It is always a great pleasure to meet up with my good friend Kevin Boothby of the UA-cam Channel: How to Sail Oceans. We had a terrific chat that went on for hours, this is just part of it. We are true kindred spirits! *Patreons now have access to Wave Rover's real time position via Garmin mapshare*

If you are wondering what I've been up to when not sailing Wave Rover check out my other channel: Rover's Rest: / @roversrest
Thank you and fair winds
Great to see two legends of solo sailing meet up and hear their thoughts on past and present sailing. Fair winds to you both and thanks for sharing.
We have met up twice now. We seem to have a lot in common.
Nice video. You two solos are not alone.
Old sea dog on the older side,Sam Holmes sailing and wind Hippe a few on you tube. I see others in and out of the marina.. thanks be safe
What a delightful conversation and thanks for introducing me to Kevin! You certainly enjoy each other’s company and I look forward to your next meeting when you’ll have an epic voyage to chat about! Hold fast! ⛵️🇨🇦⚓️😄
It's like going to a Neil Young concert, and finding out Bob Dylan is opening for him. Thanks for a great show!
Well said😂
I had to import a Origo via ebay from the USA all the way down here to NZ. Cost me a pretty packet, but worth it. Crazy they no longer make them. Kev is a champion sailor and appears a champion bloke too. Bravo.
We always have a great time when we get together
Two of my favourite sailors talk about my favourite topics! Superb!
Great conversation of two legends!! Fair winds!!
Two of my heroes in one video. Großartig! Enjoyed the conversation.
Two of my "BESTEST" authentic blue water adventurers with/without engines!! Their presence reminds me of the "GHOST & Mrs MUIR" as the Captain "Ghost" (Rex Harrison) engages the widow to write a "sailor" record at sea. I am near 80 prepping for "one more" at sea in my CD 30 Ketch with my devoted Labrador "Sully". God Speed to you both and embrace my spirit at the "hint of the dawn" every day to pray "NEVER SAY NEVER" in the fairest winds and foul! Well Done "BRAVO ZULU" (USN)
Oh, this is the best ever! I really got a little teary when you wished one another well at Kevin's departure. You two gents are the ones I watch the most. Fair winds to you both, and bless you.
Great video. For sure there's a lot of sea knowledge and miles sailed between the two of you.
Very nice to have friends.
I’m a Kevin Boothby fan. That was most enjoyable. Thank you.
Unique people.
Super! Two of my favorite sailors.
I’ve watched HtStO for a couple of years, found Kevin’s channel with the how to sail a gaff rig episode. Found Wave Rover about half way into build. Both gentlemen are inspirational and entertaining, fair winds and follows seas to you both.
Thanks to Alan for taking the time. Fair winds across the Atlantic!
Ole Kevin Boothby. The best sailor on youtube.
Ahaha what a pleasant surprise. Two of my favourite YTers meeting up and doing a cozy colab video. Love to see it!
Hi Alan, I loved this video between Kevin and yourself. You showed your Oriego alchol stove. You mentioned that they are not available anymore. I'm doing up an old Achilles 24. I just fitted a copy of the stove made by a company called Spirituskocher stove. An excellent stove and worth a look.
Keep the great videos coming. 0:24
Hi Gavin, have you got a link to Spirituskocher website or a company selling them?
Love to see the Nova Scotia cruising guide on Kevin's bookshelf!
The problem with you two is you’re too busy sailing to watch the Tubes. Not a problem that I have😂
I do not understand how the UA-cam algorithm let me skip this video😢 speaking of Awesome UA-cam channels tally ho! somebody has to mention that... If you don't know look it up it speaks for itself! On the second anniversary of my father's passing Leo release the video of her setting sail for the first time after 7 years of restoration❤ my Dad loved that boat!! how can we ignore sailing parlay Revival, this past weekend he just ripped with the Canadians in New Zealand for the F50! Acorn to Arabella is also a banger
Two of my favourite folks on youtube. Would love to shoot the breeze with you guys. 😁😁
Imagine if these two were President and Prime Minister. We'd be in the good timeline. Two cool dudes, thanks for sharing the exchange.
Kevin is the man!
Thank you. I really enjoyed this.
What a nice Video. Thank you both!!☮️
Thank you!
Exactly that is the appeal. Its easy to throw a lot of money at things to make them easier. I like all the "normal" or regular people sailing videos.
Very Nice to see You two guys together. I would recomend you Sailing Comino. This guy sailed halfaroundthe world on a 22 ft.
Very good match!
The cruising world is a small world.. 🙂
Great video, from two of my favourite sailing channels!
Have you thought about writing books about your sailing?
I love reading sailor's accounts of their adventures, especially 19th and early 20th century. It's hard to imagine that people's videos will be accessible 100 years from now, but written accounts would be.
That being said, there are actually plenty of old films on YT, so maybe the current crop will just be converted and reuploaded to whatever new platforms/technologies come along?
How to sail ocean is the real deal!
These two guys are the best channels on utube.....Crack On!!!!
Enjoyed that. I know you said you did not watch too many sailing channels but at least try to watch Patrick Laine (great humour and humility) and Erik Aanderaa (No Bullshit - Just Sailing).
Good to see you crazy kids together
I’ll start following him. I like UA-cam videos that have not much “fluff“ to them. I would rather watch videos that are direct to the point-without without the long openings etc.
Is there a bit more of y'all speaking about him and a 'smaller boat'? I know and understand why you have your 650, so to hear that coming from him is, well, intriguing at the least, and I'd like to hear more about what prompts the thought and your discussion, as work on my Ariel proceeds.
Especially what with the news about a 19' Ming Ming III on the way. :)
Also - good to see how you are doing/what your plans are vis a vis carnivore and cruising...
Fair winds, Alan!
Large double smoked hams. Spicy Sausages . These meats last quite a while.
Good man Kevin, Ribeye stake!
43 is a prime number. It’s a good number for a solo sailor.
Your comments about SPAM led me down to the emergency supplies to check out the ingredients list on a can. They are listed as: Pork, Water, Salt, Modified potato starch, Sugar, Sodium nitrite - not an exhaustive long list in my humble opinion & when fried in a pan, it tastes like "bacon" & with that comment, I rest my case. I do agree with you about the whole milk comment though.
Check out the Wind Hippie , solo sailer Holly Martin can sail.
Looks like both of you guys use GoPros. I've been watching both your channels for some time now. Break a leg on your voyage.
“Is that a prime?” The real Kevin .
Would of loved to hear more from Kevin. Too much about Allen and not enough from Kevin.
Waisted opportunity.
I'm surprised when talking about food, neither sailor mentioned fishing? You have all the time and the ocean at your mercy? Is it incredibly difficult to catch fish while cruising?
Yes, it is fairly difficult to catch a fish while cruising. Most fish live close to the shore. But using the right bait it's certainly possible to catch something now and then.
Sam Holms shows ocean sailing and Sailing Brothers.
Spam, Spam, Spam, Eggs, and Spam.
No bikinis.
Seems pretty remiss not to post Kevin's YT links etc in your own videos. He seems like a standup guy and I'd agree - tinned meat is a whole lot better than veganism 🤣
Outside of cry babies and their false belief about nitrates, there are no bad ingredients in spam. Its pork shoulder trimmings, potato starch, salt and water. Spam gets a bad rap.
Other great solo-sailing channels: @samholmessailing, @WindHippieSailing, @AdventuresofanoldSeadog
Also Olivia Wyatt - Wilderness of Waves
Two of my fav channels ....glad you two got a chance of a chin wag.
Very good match!
