Something I can't give Cena enough credit for is how vulnerable he let's himself be, both physically and emotionally, a lot of wrestlers when they transition to action star showing so little weakness, Peacemaker wouldn't be half as good with Cena really getting a chance to show off his range
100% agree. I had massive doubts about this series going in, despite Gunn's record. I mean, Cena played Peacemaker well in the movie, but he wasn't a particularly deep character (they even make a joke about how he has the exact same origin story as Bloodsport) and he pretty much turned full villain half way through. That didn't sound like something that would make for a compelling protagonist. And then very early on in the series we're introduced to his white supremacist, sexist, homophobic father and I'm like, holy crap where's this all going. But very quickly Cena established his character as much more than all of this. His origin story is pretty heartbreaking, and Cena really sells the way it obviously deeply affects him to this day (the scene in the classroom where the kid asks if he has an origin story and he just has this dead look on his face and he's like "not in the traditional sense" - really powerful). The origin of his code and his struggle with it, his struggle with breaking from the one person he's relied on all this time, to make himself vulnerable enough to join a new team, the way he comes to realise how his own actions are hurting others - it's all so good. I never would have thought Cena would have had the range needed to pull all of this off (so early in his acting career too). The only thing I'm worried about is that they will do a reset of Peacemaker's character for season 2. The heart of the show was watching him grow as a person, and I'm not sure how you do a season 2 without reining back on some of that growth, which would be a shame.
Yeeeah. We know who ya mean,, I dont like Dewey Johnson either.. we all know he sucks and his movies bomb/blow. Get this... Die Hard, only the main character is an Ox..... with a prosthetic leg. Revolutionary i tell

It's crazy to me that they went to the effort to reshoot all of Vigilante's scenes for a full five and a half episode. I mean, he very quickly becomes an integral part of the show and he's heavily featured in so many scenes. The fact that they didn't take a cheaper workaround (like just killing him off and replacing him with a copycat character) really shows a dedication to the craft. As did Patty Jenkins with the first WW, David Sandberg did with Shazam and James Wan did with Aquaman. Only two particularly directors complain about WB interference and they happen to be the two directors that refuse to stick with the parameters they've agreed to. Disappointed there is no (legal) way to watch it in the UK, hope WB sorts their distribution out before moving forward with the second season and spin off.
I liked _Peacemaker_ a lot, but what I really liked about it is that it _explains_ the titular character, but it doesn't _excuse_ him. A rough childhood does not a shit-tonne of murder (and possibly more) excuse.
I loved when vigilante was getting his ass kicked by judomaster and he said "uh no! fuck this! no way! it's over! you won! fair fight! I gotta go!fuck!"

Batman is expected to be somewhere else since from what I know he isn't a complete member of the league like from the animated show he doesnt show up when the league are surending themselves
He'd do a Silver Age Batman with Bat-Mite and Ace the Bat-Hound and aliens and time travel and shit and *still* sell it. Though it would probably also be as violent as The Dark Knight Returns.
As the one and only Vigilante fan in the world this show broke my heart for a bit but I came to like their version. Just wish they used someone else like Red Tool.

The reason his dad looks bigger on the stoop is cause the Gunn wanted to pretray that inside peacekeeper, he feels like his dad more him than his is. B.E.A.utiful ending shot!
For me it is better than daredevil because it has the right amount of episodes and has no filler. I love daredevil but it is a few episodes too long each season.
Look I can see the similarities between this and the suicide squad in the way that the butterflies are similar to starro, but I think the butterflies were done much better. Compare them wanting to save humanity because of their own past to starro just being pissed at people experimenting on him and just wanting to be alone. People are saying they’re literally the same forgetting that and ignoring that starro is a hive mind where the butterflies are individuals who remember their own lives when they take people over. I think that’s better tbh
I think because Vigilante was so popular, and James Gunn said he hasn’t fully written the second season yet, that he’ll put in a lot more about the character’s backstory.
