I don’t listen to Travis for lyricism, his music puts you in a trance or takes you somewhere. He puts a lot of effort into the production and features don’t feel like they’re only for the sake of it. Utopia better than Astroworld for me
my theory on the theme of utopia is that he finds the most happiness in his original dark production that he did in his earlier days and in the album it’s shown that utopia is where you feel happiest and i think that the cover being very similar to the original rodeo cover supports it and the fact he had production credits on nearly every song

I think travis hit the nail on head with it being named utopia, i get this is supposed to be a TRAVIS SCOTT ALBUM, but i think the point is that he took all the things that made him happy or made us all happy and relived these moments in a travis way
I never really try to dig deep into albums to figure out if I like them or not. I don’t know much about good production, or beat switches that are great, or even lyrics that would be considered impressive. All I know is the feeling I get when I listen to music that has a profound effect on me.

The "Circus Maximus" cut of the album feels a lot more concise (albeit, it omits Lost Forever). Cuts out a lot of the fat and makes it feel a little more consistent.
I think Travis did great with the content. Many people say he says nothing, but many of the cuts here talk about the good life in such a grimy way, that it's inspiring and sad at the same time. Take for examples, My Eyes, Thank God, Telekinesis, Fein, Hyena, Circus Maximus, Lost Forever, Sirens, Till Further Notice, Love. When one can feel that they relate to the lyrics both in an inspiring and depressing way, that is good content for someone who is heavy in the trap genre. Plus, even in songs where he isn't saying anything, the production and song structures make the songs very enjoyable. Maybe I'm just a big Travis fan, but I do think this project is the most unique and fulfilling project in his discography.
I liked utopia but I also felt like at times the main thing holding it back was travis himself and his performances. He brought together this production that at times sounded very high concept and experimental, but didn't really elevate his approach to rapping to accommodate those beats effectively. It also doesn't help that he doesn't talk about much on utopia. The album still feels kinda shallow given the 5 year wait and all he had been thru. To me it kinda feels like those big chocolate sculptures. When u break into it you expect it to be filled with a bunch of other treats, but this one felt a LITTLE hollow. Still a good album tho
I think we can all agree that Travis hasn't missed when it comes to full length projects overall. Matter of which one you like better is a reflection of you really
you think you ate so much with that caption. You wrote that description and jumped giddy with excitement. You wrote that description and I guess the real treasure was the friends we made along the way
@@vocecaiunocontodomalakoi7541 Thats just a better song. Probably his best honestly. When I say beautiful, it’s mainly production on the first half. Ethereal, atmospheric background to go with the soft melody/tone from Travis/Sampha. The rapping on the 2nd half is the icing on the cake in making a very complete track
I notice everyone who might not love it was expecting a second Astroworld since that’s where he got most of his new fans. Same with Kendrick. So many expected another Damn and didn’t get that, and are disappointed they didn’t get it. Which I understand to a degree. I myself expected to hear those psychedelic trap bangers. Another No Bystanders, Butterfly Effect, etc. But I’m honestly a bit glad I didn’t get that here. It easily could’ve just been a repeat, and instead Travis challenged himself to give us something we weren’t expecting to hear. And i personally don’t understand it being inspired by Kanye stuff/Yeezus being a criticism. Travis has clearly always been inspired by Kanye. I don’t disagree that some things clearly sound like Yeezus records, but we have to stop acting like him being around Kanye most of his career isn’t why this is prominent on like 5 songs. At least it’s not the entire album. But it’s definitely there. It’s still very much Travis on here. There’s More Owl Pharaoh, and Days Before Rodeo than Yeezus to me personally. But people who just started paying attention with Astroworld won’t get that. The same way there’s a lot of section.80 on MMTBS, but new listeners don’t know that. EDIT: Whether or not you liked Kendrick’s album is irrelevant here. I’m only bringing it up because it’s very reminiscent of what happened during that time. People had an idea of what the next would be because of the last. That’s all I’m talking about.
