@@CasualSweatx dude if you go to a theme park, and the roller coaster is rickety, rusty, and looks suspiciously weathered or damage, maybe it’s not the smart thing to ride it, but is it your legal responsibility to ensure the safety of the rides you get on? Hell no! The liability falls on the provider of the ride. The parent probably didn’t know about the moshing and drugging until they were in too deep. It doesn’t matter if it was dumb or not, it’s the responsibility of the event coordinators and hosts to protect their patrons! Why would we have age restrictions on clubs, restaurants, or movies when people could just “do their research” instead? That’s the whole point of age restrictions… to establish what scenario might be a safe environment for what age group… obviously Travis Scott and his crew greatly failed

I was on the left side waiting for Travis for 3 hours in the front. I had realized that the barricade set us up in a cage but I didn’t think much of it until an hour before the music. I had tried to make my way out but it was so packed that no one could move out of the way even if they had wanted to. Eventually I made it 5 yards backwards in AN HOUR. In my new position I was still in the cage but it was still TIGHTLY packed. I fell and was on the ground for 20 minutes, thankfully the people around me helped me out. From my perspective the barricade placement left no room for pressure to dissipate thus causing the crowd surge to cause all that harm. I cannot stress how packed it was.

Yeah it surprises me how much all you fans still somehow try not to blame Travis when he himself could have full blown stopped the show till everything got settled. You can’t use the excuse that this or that, because every time people have been posting shows of all types of bands from rock to hip hop, with artists from hardcore to pop, all who took the time to let their fans know what’s up with safety, even fking lil pump who sometimes we take as brain dead was able to stop some of this.
The other thing is if you are like oh he couldn’t stop it because his fans are the crazy ones, who do you think influenced them? Was it the lady at the grocery store? No it was fking Travis who feeds and encourages this energy. He already has previous cases and counts of inciting this same thing, from a paralyzed fan to now dead fans.
Y’all need to wake up and mature, life ain’t a game, it’s why things are placed to ensure safety, it’s why we have some rules and regulations, yes rage is cool and all but now you must realize that not everyone is on the same moral or ethical code, I grew up with cousins who wouldn’t flinch to stab me. Some people don’t give a fk about you, they feed off of that energy.

I know Travis Scott doesn’t want to appear guilty but the humane thing to do would be to give a large lump sum to those families. He’ll recover one day. I’m learning that cancel culture is a myth if an artist has a hardcore fan base. There’s always going to be that group of people (unfortunately) who justifies anything their favorite celeb does. I’m not saying that the man should have been bawling but he seemed so detached and as if he just wiped the crust off his eyes. Cancel culture has always been somewhat of a myth. All of these celebrities usually bounce back after saying/ doing something questionable. Look at Ellen. all those allegations of racism and ill treatment in the workplace, she got royally "cancelled" on the internet. All she had to do to fix it was hop back on set, say "i'm sorry" and give twitch a promotion and everything was fine.
At the end of the day, Travis will still be making millions off of his current catalogue of music. Give it a few months and UTOPIA will be released, and it will sell at least 150k 1st week cos its Travis Scott. He'll be fine

I think the problem with Travis really just comes down to him being way too desensitized to his fans getting fucked up at his shows because it goes with the whole rager image and thats probably why he saw the ambulance and the passed out people and just kept going. He definitely should be held accountable for that and encouraging his fans to be fucking crazy and just disregard all the rules and everyone telling them to just sneak into the show. It is super irresponsible and he’s finally getting hit with that reality all of that finally reached a breaking point. I think in the moment he probably just thought he could keep the show going and the medics and security would just handle it but in the end they were really overwhelmed. It was a fuckfest everyone involved with setting it all up just did a terrible job