I do believe this is the best DC live action thing yet but my guys blue beetle has a following not the old one but the second with the scarab he is one of the few Mexican superheroes and one of my favorites it does the venom movie thing of one voice choose extreme violence and the other wants to just help
0:32 as I mentioned on the pod thread, James Gunn didn't move over to DC "back accident" the Alt-Right dug up his old tweets and Disney fired him. They re-hired him when they decided the dead baby tweets weren't worth losing out on literally *a billion dollars* if he didn't make Guardians 3. Mickey Mouse loves money. It seems like everyone has completely forgotten what actually happened hahaha
No dizzy they told James Gunn we're going to fire you and then hire you back once the heat dies down that's why James Gunn never spoke out against Disney. Not really anything new.
I think Disney realised that alt-right Karens are numerically so small that their commercial influence is negligible. That is why "go woke, go broke" has repeatedly been shown to be false.
I thought the reason it was similar to suicide squad because when he got the thing saying project butterfly he was like "oh is this like project starfish its not a mothra is it?" But its small mind controlling butterflies. I kind of thought it was a joke it was slightly similar.
I think it's in Grant Morrisons multiversity Theresa story called Pax Americana where they do watchmen with these characters Dr manhatton is captain atom
One thing that did annoy me a little is that there wasn’t more emphasis on Rick flags death and how it changed him, because right from the get go it feels like peacemaker is a different character. He is much less serious and doesn’t seem to believe in his whole kill as many men women and children thing, even know after killing Rick flag he still tried to kill rat catcher 2. Also wasn’t a didn’t like that the threat felt much larger then the threat in the suicide squad, and I know they have reasons as to why they could only use this small team, but even then they still call in for back up but only way after they have learnt the magnitude of the threat.
Well the no back up thing is explained in show also the show literally deals with why he kills less because of him killing Rick flag and him realizing that his kill for peace thing makes no sense and he's trying to change his ways

I wouldn't say that Peacemaker is the *best* comic book adapted series, but it's definitely at least *best in class.* What I mean by that is, comic book to film/show adaptations really fall into two main genres. 1) The "Serious" Superhero film, that is trying to be more of a drama and grounded in reality, very light on comedy (and sometimes no comedy). Batman Begins, Logan, Daredevil (show) 2) The light-hearted, "Fun" Superhero film. Often adult humor. Guardians of the Galaxy. Suicide Squad (the good one). Deadpool. (Then you have a lot of the other Marvel movies and Spiderman, a mix of both) Peacemaker obviously falls in that second category. And for that category, it's definitely the best comic TV adaptation made so far. Bravo. Very entertaining. (I just wouldn't go so far as to call it even better than say a Netflix Daredevil or Punisher - which were also incredible, but completely different, they fall in the first group)
Pre-acquisition Captain Atom was the inspiration for Dr Manhattan, and re-vamped post-acquisition Captain Atom had more than moderate success over a number of years. Also, the original Charlton version was a co-creation of none other than Steve Ditko. Yes, THAT Steve Ditko.
Other than Batman and maybe Wolverine, the most entertaining way to present superhero characters is with fun, light-hearted stories featuring well choreographed action
Ezra Miller might have folded two cameos together here. He popped up on the Flash, and then Peacemaker. Both of these were shot in Vancouver. Jason Momoa spent a few years shooting in Van, so he had clearance.
I did like the show but I didn’t think it was as good as everyone says it is. I think the comedic moments are good, but by the end of the show I was tired of there being a comedic moment at a point when there shouldn’t have been one. Still a good show

@@sain1536 It wasn't a good look prostrating himself in apology but at the same time I don't think any of his peers would have the balls to say the same statement that got him in trouble. Ask the Rock or Bautista about Taiwan and see what they say.
If DC can pump out future shows just as good as Peacemaker, then i'm all for it!
Well peacemaker is a pretty high bar. I'd like it to be close. Close is good enough for me lol. Also, what's up with all this spam 😄
Doom Patrol is also great if you want more weird live-action DC series
Peacemaker had no right to be as good as it was, but it was all thanks to James Gunn and John Cena. This show's story is impecable, and so fun! The Suicide Squad was also a great, great film. I'm stoked for Season 2.
@@Knarki Watchmen was amazing, too.
Even doom patrol and watchmen were great.