I was expecting another Rodeo.. and tbh this is the most he’s actually rapped in a WHILE - but I’m still struggling to connect with the album., it’s good - but IDK im just not feeling it.
Nah I was expecting him to actually up his rapping substance and talk about the very real shit that happened at the Astro world festival and actually be interesting but mf just rapped about the same shit again basically not saying shit he’s like an uninteresting Kanye
Bro needs to give Birds another listen. THE ENDS, WAY BACK COORDINATE, THRU THE LATE NIGHT, classic after classic. Travis had way better lyrics and these songs are way better than most of Astroworld and Utopia
After looking at the album credits for Yeezus it turns out Travis is only credited for like 3 songs on the album. Also with Utopia, Travis worked with a lot of the same ppl that Kanye used on Yeezus so maybe that’s why some songs sound so similar
@@noxazamiaeven if he was as heavily involved as you say (which he wasn't) wouldn't that just mean that songs like circus maximus are carbon copies of ideas he had 10 years ago? It just don't seem all that creative
@@blaque-n6n firstly they are still very creative ideas, but my angle is , he didn’t have to implement that creativity as big as he is , in a time where modern music / hits is soo formulaic. He could’ve literally gotten away with astroworld 2 with a bunch of hits (no discredit) but he chose to go absolutely left and made songs from actual concepts instead of beat packs from the biggest hip hop producers. Thats why I credit this new album so much and give it high regard. It also makes way for other aspiring artists to consider a more creative route as ye did for travis fr fr, instead of trying to make tiktok hitters to blow up
I think that Travis Scott is at his best when hes doing production on most tracks of his album. Thats why Rodeo is his best album and why Utopia is his second best. My opinion
I feel like the purpose of drakes outro on sirens is meant for people who listen to songs like modern jam and feel lost and unhappy with the album so far (the listener being the girl) and drake reassuring utopia is amazing.
Felt like an empty/hollow attempt to recreate a Kanye album. The extravagant production lead absolutely nowhere. Does Travis even have a personality or have anything to say other than he wears designer and nails models?
I just think it is baffling how people are criticizing this album, like have you heard other rap releases from this year? This is far and away the most progressive and risk taking rap project this year. And whether you like Travis or not as a rapper the production is insane. He is trying to do something different and gets cut down for it. Meanwhile other rappers can drop the same song on the same beat and some critic out there will say it is a classic.
Lol I could think every rap release in the past 10 years was bottom of the barrel garbage and it still would not stop me from calling a mediocre album what it is. I am not going to evaluate art based on how bad everything else is. Scaring the hoes is more experimental than this, and I don’t even think it’s actually high on that scale. And please explain what exactly is or experimental about this? I listen to a lot of experimental stuff and this isn’t. People (or critics at least) don’t dislike it bc it’s ‘experimental’. It’s the opposite. Travis doing the same shit that Kanye, Frank, Industrial scene artists, James Blake, or Bon Iver, or even himself did years ago is not experimental, it’s just inspired. I’ll give you the risk-taking part, but that’s it and only merits a nod to Travis himself, not the art which still must be evaluated. Experimental indicates some level of genuine groundbreaking novelty in the scene. Imo, the replay ability is low, Travis lacks character/substance, and y’all have been starved for so long that the recency bias is penetrating your psyche. I genuinely believe that most of the people glazing this album (as in 10/10 “instant classic”, not 7/10 or whatever) have a narrow music palette and over saturate themselves with mainstream crap or underground crap that’s imitating mainstream crap. Also the mixing/mastering was def a step down from previous works. This was not an attempt to change your mind, I respect your subjectivity. But you said the criticism was baffling so I attempted to give more insight.
@@CordienI recommend you go back to travis origins. He ORIGINALLY was working with kanye and had a similar sound to him. This album he goes back to his roots which is way more unique then his generic mainstream sounds over the past five years.

