wow cant wait for the tandem caleb upload in 10 seconds
Yeah, it's always better...
Impressed by the dedication it took to get a chainsmokers voice for the smokefilter review
In a world of "why hasn't Fujifilm released the XPro4" UA-cam fodder, this comes as a refreshing break. Loving PoV footage, the commentary and, of course, the results. This kind of video inspires.
So no chugging? Kodak was just about to unveil Aerochrome, but after watching this episode they went "well, it seems Jason doesn't need it anymore now that he got the Tiffen Smoque 3 filter" and cancelled.
Jason, besides the very interesting content, I very much enjoy your humor in the story telling! Thanks for sharing!
babe wake up, my favorite monotone voice youtuber uploaded
If you do a follow up, I"d be interested to see this filter in action during more daytime or early evening/morning shots....just to see how it works with more light....redscale AND regular....
Would it do cool stuff with B&W too?
Thanks for another great video!!
CC
Never heard of those filters before but they look pretty cool! Would be interesting to see what they look like in daylight with a regular colour negative film
Unless you enlarge/print in analog, a Lightroom presets works the same or better. E.g. Orton Effect, or graduated haze + color adjustment.
winter time I usually breathe on the lens and get the same effect :D
@@DixonLu I’m sorry but that’s just not correct, digital diffusion is good but you can almost always tell. Practical effects almost always look better when done correctly.
love the vibe of all of these! and it's fun to see someone play around with different filters, i feel like a lot of people overlook them
Second classic pastry shot is so GOOD! It is haunted AF. Beautiful work man. So happy I found your channel.
The laugh after your “Does this look like a lighthouse?” Joke tells you how much she loves you. Speaking of, I think we should see other people. I found someone else, he may have bad flashes but he’s taller so its ok.
Reminds me of the Cinebloom 20% which isn’t exactly the same by any means but also adds haze, glow, lowers the contrast and adds some warmth
Classic Pastry. Such a good image. I like what this filter has to offer.
Dude, you’ve totally hit your stride, keep these coming! Hope you feel better soon.
Some of the best photos yet
Love this filter. I have the 2, but want an even stronger effect so I gotta try the 3
Hey man, I wanted to thank you for your channel. I've gotten my Nikon FM2n out of the closet and started shooting again. And I bought another prime lens too. 🙏😎📷
jason, i know most of your photos are probably deemed pedestrian by yourself, but you are so fucking inspiring and every single one of them is so fucking cool to me regardless of how trivial you end up thinking they may be.
i live in sydney and i remember that dust storm in 2009. it was insane, i woke up to go to school and this biblical red nightmare had just settled over everything. i remember seeing for a week dusty cars everywhere
Some solid photography as always!
The edge in your voice when you say that was at 1/30, ik that feeling 😅
I love your videos, keep up the good work Jason, Baxter and Monica
Always great getting the look in camera
Also, are you disappointed in the filter? 7:47
Love your content Jason. And yeah, I agree with good ole honest Abe the Smoque filter is pretty dope.
That intro gave off "I'm going to jump" vibe. Loved it!
loving the red scale content
Jason makes the depression go away. Thank you.
Thats because he takes it all upon himself.
wise words from Lincoln at the end, I live by those
I actually really like the whole vibe you were going for! Round 2 maybe?
I've been on a similar trajectory. I have a #4 Promist that I have been using to make gas stations and food trucks look cool. But then I feel i have to take a shower afterward because I am betraying some vague documentary aesthetic. And then I still go out and use it again.
Jason, have you explored printing with your photography? Do you print yourself? I’d love to see you make a video about it, whether you’re learning about it or if you’ve got experience
He sells prints on his Instagram I think, it really would be cool if he made a video about printing
That dust storm was wild, i woke up with the flavour of dirt in my mouth and a lot of cleaning to do.
Yes! Sir Rodger Deakins actually used filters for that scene! Quote: "I don’t like to do an overall color correction in the DI. I had a series of Maxi Brutes with yellow gel on them but the much larger array of Spacelites were clean. To gel thos lamps would have been expensive so I had the orange filter made specifically so that I would achieve the color combination I was after in camera." - Rodger Deakins (also... seeing the tennis courts near Griffith and the original Tommy's is making me miss LA a little bit... only a little. Perfect filter for Chinatown!)
Dude, everything you buy (with Monica's money ) is high price and low niche, I like it.
Jason, you should consider doing more night photography. Dope work brother! 🔥🔥
would be cool to see this lens filter used with an infrared B&W film stock. Perhaps you could get a type of Kodak HIE look
Why don’t you redscale 800T in 35mm? Redrum looks a lot like Blade Runner scene. It’s also faster.
Those shots in Blade Runner 2049 are 🤘I hope Tiffen enjoys the bump in sales.
Great job man!! Loved this one..
Classic Pastry is some of your best stuff yet imho. The hazy poltergeist red is particularly fine.
Reminds me I actually shot Cinestill Redrum on 120 on a foggy morning. I’ve really got to take a look at the negatives again. 🤔
I love how a the 5 minute mark, you are using the Smoque filter to add Smokiness right next to a sign that says SMOG Check! 😝
Who want smoque!? Jason does. He does.
