There is also the Team Fortress 2 method of team balance: in-game team rebalance. A one-sided (casual) game will have players switch teams if things are too one-sided, even if you queue in a group. It's one of the main reasons a game turns into a dance party. Stomping too hard can turn into you having to even things back out, so why not hoof around?

I’m unable to play video games as much as I used to but BattleBit Remastered is the game I go to when I want to feel like a well oiled machine of teamwork and stupidity.
Yeah a big point back in the day for me was COD was really good for a quick 10 minute match before having to leave for school or work, Battlefield matches are so much longer that wouldn't work out if I was in a smaller time frame, so Battlefield was for after work or at night and COD was something before work such as Gun Game.

To be fair modern pc parts shouldn’t catch fire period. It should either shut down from over heating or simply die without the smoke/sparking. If there’s any way for said hardware to catch fire via running software that’s no longer on the game developer. That’s on the manufacturer. Or user error. Which can still fall on the manufacturer anyways depending on the situation. Remember there are programs that, for various reasons, have significantly higher workload then battlefield at it worse. Only way a game can be at fault is if it’s rewriting bios/firmware to run the hardware unsafely. TL:DR if the pc catch fire and burn down your house while playing a game. 99% of the time you can sue the hardware manufacturer not the game developers.
1:06:15 Forge was a GODSEND of a feature. My favorite maps were all Forge maps, and the sheer creative freedom you could express was peak Halo multiplayer. I had a series of maps I made with some friends' help where each one was themed around a potential retaking of Reach campaign. My favorite was an Attackers-Defenders layout where the UNSC spawn was a forward operating base to gear up with power weapons and board Falcons to assault a Covenant air base with stationary defenses, sniper positions, and Banshee platforms. Makes me wish I still had my 360 and Reach just to go back and walk around all those old maps we made again.

popularity is at best an indicator to see which media are more/less likely to appeal to you. Assuming you are an average Joe, which most people are. Hype and hate can be articially boosted or even created, on top of publicity becoming more and more of a sign of bad quality (they need to boost interest pre release, or they wont sell jack shyte). so it's no wonder that players turn more and more towards indie games. Which imho is always a plus. There are so many gems that pass under the mainstream radar.
People fancy themselves gods at the game right until they get flanked. Applying military tactics does work to an extent but you have to account for the fact that people respawn and have the knowledge of where you were when you murked them.
Dragon ball the breakers has lost a lot of the playerbase once Sparking Zero came out, but paradoxically it improved the experience. Because a lot of the toxic players and griefers have moved on. Sometimes a playerbase shrinking can help, and play a game because it's fun. Edit: No that's on GameStop because they've done that before. You paid for a product and if they didn't have the version you ordered they should've told you and refunded you.

Frankly, I love playing games with people around my skill level. For example, COD BO2. I played against people above my level and never improved, against people below my level and never felt challenged. The real thing is the best case scenario, everyone in the lobby getting roughly close to the same skill level. If your team is at your level, stick with them. Watch what they do, what might be an idea to try or cool trick you see that might help you develop some new skills. Watch their failures, learn from what they did wrong, then try to teach them if you can so they improve with you and you both make progress. If you make progress, and the people helping you make progress with you, you will keep improving. That's why my motto for PVP games is always: "I'm not competing with my enemies, my teammates, or even myself, I am only trying to challenge us to be better as a whole."
I think Badger brings up good points towards the specialists. I think I came to similar if not the same standpoint through my time playing the game. I feel like the biggest thing about the negativity that the specialists get is that when the game released it was in the middle of the Hero Shooter gold rush and they took the idea and went all the way with it. It felt more like a cash grab gimmick over a genuine attempt at innovation. Where as if they added a "subclass" system I think it would've been recieved with less hostility. If that makes sense.
Specialist as a way to create new subclasses based on "old 4" is probably the best idea that Dice ever thought of. The problem is that the implementation was pretty bad. If they combine current class system of 2042 with scrapped Archetypes of BFV, we might have the best class system yet. On paper at least
Tourist mentality is fine, the problem is nobody actually likes Tourists because they shit all over where they visit and then they leave you and people who actually care about the place with a mess.

