This is the first time FD is showing this episode. It is not a repost and we welcome all who are here to enjoy.
Every year, more than a million people travel from Central America thousands of miles north - attempting to reach the promised land: The USA. We hear about it on the news, sometimes daily, sometimes forgotten, tossed aside for the next headline meant to grab your attention. Yet, these people, fleeing poverty, crime and despair, are still on their respective journeys, day after day, one foot in front of the other, the only thing keeping them going is the hope, the promise they keep to themselves in their hearts; that life at the end of this arduous road will be better for them and most importantly - for their children.
It’s a journey fraught with danger. Jumping onto moving trains, they run the risk of being killed or severely mutilated. Would the people they left behind ever find out?
We follow the fate of two young Salvadorians, Jaime and Lupita, who are eloping to Texas, hope and love in their hearts. Theirs is an emotional rollercoaster, full of courage and fear, as they dodge border police, outwit robbers and fight off rapists - a journey with unimaginable hardships.
What does it take to make you leave your home, your familiar surroundings, your families? What does it take to put yourself in danger every step of the way? We try to find out.

The work that went into making this documentary leaves me speechless. It is incredible. How was the journalist able to document all this on the train and at night. He could have also got shot by the police in Mexico too by accident. It is just amazing journalism at its best. These journalists are angels because they report the truth as it is to us who never have experienced these kinds of situations. It is quite impressive. Props to the guy filming in the dark, and while walking through wilderness or train rooftops!
I wonder how on earth did they get Jaime and his group to trust them? They must have created an excellent rapport with him or maybe some sort of financial agreement. Illegal refugees are not likely to trust a film crew looking to tag along and document a clandestine journey. There's too much of a risk of getting betrayed by the film crew, not to mention they are releasing sensitive information and footage that could compromise the refugees upon documentary's release.
I suspect the names of people and places may also have been changed for confidentiality...

the documentary is actually French (i think a tony comiti production, he is pretty famous as a producer out here) and at the end, the journalists tell what happened (here it's been removed here not sure why) : Lupita and her bf made it to brownsville, she got pregnant and they plan on getting married. Nestor made it too and joined his family in Los Angeles -- but the journaliststs had no news about the other ones (Blanca Dora, Ruth and Francisco) and were not able to locate them, or get any news from them.
