It is difficult to find Suriname on a map. Suriname is found at the heart of the Amazon: a country of jungle. At 163,000km2, it is a sixth of the size of France, covered in dense, green forest. There are few roads and some tracks and large rivers: floating motorways where canoes serve as cars and trucks. To travel from one village to another, you don’t hit the road, you take the river… And its temperamental waters. We follow Pedro and his wife, gold miners, who must risk their lives navigating the unpredictable waters, while keeping hold of all the supplies they need, to spend the next 2 months in the gold mines. A dangerous commute to work.

Did you know....
1. that Suriname is the only sovereign nation outside Europe where Dutch is the official language? Yep. It used to be a Dutch colony. And of course, sadly, as with all colonies I know of, slave labor was the force behind the riches for the colonists.
2. Sranan Tongo, a English-based creole language is the lingua Franca.
3. Suriname is one of the few countries in the world where a synagogue is located next to a mosque. Now, I find that a nice optimistic bit of trivia that isn’t trivial at all. It shows we can live side by side. Peacefully.
4. Suriname's forest covers 90.2% of the land, the highest of any nation in the world. That’s a lot of forest.
5. Suriname is the least populated country of the Americas: under 600,000. Most live in or near the capital Paramaribo
6. There aren’t many roads. One uses rivers to get around. Canoes are the school buses of Suriname. Well, not in Paramaribo obviously but in everywhere else.
7. Suriname has a hot, wet tropical climate. Temperatures do not vary much throughout the year. Average relative humidity is between 80% and 90%. Its average temperature ranges from 29 to 34 degrees Celsius (84 to 93 degrees Fahrenheit). (Yeah, that’s a no for me. I don’t do well in hot humid climates unfortunately. I can nearly stand a NYC summer)
7. Suriname has significant oil and gold reserves. And it’s in the gold mines our two heroes Pedro and Francesca travel to.
8. Our documentary accompanies Pedro and Francesca to the gold mines where they work at least two months out of the year. The journey is unbelievably tough. I mean, like constantly loading and unloading months of supplies from those canoes into other canoes between the waterfalls that hinder a smooth one stop travel upriver to the mining camps. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Watch. You will see. It is unbelievably tough. Like
shouldering barrels of gasoline and engines while walking through the jungle to the next set of canoes.
Nevertheless, they say: we decide what we do. We are our own bosses.
10. We hope the forests of Suriname 🇸🇷 thrive for centuries to come. As well as Pedro and Francesca. May their gold mining be fruitful. And they return home safe.

it's not just for youtube.. it's just common sense for creating such a documentary it would require high budget which they can't recoup from youtube .. in fact it's intended for tv channels the creators of this documentary must have already aired this in multiple channels ie whichever channels paid for the series would have already aired this in their channels.. in the description itself it says 2015 already they have got their money back so now it doesn't matter for them whether they upload it free on youtube.. but I don't know how this youtube channel got access to this series or whether they own the rights to this documentary or the creators might have given permission for them to upload free on youtube!!
The owner of this channel has no hand in the creation of the documentaries. They were made by BBC. This channel and a bunch of others buy the rights to use them, so they can post them on here. It's a super easy way to make money. All of the channels that upload the exact same documentaries get millions and millions of veiws and have millions of subscribers. All the had to do was pay some money and then they get perfect content to get tons of veiws on. They can even just look at the other channels doing this, see what videos get the most views and then contact BBC to buy the rights to that documentary, post it and get easy money.

It is amazing to see so many different race and religion of people living in harmony. We got a lot to learn from Suriname.
That's because, liberalism, along with feminism, and the New Order order, agenda, only cares about causing disturb, chaos, making noisy and confusion where white people lives. To make them feel miserable. There, where only black people are living with others ethnic groups.. they just don't give a root...Even the black women looks different here, much more friendly, and good looking people, if compared to black women, from where liberalism ideals are dictating nowadays.

Can't believe how underrated these shows are.. I just randomly clicked on one pessimistically and the oral narration and translation kept me watching and listening bc one of my biggest pet peeves is subtitle language translation. Often Im cooking or doing some boring task where I cant just sit and keep my eyes glued the entire time reading the translation.
It's understandable in a movie without the high tech cost of voice dubbing.. But it's amazing how many documentaries or long investigative news pieces like Vice, BBC, and Corporations.. do not orally translate..
Anyways Awesome Show! They Better Get Nominated For Some Prestigious Award.. but most likely they will go unnoticed..

Many thanks for uploading this video. It's so strange to see asian people like chinese, indians and javanese in a country located in a remote part of South America that is so far away from Asia! And seeing a hindu temple and a mosque in South America is even more strange! Now i know why Suriname has little in common with the other countries in South America which are mostly catholic, spanish speaking and have very few or maybe no asian people at all. Thank u so much for showing us this country, Suriname. 🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷

I personally experienced the boat rides to the interiors of Suriname, having served in medical missions for 2 years. For most parts we go by Cessna plane, but sometimes we go by way of the rivers. The villages I served was 7 hours by boat from Atjoni (where the paved road ends- 4-5hrs from Paramaribo) during wet season (when the rivers and waterfalls are raging-a site to behold) and longer during dry season (where we walked and skipped over rocks and dry riverbeds

There is another doc I forgot the location but these men were loading up a truck with boulders the size of the that engine and they were lifting it above their heads throwing it into the back of a big truck,insanely strength and stamina

@@viraat610 When,why,why oh why?!?I mean I really don't understand that but I grow up(1979) without smartphones so maybe that's the reason why that's(on the go staring at your phone)flat earth territory to me.I get up,play some music on LCD(PC),drink coffee,get to work(I don't work state jobs so that's why I can't watch documentaries on job),get back from work,eat something,go out with my girlfriend(or friends,or both),get back to dinner and then if I(we)don't go out again we watch movies,documentaries,videos on UA-cam on 43 inches(103 cm)LCD and not on 6-7 inches.I mean do whatever rocks your boat(if it doesn't rocks mine)but yea I just don't get it.Sorry for little rambling about my daily business.

I’m from Surinam originally but i live in the Netherlands. I know all the roads and places seen in this documentary. I go 3/4 times a year to my home country. Best place to live if you don’t want any stress in life 😘🤗. Just watch out with swimming there in open water or rivers, there are piranha’s (red belly and black) and large crocodiles everywhere. What i can recommend is a deep jungle trip to everyone if your not scared of bugs and other scary flying objects and deadly spiders 😅. Very nice documentary 🌹.

They have better GDP per capita(6000$ over Kenya's 2000$)and better and longer life expectancy than in your country.There's much less crime,kidnaping and no terrorism.If I had to choose between Kenya and Suriname I would choose Suriname in a heartbeat.If you can,do not take offence with that,that's just my opinion,someones elses would be probably different.

Although it’s true that there aren’t many roads in this part of the Surinamese forest, there’s much more to Suriname than meets the eye. The capital, for example, is very different. It is refreshing to see my beautiful country this way though ☺️