I have played Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, and Elder Ring for hundreds of hours each, and yet I always have just as much trouble with the bosses as I did the first time around. Playing Mario is the same-I'm just as likely to jump down a ravine the millionth time I play a level as I was the first time I played it. If getting good at games was a progression bar, then I'm locked at 20% or something. Tactical/strategic games where my mental abilities are more important than my motor functions are the exception. I'm great at games like XCOM and Rimworld where my personal skills aren't required. So I'm constantly looking at games like a tourist, all while attempting to push that progress bar just a little further so I can finally level up and "get good."
If you like the game then play it. I play Planetside 2, despite EVERY UA-cam channel saying it's a dying game. During prime time we still get more players then quite a few current gen shooters. Yes Battlefield has a massive battles, but no other game I've found can bring together vehicle, air, and infantry combat as seamlessly as PS2 does.
Planetside 2 has been "dying" for years. I still hear people having a lot of fun with the game. It's also got a longstanding history being live, and like you said a large enough playerbase to compete with modern titles. Enjoy what you like 100%.

Please don't ever feel the need to apologize for pausing and adding to the video that you are reacting to. That is something that I think needs to be FAR more prevalent in reaction content. In fact, pausing the video actually incentivizes people to go watch the original way more than someone who just lets the video play uninterrupted, since your video becomes more of an "in addition to" instead of an "instead of" video.
48:00 I think the best way to describe this difference is that Call of Duty is and always has been an Arcade Shooter while Battlefield has been a Simulation Shooter. Even when CoD was taking itself much more seriously, the subgenre it occupied let it be more of a casual experience. Now, with Skeletor jumpshotting Doja Cat while Alucard caps B, it's leaning way more heavily into the Arcade portion of Arcade Shooter. And that is the kind of game where server lottery is just par for the course and part of the experience. Battlefield on the other hand has always been a more "serious" game, where teamplay and communication was and is the core of the gameplay loop. And in that case, the server lottery can and will make or break a game.
It's annoying to see so many gamers just outright hate or love a game as if it's impossible to have more than one favorite. It ends the discussion so fast and even if you try to engage those type of people it's like talking to a brick wall. Meanwhile I'm in love with Dark Souls 2 but I'm also able to see that it's the weakest modern From Software game. Being able to separate subjective enjoyment from objective facts WITHOUT feeling attacked for your opinion feels like a lost art. This is one reason why I love Badger, he focuses on the fun he's having but he also doesn't ignore flaws and he points out the good things a bad game has going for it.

So reprinting it in a special collector's rarity with the same game? Nah, that gets me. I'm on board with that one 🤣

i remember playing in BF4 and servers would ban people for using anti-air rockets while allowing Apache's and Overwatch choppers. its almost like the server asmin wants to use a chopper without ever getting shot down and make the entire game unfair
My thought on ways to keep battlefield feeling like battlefield, if not making some buildings 5 inch thick steel (aka, make it indestructible from explosives), add a fail condition where if an important building, say the building holding the objective, has the wrong walls blown out for it to fall, then the team that did it loses. That leans explosives in the favor of the defenders shooting outside the base while making the attacking team require tactics to succeed with the objective and could be a "surrender" alternative for matches that ended long ago.

BF was always known for its larger maps and longer distance fighting, but the maps that 2042 launched with were horrendous... one guy capping D? spawn in, kill him and then its time to walk for 7 minutes through open nothingness! bad game design!!! They did redo the maps and bring back 32v32 though eventually and thats what brought me back. It's still not as good as BF3 or BF4, but it scratches the itch I want it to scratch.

12:36 I used to spam rockets like crazy specially in CoD with the Javalin in the large team fights since back then they had the ammo crates for resupply sitting on the back of the map and all you needed was to sit on top of it, toss a trophy system to avoid getting blasted along with smoke grenades and switching the Javalin's monitor to thermal to fire through the smoke and you would end up with technically a missile system if you had at least 3 people rotaring fire.

