw I'm not sure. On old floors like those, there's probably a pretty robust varnish seal. I would use a q-tip or rag just over my finger tip to try to keep the goo gone just on the paint drop. Don't saturate a rag and wipe all around.
Flat finish is the best at hiding imperfections. You can tape your brush to the pole to paint the high up places. When rolling, lead with the metal arm of the roller, cuz that's where you put the most pressure. You did a great job Nave!!!❤❤❤

The flatter the paint, the less the imperfections in the wall show. You did a nice job. And each time you paint, you'll get better at it. My mom always says that painting is probably the biggest improvement you can make to a room for $20 (ok, I'm old and it was a long time ago when she'd say it). Two tips that I learned from my husband are to not dip the paint brush farther than 1/3-1/2 the length of the bristles and to not glop the paint roller into the paint. You did a great job!

I think it would be fun to have an "I did it all by myself" series. Cooking, decorating, sewing, gardening, mowing.....whatever. It would be a fun series. Another idea would be a challenge series. My suggestion would be challenging your subscribers to memorize scriptures along with you. Another good series would be "Nave Learns How To". Like, speak french, water ski, play the drums, groom a poodle. Fun stuff like that! Take care and stay safe.

Yes drop clothes to protect the floor and a ladder with a full step tread so not to cause pain in the soles of your feet. Such a ladder provides more stability on the ladder and less stress on the body. Speaking from experience from an old timer lol

Old house ceilings are often so dry it peels off the joint paper. Just like you did. If you use a wool roller for the popcorn ceiling it will cover better. It seems you are doing great enough to keep painting the rest of this house. To late to get out of it now. Is is so fresh and bright! Good job.

Tape first check. I hate the neck pain too. It looks so much better now. Will look even brighter when you clean the windows. Mix up some white distilled vinegar ,water, and a drop or two of dawn and wipe windows with one of those micro cloths. no lint check

Nave Looks nice with everything. Bright white etc. make it look like a rental. You usually want some other color, either on trim (but never paint stained/varnished trim) or wall, or a wallpaper border, or something,

Bright white always look great and goes with everything! Remember to paint ceiling first and work down. Flat paint is great in every room except bathrooms or kitchen. They need a little gloss for moisture (bathroom) and cleaning (kitchen). Flat also is the best to hide imperfections the wall may have. You will be an expert in no time!
Great job. I remember the first time I painted a room alone. I thought it looked like such fun, until about half way through. You kept a much happier frame of mind than I did. 😂😂

Next time try using a painter's drop cloths so you don't have to clean the floor
Take newspaper sheets and stick them to the tape you put on the baseboards. The newspaper protects the baseboards and a tarp for the floor.
old sheet, blanket anything really just move it to the area you are working on.

i need to learn all this for our jewelers shop ! thanks you and cole for being such positive lights young people...you all get along so well and in today's world that is a blessing... im currently reclaiming a 1963 (yeah its a theme) corecraft fiberglass boat...I got a angle sander for mother's day yeah got flowers too but used my sander more... lol..
I like Antique White, it looks very nice with wood trim, then paint the ceiling with Ceiling White. I use Eggshell sheen for walls and satin for trim.

Nave Looks nice with everything. Bright white etc. make it look like a rental. You usually want some other color, either on trim (but never paint stained/varnished trim) or wall, or a wallpaper border, or something,

Nave, you are right. Interior walls should be painted with eggshell. The shinier the paint, the more flaws in construction show through.

Bright white always look great and goes with everything! Remember to paint ceiling first and work down. Flat paint is great in every room except bathrooms or kitchen. They need a little gloss for moisture (bathroom) and cleaning (kitchen). Flat also is the best to hide imperfections the wall may have. You will be an expert in no time!