As a fan of both Travis Scotts music and him as a person, this has definitely been an uncomfortable series of realisations.
I think a lot of what prevented Travis from taking the actions recommended here is due to the ego and disconnect which has built his identity and driven his success since the beginning.
I feel like Travis felt himself a leader - he has always been so embedded into the idea of raging at shows and creating the most intense outlet of that.
All around him is proof of this identity, I can imagine he would feel the pressure to constantly need to outdo or live up to the level of ‘rage’ he has channeled in the past.
This is only exacerbated by the overwhelming hype for a post corona event with huge artists and massive crowds.
It is a disappointing fact that the actions people call Travis out for from the past, were instead positively received at the time they happened. People thought it was iconic when Travis told people to rush the stage etc. Obviously in hindsight, and to anyone with crowd management experience, it was irresponsible, but within Travis’s sphere of influences, who would have called him out when people lauded him for being such a ‘rager’.
I feel like Travis had a huge amount of pressure to make this performance the greatest he’s done - with it being performed on the grounds of Astroworld, in his home town, after a huge period of time without huge festivals with some of the biggest artists in the world performing.
I want Travis to be held accountable for how his artist image has culminated in this, that his actions in the past and to this point have been irresponsible and have led to him not understanding the severity of the situation before it was too late. Travis should have managed the crowd better, especially with the ambulances. At the very least I hope that Travis moves away from this persona and makes real effort to heal his community.
The management of this event was horrible at all levels, I pray for the victims of this event and that their families receive all of the support possible.

I partially agree, the stage crew and other workers surveilling the show definitely should’ve jumped into action, but the way so many witnesses describe makes it difficult to blame someone. The crowd endlessly shifted around like a wave and was crammed in to the point that it became difficult for one’s lungs to expand. I think Travis was somewhat wrapped up in his own performance but should’ve taken some notice to the constant yells for help between songs. But in the crew’s fairness not only would they need to pinpoint certain people in critical condition, but there was no way of reaching them. The only thing to do in the future is to prepare and prevent this from happening again.

As a longtime fan of his music and an attendee of Astroworld, im very disappointed. I couldn’t attend the first 2 years but I was so excited to go this year. It was literally going to be one of the highlights of my year. I loved Travis Scott so I camped out 3 hours early for a good spot for his set like many others. Never did I think I would want to get out so much in my life at my favorite artists concert. There were way too many people and I was blessed to walk away with minor injuries but the entire time I was panicking and thinking to myself “when will it end”. When you admire someone so much for so long, you never think they would put you in danger like that. I think like Shawn said in his video the worst part is his response. Roddy Rich who many of the people I talked to at the festival SKIPPED
to get a good spot for Travis responsed promptly and respectfully and it was not even his show. He just really let me down. As for his music I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to listen again because now it’s like a soundtrack to what happened that night. I hope he’s doing okay, but the situation was just handled terribly in my opinion on his end.

I think the worst part of all of this is how he and Kylie responded. It comes off as if they do not feel in the least bit responsible. Its just disgusting that they care so little about the people that love and adore and literally idolize them.
regardless of the intent, the brand partnering with the mental help services is tone deaf.
Maybe the legality of it all as to why nothing much else has been said. I don't think it'd be a gesture that suggests fault, to have had organized some type of official vigil service by now (Kanye tried but I'd have announced something like this through Travis to at least try to make him look better. These one offs by the other performing artists look like every man for himself off this wreck). He could have showed up to the service, he/Kylie could be at the hospital with victims, he just gave two bare minimum PR statements and let his peers move to make good deeds before him. Maybe things are being done out of the public eye, but I don't want to hear about it via a Netflix documentary that lines their pockets, that's clearly the culture that got us here.
Then Kylie good god. Recorded the ambulances. Screams "look at all the peasants". Just piss poor self awareness.
As for fault, I think most of this is on poor planning: overselling venue + poor staffing, then Travis insighting people to sneak in and increase capacity and rowdiness in general.
Ignoring the show not getting stopped at several red flags, the responses to the whole event have just put a sour taste in my mouth for Travis and Kylie, they just seem like they think so little of other people. Like it's one thing to not know in the moment, it's another to be totally tone deaf to how to respond. Makes me feel like they think their fans are nothing but zeroes and commas in the grand scheme, the kids that make fun of the less fortunate behind closed doors.
Redemption for everyone, but there's a sour taste here, those responses were not it