To be fair modern pc parts shouldn’t catch fire period. It should either shut down from over heating or simply die without the smoke/sparking.
If there’s any way for said hardware to catch fire via running software that’s no longer on the game developer. That’s on the manufacturer. Or user error. Which can still fall on the manufacturer anyways depending on the situation.
Remember there are programs that, for various reasons, have significantly higher workload then battlefield at it worse.
Only way a game can be at fault is if it’s rewriting bios/firmware to run the hardware unsafely.
TL:DR if the pc catch fire and burn down your house while playing a game. 99% of the time you can sue the hardware manufacturer not the game developers.

1:06:15 Forge was a GODSEND of a feature. My favorite maps were all Forge maps, and the sheer creative freedom you could express was peak Halo multiplayer. I had a series of maps I made with some friends' help where each one was themed around a potential retaking of Reach campaign. My favorite was an Attackers-Defenders layout where the UNSC spawn was a forward operating base to gear up with power weapons and board Falcons to assault a Covenant air base with stationary defenses, sniper positions, and Banshee platforms. Makes me wish I still had my 360 and Reach just to go back and walk around all those old maps we made again.

popularity is at best an indicator to see which media are more/less likely to appeal to you. Assuming you are an average Joe, which most people are.
Hype and hate can be articially boosted or even created, on top of publicity becoming more and more of a sign of bad quality (they need to boost interest pre release, or they wont sell jack shyte). so it's no wonder that players turn more and more towards indie games. Which imho is always a plus. There are so many gems that pass under the mainstream radar.

Dragon ball the breakers has lost a lot of the playerbase once Sparking Zero came out, but paradoxically it improved the experience. Because a lot of the toxic players and griefers have moved on. Sometimes a playerbase shrinking can help, and play a game because it's fun.

I’m very much with badgers stance on how he views games. Many people, including the act man, fuckin despise dragon age 2. I absolutely love it, as it was honestly my first entry into the series. Now I will absolutely acknowledge a games faults, like how DA2 just constantly reuse dungeons

Frankly, I love playing games with people around my skill level. For example, COD BO2. I played against people above my level and never improved, against people below my level and never felt challenged. The real thing is the best case scenario, everyone in the lobby getting roughly close to the same skill level. If your team is at your level, stick with them. Watch what they do, what might be an idea to try or cool trick you see that might help you develop some new skills. Watch their failures, learn from what they did wrong, then try to teach them if you can so they improve with you and you both make progress. If you make progress, and the people helping you make progress with you, you will keep improving. That's why my motto for PVP games is always: "I'm not competing with my enemies, my teammates, or even myself, I am only trying to challenge us to be better as a whole."
I think Badger brings up good points towards the specialists. I think I came to similar if not the same standpoint through my time playing the game. I feel like the biggest thing about the negativity that the specialists get is that when the game released it was in the middle of the Hero Shooter gold rush and they took the idea and went all the way with it. It felt more like a cash grab gimmick over a genuine attempt at innovation. Where as if they added a "subclass" system I think it would've been recieved with less hostility. If that makes sense.
Specialist as a way to create new subclasses based on "old 4" is probably the best idea that Dice ever thought of. The problem is that the implementation was pretty bad. If they combine current class system of 2042 with scrapped Archetypes of BFV, we might have the best class system yet. On paper at least

I have played Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, and Elder Ring for hundreds of hours each, and yet I always have just as much trouble with the bosses as I did the first time around. Playing Mario is the same-I'm just as likely to jump down a ravine the millionth time I play a level as I was the first time I played it. If getting good at games was a progression bar, then I'm locked at 20% or something. Tactical/strategic games where my mental abilities are more important than my motor functions are the exception. I'm great at games like XCOM and Rimworld where my personal skills aren't required. So I'm constantly looking at games like a tourist, all while attempting to push that progress bar just a little further so I can finally level up and "get good."

If you like the game then play it. I play Planetside 2, despite EVERY UA-cam channel saying it's a dying game. During prime time we still get more players then quite a few current gen shooters. Yes Battlefield has a massive battles, but no other game I've found can bring together vehicle, air, and infantry combat as seamlessly as PS2 does.
Planetside 2 has been "dying" for years. I still hear people having a lot of fun with the game. It's also got a longstanding history being live, and like you said a large enough playerbase to compete with modern titles.

