Im 35 years old. I first this song when i was in El Salvador my home country as a kid i was no more than 10. We spoke only spanish it felt nice his voice... Years later here in the US and learning english and understanding what he said. Lord i do hold back the years cause i remember everything from that time.

For context, in recent decades this singer has not been exactly favoured for his choices, but in his youth I feel he had much better judgement and feeling - as I have long believed we all do. The overlay of society is totally damaging. It remains powerful on that basis.
There are a few artists out there that do still do this, but songs about serious intro-spection, inner-reflection and creating time for self re-evaluation are not really something you expect to hear on the radio anymore unfortunately. Even in '85 this was becoming a more rare bird on radio as compared to more of the civil rights inspired folk era of the 60s and 70s, although those were mostly a call for change, rather than a true genuine reflection on one's own life.