After seeing this show, I understand why Dave Bautista said he won’t do GOTG without James Gunn. This show goes to show that if studios just let the writers and directors do their thing, they can make a great fucking show.
Without a doubt, I haven’t been this excited for another season of a show in a long time.
I may have missed it, but did you know Adrian Chase was the big villain for a season of _Arrow_ named Prometheus instead of Vigilante for reasons I forget. There was also a _different_ Adrian Chase from another timeline who _was_ named Vigilante, in the _Flashpoint_ crossover but we never see his face. So I guess that makes four actors to have played the role?
Loved the Justice league cameo, wasn’t expecting it at all
Hope Superman (Henry Cavill) comes back to the DCEU
To quote Vigilante, "#MeToo."
That was so shoehorned in. It was a mistake IMHO, it was corny and aweful looking. If they couldn't afford the actual scene then why bother?
@@robertfrost8264 it wasn’t shoehorned in it felt deserved and they on,y had Jason Mamoa and Ezra Miller cuz there are movies with them coming out
The JL cameo scene was just as bad as ‘Superman” in Shazam.
@@ajclements4627 You at least saw two of their faces and they had lines...and it even made sense with the story.
This shows imo definitely showed that 8 is the right ammount of episodes to work on the characters but have a nice story, wereass 6 is NOT enough.
somehow a some of the marvel movies feel both too rushed and too drawn out from episode to episode
I still prefer 10-12
As long as it's not 20 episodes I'm good. 20 + means filler episodes.
Disappointed there is no (legal) way to watch it in the UK, hope WB sorts their distribution out before moving forward with the second season and spin off.
No HBO Max? It doesn't come on at night during the week?
@@Super_Broly HBO max isn't available in the UK because of a contract with Sky, no hints from sky when they will release the episodes
Do you have Foxtel in the uk? Cause in Australia peacemaker dropped on that
@@elugg18 I don't think we do
Torrent it bro!
Did no one else think the cow looked an awful lot like Insectosaurus from Monsters VS Aliens?
I thought I was the only one who immediately made this connection… they look identical
I also love how a bunch of non dancers committed to a whole dance routine and the t-1000 did a hip move with the sploosh
Finally a video about peacemaker. I’ve been waiting.
Its literally a segment cut out of their podcast. You could have listened to this since Monday.
I liked _Peacemaker_ a lot, but what I really liked about it is that it _explains_ the titular character, but it doesn't _excuse_ him. A rough childhood does not a shit-tonne of murder (and possibly more) excuse.
My favorite outtake is when the guy who looks like the monster from I am legend it's trying to fake cry over the cops he just killed
I loved when vigilante was getting his ass kicked by judomaster and he said "uh no! fuck this! no way! it's over! you won! fair fight! I gotta go!fuck!"
i still can’t fathom how a show about a chinese ice cream salesman fighting alien bugs that want to stop climate change is the DCEU’s best content
The theme song is amazing. If you have any other song in your head, that song will wash it away. I call it "Musical Dran-O"
I mean we live in a world where the best tv shows dc has put out recently is peacemaker, doom patrol and god damn star girl like if that doesn’t speak volumes about the weird state of wb & dc right now idk what will
Superman and Lois is goddamn incredible
Great show, was hesitant at first but it turned out great for each episode. Great review too!
I love that Eagly just keeps bringing him dead animals to cheer him up.
Most animals will think you have them to hunt cats and dogs kill small animals all the times for their owners
@@postsniper-7532crows too
You can never get a beat on the DCEU. They’re “best” thing changes so frequently and it’s always to the strangest characters.
I mean, if something's "best thing" never changes then it's stale and not evolving. The fact that the new stuff coming out is increasingly better and better is a very good and healthy thing
Oh wow, how terrible, we get new greasy things too frequently! The horror!
I never thought Eagly was a real eagle, but there were times I thought maybe he was a puppet
People are finally understanding the greatness that is John Cena. He makes money anywhere he goes, he's professional, he busts his ass and he delivers time after time. And he's been hustling like that for 17 years now. I'm so proud of that dude, it warms my heart.