I was in the center of the pit during the event. I did CPR and helped pull a couple of people out of the crowd. Travis, the organizers, the experts who helped organized the event, etc etc etc all share responsibility for what happened. The whole event was a shitshow from the very beginning. The barricading system was absolutely appalling and most definitely contributed to the surge. Even though I assume Travis didn’t have much to do with the actual logistics of the event aside from design, the festival in his name. It’s his responsibility to ensure that he can provide a festival that’s fun and rage-worthy, but also safe. In terms of his response, no amount of response will be seen as sufficient. He paid for the cost of the victim’s funerals and other fees, partnered with a mental health network to provide services for anyone at the fest, and is supposedly refunding every single ticket sold. Nothing will make up for the lives lost, and if there’s anything to take away from this, it’s that there needs to be more oversight and regulation when it comes to this massive festivals. You cannot control how people act, but you can mitigate the risk but making sure the environment is as safe as possible for everyone to have a great time.

I think this was a bad combo of things that eventually created a horrific event. The organisers were awful. They were understaffed, under supplied and agreed to sell more tickets even when they were at capacity. But they opted with extra money over health and safety.
Travis, while it’s not directly his fault. He’s still to blame. He’s promoted rage culture in a way that is completely unsafe. Rockstars mosh all the time but they are actually sensible with it. I.e if people are getting hurt, it stops etc. Travis is different. He’s encouraged fans to break in, jump barriers, ignore security and jump off balconies. He’s been arrested MULTIPLE times for inciting riots and public endangerment. That’s all fine if you only have 200 people at your show. But when you’re a popstar that has loads of minors as fans, you gotta know when to cut that shit out. It’s common sense. He’s taken rage culture and given it to an audience that really has no experience on how it works. So of course they go way too far.
He had people come up to him and tell him something was wrong and he ignored it. There was a time when the music cut out and you can hear very clearly a whole section screaming for help. He ignored it. He saw a person being resuscitated, he acknowledged it, but then started singing to the body which was so fucking weird. He saw multiple ambulances in the crowd and he ignored it. Either him or his team should have put two and two together and realised something is not right.
That apology was one of the worst apologies ever. It looks like he’s trying so hard to pretend to be upset. Just do a normal formal video. Why try and do the theatrics.

It’s so hard to even think about what they went through. I would say i’ve been a fan of travis since a little bit after rodeo came out. Probably partly because I live in houston and Travis reps where he is from heavily. I attended the first 2 astroworld festivals and had a pretty good time. There was definitely plenty of times things got too crazy though. My friend group who likes concerts and such, decided not to go to this astroworld because the price was almost double than the previous years. I feel extremely lucky that we didn’t end up going. Regarding my stance on Travis now, i haven’t listened to a travis song since the news, and anytime i see my travis merch i get a bad feeling, and just feel sadness for the people, when he could have just stopped the show. Once he saw the one guy passed out, things should have slowed down dramatically, and then the ambulance... if there is an ambulance somebody’s life is on the line. I was a fan of him because some of his songs slap, and when he opened for Kendick Lamar's DAMN concert when I was 18/19 I thought it was cool. I thought it was cool when he got on a bird mechanism above the audience, not afraid to fall. I thought it was cool when he had us stand on the seats, disobeying security warnings. Some stayed standing the whole time during this concert.
Mind you, I was 18-19 years old. Now I'm 23 and seeing this situation. All I can think is "It definitely was leading up to this". Travis runs his shows and brand on rebellion, borderline anarchy if you think about it. Disobeying authority as if he gives us permission to (he tells people this) because he's the one with the money and fame. When you're an adolescent, you don't think about the potential dangers. But those in their mid twenties and thirties knew better, and definitely shouldn't have encouraged it either.
I can't ignore the fact that Travis encourages this behavior too, because I've witnessed it first-hand. He should've stopped the show, and his apology felt like an inconvenience to him. I can't listen to his music anymore without thinking of the people who died.

