Our aeration system runs year round, but we don't ice fish. If you feel the vegetation is getting out of control, I do recommend grass carp. You wouldn't need a lot. I generally go with the start small method. Maybe 2 per acre and if you are not satisfied with the results after a year, maybe add 1 or 2 more.
Thanks…I agree with the starting small. I’ll monitor things this year to see. I’ve already noticed a clearing up of the water in the shallows from the beneficial bacteria and phos binder. I don’t think grass carp eat cattails. That’s my main concern so far this year.
@newnatureadventures I think they do. We used to have a lot of cattails along the edges of our lake, and then one year the drain pipe got clogged and the water level rose a couple feet and all of a sudden all the cattails were gone. I think all the carp ate them all. We had quite a few more carp than we thought we had.
