Every good story has an ending. This is ours.
After nearly a year on the road, we land on the same runway we took off from - in Zurich, Switzerland.
As expected, settling down hasn't been easy. Amidst the challenges of living in a temporary apartment, finding work and a new permanent address, we're still trying to keep the explorer's mindset.
Despite a few headaches and headwinds, coming back to Switzerland is exactly what we needed. While we may be in a familiar setting, the Sabbatical we embarked on has undoubtedly changed our perspective of home forever.

“The Sabbatical” is a hobby travel series following the adventures of Steve, Marlene and their baby William, as they take a year away from work to tour the world. The Canadian-German family start The Sabbatical from their home in Switzerland. Welcome home! Although I think it was January you landed. Well done to get this video out AND a printed album and jobs and an apartment. We popped in and out of your adventures while having our own. We just returned from France, India, Japan (yes we did fly around the world) but in 3 weeks not a year, your comment about feeling nostalgic already rings true for our short exploration. Hope this finds you all very well, the Leafs are still in the playoffs as are our beloved Canucks and I'm not sure you did it on purpose (pretty sure you didnt!) but Where the Streets Have No Name is the Canucks home game playoff theme song! I loved the video. My wife and I will spend 8 days in Switzerland this August, in some of the places you visited. Our trip will be a few days before the 44th anniversary of meeting. We drove through the country 16 years ago and have been trying to get back. Paris and Ireland have gotten in the way, but not this year. Locarno is our second stop. I chose the area because of the tiny mountain villages and my desire to photograph them. I like what I am learning about the lake side towns, as well. Thanks for sharing your 2020 adventure.