His incessant perpetuation of rage culture has always been somewhat of a red flag. He takes the type of behaviour and brand of rebellion which is usually somewhat okay for a crowd of couple hundred adults, and presents it to thousands of minors who have no regard for even their own safety at times. They're kids, why would they, they think their invincible. That is ultimately the most dangerous thing about travis and the way he carries out his concerts. He is a mainstream artist with thousands of young fans at his concert. He isnt some underground rapper performing in a rager in some backroom. He needs to understand that.

After watching OBSERVE’s video on Scott’s apology, I’ll say this: when a bunch of people DIE at this guy’s music festival, you’d THINK it’d prompt more of an emotional and active response rather than sounding like he just got woken up and is shaking the last bits of sleep off. While it does sound like he was on something, the graveness and horror of the situation should prompt more a response than what he gave.
I mean, these were his FANS who died. Like people who took time out of their day to see HIM live! You’d think he’d be more devastated.

@@ezy002 Highly agree with this response. We never know exactly what Travis is thinking here. And a real apology i.e. taking responsibility is not a good move for him legally when there are other larger parties who are also responsible for this tragedy. In my opinion it did look like Travis was truly distraught but idk, like I said, only he knows what he's thinking. None of us are body language experts. Additionally, we don't know what he's doing behind the scenes. We can't judge him based on a 1m30s video addressing the situation.
At the end of the day, any kind of acknowledgement from travis, or lack thereof, would prompt criticism.

I do understand what you mean it honestly doesn’t look that great if you scrutinize it but to contextualize I’ve always known Travis’s interviews and public speaking to be very awkward and disjointed so I interpreted it as his way of expressing how he felt while still unsure of what the right and wrong thing is to say. Personally I’m someone who overthinks a lot and I’ve been called nonchalant about serious situations that I’ve cared deeply about so it does frustrate me to see people judge something as subjective as basic human expression of emotion based on how this stranger spoke in this video.

As a fan of Travis Scott, who has previously been to a concert of his during the Astroworld Tour, I think people are giving him too much shit as if he’s to be held responsible for all this when like you said there’s plenty of people who hold some of the responsibility as well. I do think there are valid points you made, and while I can see why you would feel how you feel, I really think people are misjudging a lot here. For example, the apology video came across as genuine to me, and I didn’t think anything of it at the time until I saw the conversation online. Travis is the type of person to upload a lot of random content quite often to his instagram story, especially of him talking to address his fanbase. It wasn’t weird how he was talking, or what he was saying necessarily, (there are a couple things to point out) He uploaded the video sometime the day after, and we had seen reports throughout the night of the concert and through the day after (before the apology) about the police investigation. Travis went out to that one afterparty, but I’m sure he was still very busy after finding out the severity of the situation just dealing with all sorts of things (and he said he had been working with Houston PD and the fire department, etc), so I don’t think the apology video was ever meant to be an “apology video” I saw it as more of an update on the situation as well as just a way of him addressing the situation. Plus I don’t think people should judge apology videos to determine how the person is actually feeling or what they’re going through cause that seems insensitive as we don’t really know those things for sure. I’m sure he’s devastated too, and I’m not trying to say that he doesn’t hold responsibility for this because he definitely is partially responsible, but I don’t think people are showing enough empathy and putting themselves in his shoes..Despite the mistakes he may have made, like potentially inciting some reckless behavior, it’s not like people at his concerts don’t enjoy the mosh pits or seek to take part in them, and I still think he really tries his best to provide help and while we can sit back and judge the lack of action we wanted to see during the concert, I don’t know if we should be pointing fingers at him without being understanding of the fact that we don’t know if someone communicated to him that things were fine while he was on stage, or he didn’t notice because he was really caught up in performing, or was thinking about other shit while looking around the crowd. We also know for a fact that there were plenty of people who didn’t know people had been hurt, much less killed based on many testimonies from people at the concert. we’re all people, I don’t think just because travis holds more responsibility than a lot at the event that we should disregard his perspective too. I do think whoever is to blame will be held accountable for their mistakes (including Travis and live nation), I think for now we should focus on providing the people that were hurt or the families that are suffering from the loss of a loved one with support and however else we can. I think a lot of the blame resides with concert culture, like accepting that injuries are likely to happen and accepting reckless behavior at concerts. I think this situation is far more complex than people are allowing themselves to see.