Please don't ever feel the need to apologize for pausing and adding to the video that you are reacting to. That is something that I think needs to be FAR more prevalent in reaction content. In fact, pausing the video actually incentivizes people to go watch the original way more than someone who just lets the video play uninterrupted, since your video becomes more of an "in addition to" instead of an "instead of" video.
48:00 I think the best way to describe this difference is that Call of Duty is and always has been an Arcade Shooter while Battlefield has been a Simulation Shooter. Even when CoD was taking itself much more seriously, the subgenre it occupied let it be more of a casual experience. Now, with Skeletor jumpshotting Doja Cat while Alucard caps B, it's leaning way more heavily into the Arcade portion of Arcade Shooter. And that is the kind of game where server lottery is just par for the course and part of the experience. Battlefield on the other hand has always been a more "serious" game, where teamplay and communication was and is the core of the gameplay loop. And in that case, the server lottery can and will make or break a game.
It's annoying to see so many gamers just outright hate or love a game as if it's impossible to have more than one favorite. It ends the discussion so fast and even if you try to engage those type of people it's like talking to a brick wall.
Meanwhile I'm in love with Dark Souls 2 but I'm also able to see that it's the weakest modern From Software game. Being able to separate subjective enjoyment from objective facts WITHOUT feeling attacked for your opinion feels like a lost art. This is one reason why I love Badger, he focuses on the fun he's having but he also doesn't ignore flaws and he points out the good things a bad game has going for it.

So reprinting it in a special collector's rarity with the same game? Nah, that gets me. I'm on board with that one 🤣

The best gun is the Avancys. LMG with 200 rounds, 800rpm, 50 base damage a bullet, holographic sights, and you can give it 0 recoil. A 0 RECOIL LMG. Honestly, just the best thing in the game
i remember playing in BF4 and servers would ban people for using anti-air rockets while allowing Apache's and Overwatch choppers. its almost like the server asmin wants to use a chopper without ever getting shot down and make the entire game unfair
My thought on ways to keep battlefield feeling like battlefield, if not making some buildings 5 inch thick steel (aka, make it indestructible from explosives), add a fail condition where if an important building, say the building holding the objective, has the wrong walls blown out for it to fall, then the team that did it loses. That leans explosives in the favor of the defenders shooting outside the base while making the attacking team require tactics to succeed with the objective and could be a "surrender" alternative for matches that ended long ago.
What a stupid way to introduce griefing to Battlefield... Like, has it not crossed your mind that someone might intentionally end match early?

BF was always known for its larger maps and longer distance fighting, but the maps that 2042 launched with were horrendous... one guy capping D? spawn in, kill him and then its time to walk for 7 minutes through open nothingness! bad game design!!! They did redo the maps and bring back 32v32 though eventually and thats what brought me back. It's still not as good as BF3 or BF4, but it scratches the itch I want it to scratch.

the real answer 0, if no one is playing it then its a dead game even if only one remaining its still not a dead game but a dying one but i actually haven't seen one true death unless the devs pull the plug.
I don't mean this as a bad thing, but I will never understand how some react tubers can talk enough during a 40 minute video to literally double the length it should take to react to the video. I just don't have that much to say; I'd be struggling hard.

All I am going to say is if you and a bunch of others decide to set up a camp and just snipe all game in the same spots, I am going to noob tube to force everyone to break up the camp. And I am absolutely not going to feel guilty when people scream noob tube. And for servers who allow mass snipe camps but ban noob tubes, no one likes your server just ban me so it doesn't show up as a option for me so I know what server sucks.
Those servers are always odd to me. Just use the noob toob. Who cares? Especially in a game from 2008.

Yeah I mean arguably Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is dead but I still enjoy it. Sure, I might only play co-op and Starfighter Assault but that doesn't mean I don't have fun. You can still easily find lobbies on the weekends, and the cheaters have all but fucked off at this point. So yeah, play whatever brings you happiness.

Co-op is the best part to me. I enjoy just having the 4 man squad experience against the AI and just chilling.

12:36 I used to spam rockets like crazy specially in CoD with the Javalin in the large team fights since back then they had the ammo crates for resupply sitting on the back of the map and all you needed was to sit on top of it, toss a trophy system to avoid getting blasted along with smoke grenades and switching the Javalin's monitor to thermal to fire through the smoke and you would end up with technically a missile system if you had at least 3 people rotaring fire.
