However, the crew neglected to remove the primers from the cartridges, and at some point before the fatal event, one of the rounds had been fired. It was the early-80s, and the man wasn't the legend Earnhardt was, but the one I remember most is Gordon Eugene Smiley. He was practicing for the Indy 500, and his car veered into the wall, killing him instantly. The papers had pictures - one of the immediate aftermath of his car going nose-first into the wall... It showed his body, mid-air, amongst the flying debris that used to be an Indy-car. I don't know if it made the papers nation-wide, but I lived in Indy at the time (my grandmother still lives 8 blocks rom the Brickyard, and you can stand on the corner of her street and see the grandstands along the straightaway... still occasionally see her house when the blimp shows the areas around the track). This was back when the 200MPH mark was brand-new, and the discussions in the paper were about how that speed was going to cause a wave of these kinds of accidents, as humans just couldn't react fast enough at those speeds... like a speed of 195 was SO much slower it would make a difference.
@RichardPierpoint-di8fi By the 90s, I eas no longer living in Indiana, and didn't get the pervasive news coverage every May. I'm not really a racing fan, I just grew up in a location it was impossible to not pick up at least a little.
I still remember where I was when I heard Steve Irwin had died. I've now been a volunteer wildlife rescuer and carer for more than 30 years, mostly raising joeys. You're an inspiration still Steve Irwin!
I recalled watching Tommy Cooper perform that night and as usual, he had everyone in attendance and watching at home, laughing their heads off. When he fell backwards, the laughter continued for another 20 seconds. And when the curtain came down, the longest TV commercial break, lasting around 7 minutes, was witnessed, practically unseen back in 1984. It was heartbreaking to hear of Tommy Cooper’s passing a few hours later, coupled with the fact that Britain lost another comedic legend called Eric Morecombe one month later. Those were great times in British comedy as we will never see the likes of Tommy Cooper and Eric Morecombe again.
There was another dude Jon Erik Hexum who played an action type role back in a show called Cover Up (80's?) who was messing around with a prop gun n pointed it at his own head. Was a tragedy, really liked the show when I was a kid and he was a very handsome man with a big career ahead of him.

What happens to Christina Grimme is so tragic. I was a longtime fan of hers since the early days of her UA-cam channel. She had so much love and so much more life to live.
I remember when my mom told me the news about Steve Irwin. When she told me what happened, I remember thinking she was trying to play a joke on me. Carl Walenda's walk was broadcasted live in Puerto Rico. I know because I remember watching it and hearing the news anchor, Guillermo José Torres, commenting on Mr. Walenda's accomplishments, when the wind picked up, Guillermo José Torres commenting when he stopped and then crying out when he fell. We saw some of the fall, live on TV here in PR. They didn't show his landing on the ground, they went to commercials. And started showing a movie. The reason that "footage" is a rarity on YT is because of their rules. It is basically against guidelines to show human death and many other things. It's mostly an automated system that watches for and removes content that breaches the ToS but it's not uncommon for stuff to slip thru the cracks. Tbh if this were a bigger channel it would most likely have been taken down
When that happens I immediately ask God to accept the soul with His love of the person who just died. I did that many times when I worked in the hospital. I do the same when I see an animal die. To me, a life is a special gift from God. Most of you won't understand what I'm saying, but that's all right too.
My wife's dad was told he needed stints. For EIGHT months he went through all sorts of tests. They even pulled all his teeth. His surgery was delayed a week because of "back logs". The Sad part about Dick Shawn was just before he collapsed, he said to the audience, "Wouldn't be funny if I had a heart attack?". He knew what was happening and made a joke about it, but that kept the audience from reacting for help, because they thought it was a joke.

The stingray didn’t understand what a huge mistake, taking Steve from the wildlife world, was. He and his family, truly do amazing conservation work, buying land purely so no development can occur, in order to preserve it for the animals. That is true love for wildlife, because they won’t profit from the land, it’s just to save it from becoming yet another concrete jungle. Steve will forever be missed 😢
The stingray didn't make a mistake, Steve Irwin did. The water was murky and Steve was swimming above the stingray in a position that his body blocked the sun rays. The stingray took this interruption of sunlight as the arrival of its mortal enemy a shark, it didn't waste a second and propped it'ss thorny tail edge upward piercing Steve's chest and a portion of his heart. The water around turned red with blood gushing from Steve's wound. Was taken above into his boat but uttered just one line " I think I'm dying " and went into comma because of significant blood loss. He was air lifted via a chopper to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. RIP Steve Irwin. 😢
@ You’re right, I didn’t mean it as a mistake, I meant that it didn’t realize who he was…not that a stingray would, but you know what I mean 🥴 Great explanation though, thank you.

However, the crew neglected to remove the primers from the cartridges, and at some point before the fatal event, one of the rounds had been fired. Although there were no powder charges, the energy from the ignited primer was enough to separate the bullet from the casing and push it part-way into the gun barrel, where it got stuck-a dangerous condition known as a squib load. Irene Ryan (Granny on "The Beverly Hillbillies") also died on stage in a play back in the '70s. A friend of mine was there when it happened. She died doing what she loved.
That's not exactly the case: On March 10, 1973, Ryan suffered an apparent stroke during a performance of Pippin, flew home to California on her doctor's orders, and was hospitalized. She was diagnosed with an inoperable glioblastoma (malignant brain tumor). Ryan died at St. John's Hospital, Santa Monica, California, on April 26, 1973, aged 70. The causes of death were given as glioblastoma and arteriosclerotic heart disease. Her body was interred in a mausoleum at the Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Santa Monica beside her sister, Anna Thompson.

@PunkNetrunner Yeah, but man, did we love him!
Dale Earnhardt 2/18/2001 Daytona 500
Yes. He was old enough to know better
@@joshuahoward1680 There was also Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna at Imola on 1st May,1994 - just saying...
@RichardPierpoint-di8fi By the 90s, I eas no longer living in Indiana, and didn't get the pervasive news coverage every May.

@ You’re right, I didn’t mean it as a mistake, I meant that it didn’t realize who he was…not that a stingray would, but you know what I mean 🥴 Great explanation though, thank you.
he had no love for wildlife. If he had he wouldn't have constantly interfered with it to try and make himself look good. grabbing at a sting ray? What did he think would happen?

I remember it well was a kid we were watching, he went down and audience thought it was part of the act, then commercial break was horrifying.
TOMMY. ASIN TOMEEEE..NOT TOME COOPER. UNFORTUNATE IGNORANT COMMENTRY..

😂 it was shocking
I always felt her performances to be electrifying. Such a powerful undercurrent and energy that threatened to take you away at any moment. It was nearly impossible to keep your feet from moving.