Even when you see an ambulance going through a crowd to try to save lives and you don’t help the people the care you need is just pure awful to me, on a personal level. No matter who it is, no one deserves to die, especially at a an event that is an everyday event for people. These 8 people did not know they would die to this show, they all bought the tickets in order to have fun, not to be punched pushed or killed by the person beside them without any action coming from the person who is control of the crowd and there health at this event

Stop being high, these are entertainers. Travis fucked up, the rage had a consequence that should have been predictable and prevented but flaws in the venue exacerbated the risk and led to these deaths. If no one died none of you would question Travis' ability to apologize. Such a stupid thing to ponder. Him apologizing will not resurrect anyone and won't prove anything. Bunch of dramatic individuals in the comments really expected travis to come out in tears saying "I killed those people". Talking bout "I need to rethink his music," you need to rethink riotous behavior, you need to rethink how safe a concert actually is, you need to rethink your damn priorities because if you think this is the last concert death history appears to say otherwise.

I wasn’t really a big fan of Travis he is just of those artist I tune into. I went to the fest to see what the hype was about. I drove 9 hours for the trip down to Houston with three other friends by the way this was my first concert. I knew stuff was off once I saw the merch line but I wasn’t thinking too much of it. As time went on I kept on trying to have fun with my friends I did have some but then we left sza 30 min early to get good seats for the performance. We were in the middle of the crowd. Once the first song hit every one rushed to the front to get good spots I thought it was normal so I started jumping and yelling until the second song started and every one kept on rushing from every where. I had people yelling at me about how they couldn’t breath. I couldn’t either I had to jump as high as I could in the crowd to get a relieve of cold air. I had a water bottle with little water in it. I never knew how selfish people were because when I was trying to escape the middle and help others I was getting yelled at and people were just calling me names or just not letting me move out. Later on I got separated from my friends. I rushed the crowd to the back for safety. I had fun but the part that got is that i didn’t know I was having fun while people were fighting for their lives until after. A part that got to me was when he was playing 90210 and there was an ambulance on the field I kept on saying that he was going to stop the song and he didn’t I stood there in just confusion and mixed emotions. That’s where I felt that I lost some respect for him. After the show I stood up the rest of that night just reading about the news. I’ve had nightmares every now and then about that night. My friends and I are okay but we left Houston traumatized and once I got home every day I get asked about what went down that night. I have feeling of survivors guilt occasionally. Songs like the “Escape plan and highest in the room” are the ones I can’t listen to throughly because those were the ones everything went to shit.

I think the travesty that was that concert was very unfortunate for everyone involved. With insight on being on the floor and in mosh pits at his Astroworld concert, I will definitely say that it's a dangerous zone to be in when things get rowdy. I think the blame goes to everyone involved. I will give Travis Scott the benefit of the doubt that things were lost in translation. He's used to people climbing everything and everywhere raging. He's used to people raging uncontrollably to his music. So the instances where people were trying to tell him or his security about what's going on and he's not doing anything about it, I will say he probably wasn't aware of the situation.
I do think he should take accountability for allowing a surplus of people to storm the area when the area was past capacity. That's an ignorant gesture that added to the problem. I also believe that people in the crowd should share the blame for how they acted, too. They raged on ambulances, stopped paramedics from getting to their destination, and deterred other concerned individuals from interrupting the show. The festival atmosphere is very dangerous and carries high risk especially for a Travis Scott concert. Personally, this is why I stay away from music festivals because once someone goes down, they will never be able to get up when the stampede starts moving and this was the case for the unfortunate lives that were lost in that event.
His apology video came off as disingenuous. The body language in the video didn't appear sincere. Could he be emotionally numb? Possibly. Whatever the case, after reviewing that video, he could have decided to not post the video and stick to a written statement. His apology didn't help his case on the criticism that he's getting. I appreciate that he's refunding all of the tickets from the event, cooperated with the authorities, and cancelled his Las Vegas event. For the many that were injured, I do think part of taking accountability, he could cover all of their medical fees. For the lives that were lost, there isn't a price that could cover losing a life.