No! The video is over already! Come back and do more, my breakfasts are too dull without them
Cool filter nice effect!
In this episode, Jason tries to recreate haboobs, the funniest word for getting sand-blasted raw, without moving to Lubbock, Texas in the fall.
A cooler, more enigmatic word would be "Khamsin"
evoking scenes from Lawrence of Arabia.
Very interesting idea!
The step-up ring struggle is real. I lost my 49mm-52mm ring over the winter, and now I have to buy an entirely new set. T_T
Seeing images from NYC under red cloud cover made me think of your great work with this look. I wonder if you thought about making a special trip to shoot in it, while other scurry in fear.
Love this video❤
talking about filters, I put a -12dB low shelf at around 120Hz over this video and it did magic
Those white mattes are intense
Humorous and informative!
I think Lomo Red scale on a foggy morning in the mountains would make for a really cool shoot.
my zod these are beautiful
Have you driven over to Tiffin over on Winona ave and talked to them about try out any of the full catalog of filters? I have been able to get a group of filters in the past for movies i was shooting.
I heard the m6 has image stabilization so you were solid with all those night shots.
Really dig the shots around 3:30. This whole red scale journey has been cool to come along for.
Also, tell me more about how I can use a website to promote my passion for sleeping in on the weekends, I am listening
So much Smoque it was Cheech y Chong!!! Up in Smoque, let's get visually Stoned!!! Love your videos.
Ever since i saw your video about the smoque filters i'm on the fence and every time i check it's basically unobtainium in europe. Very frustrating, i think this look can open ways to some very creative shots.
About once a year, during fire season, we'll get this look for free in the PNW.
I like it how it is and I'm glad you didn't back up more.
You need as much light as a TV studio for that Smoque hangover!
very informative. thank you. may I ask, which filter you used on the videocamera?
I just carry around a smoke machine with me where ever I go.
Curious how this would look with 800t. I wonder if the hallations would look good with the haze or if they would just bulge and take up too much of the photo.
With diffusion filters in general halations get less prominent since the light source gets spread out over a larger area. With a Tiffen 3 you probably wouldn't get that signature red glow around lightsources
where can i get, the or similar camera straps you use
Banger as always :D
If you were to buy it again to use with redscale, would you still go with the Smoque 3, or take it down a notch to the Smoque 2?
I find I tend to overdo it in regards to filters, in the excitement of trying something new.
I keep forgetting the rule of "everything in moderation".
Everyone watching this is concentrating so hard on diffusion, it would really help to let us know what filter is on the BTS camera so we can stop thinking about it!
Pls do another one of these on the X-pan sometime! 😊🙏🏻
i havent seen a gitzo tripod since the 80's... +1
Loved this video Jason!
Your atmospheric photos are always so successful and I hope you continue shooting more like this.
❤
I'm waiting for the new M6 with IBIS. It really is necessary with film, cuz you can't crank the ISO very high.
Should try this film and filter combo with the piano camera. Would look super cool... Or warm 😂
So good! I am amZed! ❤ redscale!
How do you decide what exposure to use? Are you using a spot meter? Are you metering for the highlights?
Good question, I would like to know the answer!!
Smoque it baby!
Does anyone know what tripod he used?
Cinematic AF daddy 🥵
They just release some Rings of Power BTS on the ARRI channel about how they created the “post volcano” environment and they use similar techniques with the warm filters
What tripod are you using for your M6 in this video?
theres spme magic in your grains
What camera head do you use on the Leica tripod?
What kind of tripod and head are you using?
hey man was wondering what camera u used to actually record this video
I've been applying the "wear your airpods" while shooting 8x10 and it does work. If you feel lonely one day, just need to get out with that camera and wear no air pods, if you don't make 10 friends or get a random std with someone, you are doing something wrong.
Seems like some people cant mind their business.
If I see a stranger intent on a task, even if Im curious I just watch from a distance.
But then, Im somewhat of an introvert and I dislike unsolicited.....interactions.
Yeah, Im the life of the party.
what tripod are you shooting the leica on? Thank you :)
The airpods tip is a good tip. People will still fuck with you in any city, though. Small towns is where it's at at night.
LA's most wanted arsonist
I’m very impressed that you can hand hold at 1/15. At night
What tripod do you use?
I love the 4:3
This audio sounding crisp af...what's the mic?
Ever see the movie "Super 8"? When I see this smoke filter I hear the little fat kid who was making the movie yell "PRODUCTION VALUE!"
Great stuff.
Tiffen and Smores 'D I like how you say your not sponsored by Tiffen....did something happen? that set u two apart?
I never used fog filters but, Marumi from Japan has Foggy filter I wish I had the opportunity to try it...
Now we need a redscaled Cinestill 800T video to close this redscale series
Im binge watching all your videos help ;-;
Great 💥
Why did you shoot at night while the Bladerunner scenes you're refering to take place at daylight?
Name of tripod head?
