Can any physician tell me, why don’t they use any anesthesia for this procedure? Not even a little topical lidocaine? I feel like the fear of pain is a deterrent from some women getting this procedure. Performing this procedure with no pain management seems archaic.
I once asked a physician and they said if I wanted any pain or numbing I would have to be put under anesthesia and go into the operating room. But most insurances won't do it.
Local and topical numbing don't really do anything, because the worst pain is the contractions. We need to have options for sedation or full anasthesia.
Got mine done a day ago. Kept reading how painful it was so I planned to have it inserted on my period which makes things easier (HIGHLY RECOMMEND). I’ve been pregnant and pushed a kid out so it really didn’t even hurt. To be fair I was given a pain blocker.. the worst part was having the speculum open my vagina 😐. I consider myself very sensitive to pain but the insertion really wasn’t bad.
The cervix is the shape of a tube so it does actually have a natural central opening (called the cervical canal). Most people do not require dilation as the insertion device is thin enough to pass through. If they need dilation it is a single dilator, not multiple.
@@drgrahamdersnahwhy aren’t physicians talking about the tenaculum ? In my case, this was the part that hurt the most .. not the actual insertion in itself ..
I wish it was this quick!! Watching this made my uterus want to shrivel up and die though hahaha, I'll clench my teeth through the pain because they're so worth it!! I love my copper IUD!
Mine was pain free, had it for 6yrs. I’m surprised to see so many are saying it was painful. Only watching these videos because I’m finally getting it taken out and wanted to see what it’s like
@@carro6171 actually just gotten it taken out last week! And it was pretty much pain free too. There was a slight cramp when it was pulled out but nothing crazy. Yours would probably be not that bad either
They don't, it's totally by look and feel probably. Legit talked with someone who worked briefly in an OBGYN office and we spoke about IUDs ... They pierce through the top of the uterus a lot and completely push it out for some people. Isn't that great 😬
@@sphinxwidget Is perforation a risk? Absolutely. But if the person you spoke to, who only worked in an office briefly, said perforation happens a lot, I'd be more wary of that particular OB/GYN!
Wait. It was that easy!?!? WHY DID I BLEED FOR 2 MONTHS!?!? THEN my stupid body rejects everything so after feeling weird after I FINLLYTstopped bleeding, it had to be removed!!! Aaaaaahhhhhh!!!!! Thank you for the info tho!
For most people it is, people black out from this procedure. People even have a horrible time driving home afterward too, continue to bleed, etc. There's not enough talk on how painful this is, or what can be done about the pain. There's also lack of truthfulness in how bad it is to the point that 'professionals' are dismissive of patients concerns, experiences etc He's completely skipping over a step too, in which they use a device called a tenaculum. It's like forceps but it ends in sharp hooks, this pierces the cervix to hold it in place.
And yet that’s not the most traumatic part.. the most traumatic one is that they pierce your cervix with a tenaculum to help with stabilisation and orientation
Didn't feel mine at all when it was put in but I had only had a baby 8 weeks before. I'm wondering how painful it is for removal though 😬 I've got about 2 years left but trying to prepare myself now 😂
Worst mistake of my life! Terribly painful and I’ve had two kids. They recommended it for my heavy, painful periods. It did nothing for me. Decided to get it removed. Threads were missing. Ultrasound confirmed it and it’s out of place. Heading for an X-ray next. Terrified. Might need surgery they said. Medical professionals downplay the pain. Don’t do it!
IUDs don't prevent pregnancy by blocking the cervix, check out my longer video which explains how they work. Most use the hormone progesterone and one uses copper. Thanks for watching! -> ua-cam.com/video/ziygWbbqXag/v-deo.html
I had the same procedure done 5 years ago and some times ago the string fell off . Can anyone explain how the remove it as im very scared to go get it removed
Your provider may first do an ultrasound to confirm it is still in the uterus or if it fell out entirely (not just the strings). If it is still in place then they can try to grasp the end with forceps. If they cannot then you will likely need to go to the OR and they will look with a camera and remove it.
I just had my 2nd IUD placed. I had a skyla, then went back on the pill for a few years, and then had to stop the pill due to breast cancet and got the paragard. It was a goddamn nightmare both times, though it was worth it. These model uteruses are trash, I'm sorry. There has to be something that better demonsteates the structures that you're ramming that thing through.
It is hard to say because everyone has a different experience and pain tolerance. Some people have no problem at all while others find it very painful.
My doctor had me come in when my cycle started and it was done pretty quickly. But there is a lot of discomfort that first day. But the discomfort could last longer depending on the person. I also spotted for a month until my next cycle. Other than that i haven’t had any issues.
Mirena was a NIGHTMARE I bleed every day for 6 months and then I couldn’t take it no more and got it removed! The worst thing ever you will lose your mind!

What about the part where they manually dilate your cervix - it’s not just magically open like that omg
