THE SABBATICAL - Episode 10: Middle of Earth / Middle of Nowhere (Mindo & Quito, Ecuador)

We are definitely not in Tokyo anymore!
After a month in Japan, we cross hemispheres and head to Ecuador - but not without a short layover in Los Angeles.
Given the lengthy travel time and 10 hours of time zones we had to cross, we decide to lay low for a bit in the cloud forest of Mindo, about three hours outside of Ecuador's capital city of Quito.
Steve, Marlene and William spend 5 days at an AirBnB in the jungle, surrounded by only birds, bugs and animals. Without a cell signal and without a person in sight, the trio takes in the sights, spot a few monkeys and cast a fishing line.
After recovering from the jet lag, we head back to Quito for the reason we made the journey in the first place - the wedding of our good friends Emi and Nacho. The sabbatical continues in Quito.

“The Sabbatical” is a hobby travel series following the adventures of Steve, Marlene and their baby William, as they take a year away from work to tour the world. The Canadian-German family start The Sabbatical from their home in Switzerland. But with no return ticket, no home to go back to and no solid plans or professions to return to, the trio make the best of the nomadic lifestyle while adjusting to living life on the road and out of a suitcase.