Also, his piano cover of Home Sweet Home was heartbreaking
I would say that they were successful in making an unskippable intro, I binged the whole season in one sitting and didn't skip once
I’m astonished they never mentioned how Vigilante refers to vampires as being “a Dracula” just like James does
😂😂
This intro was one of the greatest live action intros ever created if not the greatest
Doom patrol is under-rated but peacemaker is great
Agreed, the banter and humour in that is also good.
Stop making that poor eagle hold that pose.
It's pretty crazy that we nearly got Watchmen starring Peacemaker, Captain Atom, Blue Beetle and The Question in place of the characters we actually got. The way we view those characters would forever have been completely different if that had happened.
(Also, Mr Sunday/UA-cam really has to do smth about the spam bots in the replies)
I’m gonna guess captain atom dies
More like UA-cam needs to do something about the spam bots. It's a platform-wide issue that they easily have the resources to fix.
@@qwertyferix PLATFORM WIDE, it's ridiculous, they aren't even hitting unpopular vids, just ones that get a high amount of traffic on release.
@@l0u13__3 the comedian was originally peacemaker
Lmao the spam bots doubled up on ur comment
Cyborg, Batman, Martian Manhunter, and Shazam we’re simply on another mission somewhere else
Batman is expected to be somewhere else since from what I know he isn't a complete member of the league like from the animated show he doesnt show up when the league are surending themselves
@@kylemccabe1863 yeah, he's busy buying some more short shorts for his little boy wonder
James Gunn is a madman and he's gotten to work with both of the Big Two. What a legend, am I right?
Doom Patrol still hold the lead for me. But that's not anything about Peacemaker not being good enough. Doom Patrol is just amazing
Doom Patrol is underrated. Albeit messy at times. Their last season was all over the place. Still a great show
All 3 seasons have been really solid for me and there wasn't any huge noticable dip in quality for me.
After a crap week love seeing theres a new vid really improves my mood
i never skipped the intro
I trust that whatever changes James Gunn would make to Batman would feel 100% more like Batman than Zack Snyder got away with.
He'd do a Silver Age Batman with Bat-Mite and Ace the Bat-Hound and aliens and time travel and shit and *still* sell it. Though it would probably also be as violent as The Dark Knight Returns.
Bruh batman was a murdering machine yes but I think Zach wanted a broken batman who over time becomes the batman we know
I love shows like this that are just stupid unapologetic fun.
I had a blast each week with this.
As the one and only Vigilante fan in the world this show broke my heart for a bit but I came to like their version. Just wish they used someone else like Red Tool.
18:30 pretty sure I saw Mr Mind in an episode I’ll check times and update later but there was a scene where they panned up to a window and there was a tree with Mr. Mind on it
The butterflies are completely original and just reused from an old story James Gunn wrote
They NEED to get Snowflame in season 2. This is the ONE show where that character can work. Don't miss out on this DC.
Yessssss! Perfection. Need another wrestler to play him
Well we got them in Harley Quinn. Which was a surprise when I realised who it was but not when it came to understanding why that show chose to use them.
Vigilante gives me kick ass vibes in the show
Funny that the comedian was supposed to be Peacemaker since Peacemaker would be totally on board with Ozy's plan and wouldn't need to be murdered.
Peacemaker as he was *before* the events of this story, anyway.
The reason his dad looks bigger on the stoop is cause the Gunn wanted to pretray that inside peacekeeper, he feels like his dad more him than his is. B.E.A.utiful ending shot!
My second favorite superhero TV show ever, after Daredevil.
@@voladisco They're both in my top 5
That’s pretty big being it’s only been 1 season 🤩
For me it is better than daredevil because it has the right amount of episodes and has no filler. I love daredevil but it is a few episodes too long each season.
@@splitint3021 you must be joking.
We all know that Inhumans can't be topped.
The only intro I never skipped.
Can we just talk about the music in this show? So amazing
Loved this series
Im throwing my dog the invisible bone.
To answer the title; yes
I agree, best show ever....loved the actors, they had great chemistry with each other, Vigilante is my favorite 😁 GREAT SHOW !