Thank you for making amazing content through out the last few years. Unlike other people, I respect your opinions and enjoy your takes on different music, albums, and different tastes. One day, I will invite you as a guest speaker, but of course when that time comes than. If you respond I would be highly appreciative. But if you don’t than that is fine. Enjoy both albums. And looking forward to new content.
I don’t get the hate Travis gets as a ‘rapper’. Just because he doesn’t give you double or triple entendres every bar doesn’t take away from his flow etc. I personally have him in the goat conversation because his production and project quality along with his (in my opinion) excellent vocals elevates him to the S tier
His lyrics be so surface level but the production is so deep. It clashes. That’s my opinion of it. The flows Are cool but on a beautiful ass beat I don’t want a generic verse. Maybe get a regular beat for the regular bars.
it’s because everyone keeps talking about Travis’s sonics, vibes, production, stadium flow etc. but he’s a rapper and rapping is the least talked about element of his album. for that reason there’s no way that this can be rap AOTY when Conway and Killer Mike gave us great production and ACTUALLY rapped at a high level.
Every opinion of a Travis fan always goes back to everything except rapping when anyone says something about his raps 😂Y’all are so tone deaf to the way people listen to music other than yourselves. “ItS NoT AbOuT ThAt WiTh TrAvIs 😢”

way back, the ends and pick up the phone are all incredible imo. my honest opinion is that birds is a great album but just gets a bad wrap because it’s compared to all of travis’ other albums, which are impeccable. (mainly rodeo, astroworld and utopia)
Man I've been a huge Travis fan since days before, and I can really say that this is probably the first time since rodeo that I've felt this happy after a Travis release😩
Astroworld was fire, but it's like Shawn said its mostly feature driven, so I felt a lot of distance between me as the listener and Travis. Utopia was a lot more personal, felt like he didn't leave room for any more to be desired on his part. He kept me fed throughout(pause😂)
ik people do tend to never listen to travis for the lyricism and tbh on this album his lyiricism is so so improved like it’s genuinely surprising how much better his lyricism is and the verse on my eyes is a great example cos he keeps one subject for the whole beat switch as well as mentioning the tragedy in a way that wasn’t offensive cos it was so easy to offend when mentioning it
Bro his lyricism sucks ass “I want a bi girl on a bicycle” like he really wasn’t saying shit listen to Kanye if you want actually interesting lyricism especially on Yeezus as compared to this stuck in 2018 trash
the lyricism is still pretty bad and arguably worse for how corny it can come off at times from him trying so hard. y’all just hear him flowing and him mentioning the astroworld thing and think that means his lyrics are better
5:48 I agree the feature placements were pretty good they didn’t stand over Travis in terms of presence on the tracks. They add to it without taking away from Travis
love how in that airin producer bar drake did on meltdown the sound he makes also has a double meaning. since the sound he makes can be interpreted as the gun airin out or like a film reel on play.

@@user-ds5lf3he3x thats fair but the thing is he does have bars, its not like traditional hip hop bars tho like smg u wud experience from kendrick or witty wordplay from MF Doom, its lyrics that go with the aesthetic/sonic presence of his music, dark and horror core driven. Once u understand that u will gain an appreciation of scotts lyrcism trust me. i went thru the same thing. also he did go deeper talking abt fatherhood, the astroworld casualty, he dropped some quotables, basically wut im saying is he does have lyrical talent, or else he wudnt b as famous as he is, but thats not his strength ur right, its his production/aesthetic which draws viewers like us.

I'm so greatful for the intention and thought behind it. You must hear this from the perspective of the biggest artist in music period. Because they are all involved here.
Respect the idea of Astroworld being more feature based and just a different album then Utopia. Astroworld’s features are what makes it memorable (to me) where as Rodeo and Utopia (like Shawn said) are Travis first with supporting features. Not the other way around like Astroworld

Musically the album was amazing. Not a Travis fan though so to me the album is missing an actual good rapper or singer. To me he just rides along with the music adding a little sprinkles here and there to be immersed in the kaleidoscope of sounds he has put together. The problem with that is, I would like to do that and have the artist navigate the journey through the music. Travis just lets the music do it, which is cool.
Shawn complementing Travis ?!?!?!?!?!? Must be dreaming

Circus Maximus is a banger, even if it sounds just like Black Skinhead, (which I don’t know what’s wrong with that). The theme behind it is great too.

My Eyes is the most beautiful song Travis has ever made
Nah the 2nd half of “Way Back” makes me feel like I’m wearing a black turtle neck with Cuban links.. its beautiful
Nah bro 90210
@@vocecaiunocontodomalakoi7541 Thats just a better song. Probably his best honestly. When I say beautiful, it’s mainly production on the first half. Ethereal, atmospheric background to go with the soft melody/tone from Travis/Sampha. The rapping on the 2nd half is the icing on the cake in making a very complete track
i think is one of his best songs, this one really got me
The fact that we debating bout 4 different GOATED Travis scott songs speaks volumes to his discography 😭😭😭bros tooo mf GOATED
Very freshing to hear a person speak their honest opinions
No. We were just not expecting Yeezus 2

Birds is a classic album very slept on dont think people actually listened to it
Nah nigga, birds is mid at best with a few good tracks
Y'all are right that the album kinda tapers off after the first 4-5 tracks
After looking at the album credits for Yeezus it turns out Travis is only credited for like 3 songs on the album. Also with Utopia, Travis worked with a lot of the same ppl that Kanye used on Yeezus so maybe that’s why some songs sound so similar
I think travis worked alot on thank god for drugs of kanye,,
If u think Travis’s production was soley locked into 3 tracks in yeezus while he was round ye that whole time idk what to tell u
@@noxazamiahe’s not thinking anything he’s going off facts 🤣🤣
It also makes way for other aspiring artists to consider a more creative route as ye did for travis fr fr, instead of trying to make tiktok hitters to blow up
Finally someone mentions Arca! She truly helped the change the sound of rap forever.
I think that Travis Scott is at his best when hes doing production on most tracks of his album. Thats why Rodeo is his best album and why Utopia is his second best. My opinion

Bro, you forget Astroworld on stargazing with thee COLDEST transition. That’s detail
Missed the biggest chance to go back to back with Drake in that second half of Meltdown; 4 bars each b2b could have topped Sicko Mode

SZA using that Marvin’s room flow
Travis got allot of bars on this album.. gotta look at the lyrics while listening
Glad to see someone mention arcas contributions to Yeezus
I just think it is baffling how people are criticizing this album, like have you heard other rap releases from this year? This is far and away the most progressive and risk taking rap project this year. And whether you like Travis or not as a rapper the production is insane. He is trying to do something different and gets cut down for it. Meanwhile other rappers can drop the same song on the same beat and some critic out there will say it is a classic.
It sounds the same as every other Travis song
It being better than all the other trash isn’t saying much.
