I'm right in the middle of this exact problem in my old Morris. A little bit of 'mayonnaise' in the oil cap and loss of coolant via the overflow. Turned out to be a head gasket with a subtle leak. Unfortunately it happened a long time ago. The previous elderly owner barely used the car in his last years. Starting and running great, but never really getting up to temp much. It then sat for a decade and actually started to rust inside the block. At some stage a small amount must have come off. It was only that we decided to pull the pistons to check them as there were a couple of stains in one bore that I found very bad scoring in some rod bearings, fortunately the crank is pretty good. So a slight head gasket leak over 12 years has resulted in a whole rebuild...😮
Given the amount of oil the engine holds and the weight of the block it may just be a temperature issue. These engines just don't get warm enough when driven over short distances.