I think this show would be the best way to do the darkseid invasion without having to do a second justice league movie
He had killed flag like, less than an hour before he tried to kill rat catcher 2. He had not processed his actions like, at all yet.
This really helped on a 4hr train journey guys! Ty! Also robert pattrick is such a great guy in person, met him last year so funny and so chill! It's crazy how good he plays a horrible guy lol
James Gunn is DCs best “property”
God I hope Peacemaker and Robotman can meet and make fun of other superheroes.
🤔...now...its possible a "butterfly" shot up my ass back in '68. Gunna have to do a colonoscopy i guess. Only way to be sure.
On the topic of the unskippable intro, it's genuinely amazing that it goes from campy and funny to more and more dissonant and somewhat uncomfortable, by the end it feels like a coping mechanism
One of the other Intro's that I never skipped was The Expanse!
boy, i love you guys
I wouldn't say that Peacemaker is the *best* comic book adapted series, but it's definitely at least *best in class.*
What I mean by that is, comic book to film/show adaptations really fall into two main genres.
1) The "Serious" Superhero film, that is trying to be more of a drama and grounded in reality, very light on comedy (and sometimes no comedy). Batman Begins, Logan, Daredevil (show)
2) The light-hearted, "Fun" Superhero film. Often adult humor. Guardians of the Galaxy. Suicide Squad (the good one). Deadpool.
(Then you have a lot of the other Marvel movies and Spiderman, a mix of both)
Peacemaker obviously falls in that second category. And for that category, it's definitely the best comic TV adaptation made so far. Bravo. Very entertaining.
(I just wouldn't go so far as to call it even better than say a Netflix Daredevil or Punisher - which were also incredible, but completely different, they fall in the first group)
The Boys is better than Peacemaker.
I need more Eagley and Vigilante.
Pre-acquisition Captain Atom was the inspiration for Dr Manhattan, and re-vamped post-acquisition Captain Atom had more than moderate success over a number of years. Also, the original Charlton version was a co-creation of none other than Steve Ditko. Yes, THAT Steve Ditko.
there were some bits that i did not like but most of it i loved.
You guys need to review Doom Patrol. Another great DC show!
Other than Batman and maybe Wolverine, the most entertaining way to present superhero characters is with fun, light-hearted stories featuring well choreographed action
Vigilante reminds me of Krombopulos Michael from Rick and Morty, just a happy, pleasant killer.
They finally gave Freds Dad a tv show
I enjoyed this show quite a bit; solid mix of emotion, gore, weird, and (I felt) good character development.
The last episode really upset me on how much the team fumbled about ... Messing up the'mission' over and over
Only other tv comic property I can compare it to as having a clear vision of a writer/director (though a completely different tone) is FX’s Legion
I never liked Cena as wrestler or as actor, but his peacemaker (in the movie and here) was great and I love we will see more of it
Ezra Miller might have folded two cameos together here. He popped up on the Flash, and then Peacemaker. Both of these were shot in Vancouver. Jason Momoa spent a few years shooting in Van, so he had clearance.
I think the villain they tried to take from the comics was Insect Queen
Keep up the awesome work!!
I did like the show but I didn’t think it was as good as everyone says it is. I think the comedic moments are good, but by the end of the show I was tired of there being a comedic moment at a point when there shouldn’t have been one. Still a good show
Did anyone mention the bomb in Peacemaker's head? I dont recall them removing it.
@MelloWattz I'd have to rewatch it, glad they did though, can't wait for another season.
Peacemaker is an amazing series John Cena was the perfect guy for this Role I can't decide which DC show is the best peacemaker or Superman and Lois I'll say for right now Superman and Lois still remains my number one favorite DC show of all time right now and peacemaker come in second place at third place is Titans
How bout? They all good shows. You don't need to rank them for no reason.
I would put Harley Quinn above Peacemaker too and Swamp Thing.
Titans? That show sucks, literally the only good thing about it is that it had a backdoor pilot for Doom Patrol, which is actually good
Great review...very indepth! This was like reading the manual but more fun :) Do people even read manuals anymore though...lol. Great job on your video :)
The answer…. Is YES
