Russ Pahl is on a different planet than most. What an incredible groove he laid down on pedal steel. I have not heard anything like that on steel guitar. Another great video thanks to Kenny and Fender.

Such a great lesson. Layering with slightly different tones and textures is not only ok but a great way to create a unique sound

Great playing! Steel guitar is a whole 'nuther instrument. It's a lot harder than it looks. This was a great serious - thank you!!!

I had to pause arkt 2 49, to say the man playing lap steel pedal steel, whichever it is, is BAD ASS, HOLY SHIT, I love that, I gotta learn how to do something like that. That lick/riff hes rockin out reminds me of Mr Tom Morello. I'm highly impressed, Kinda sad though, it reminds me how much I suck at regular guitar.....sigh..

Russ Pahl reminds me of myself when he hears a track he automatically tunes into a grove without writing anything down .

It seem like the experts rely on Fender as their goto tone. I've yet to own a Fender amp maybe someday. :O)

Any idea on how to get more info on the track they’re working on?

Another thing for myself to note. As good as this sounds on track (it sounds phenomenal) I cannot switch from tubes yet, the response is just different. IR’s and the modeling have came so damn close, but just cannot change how a guitar player actually plays and intertwines with their equipment. Tube also still add overtones and harmonica that cannot be replicated in the digital domain efficiently.
Overall, if this amp was recorded and ran through UAD2 or similar plugs the harmonics could be re-instantiated, the color could be made, the power could be gain addressed.
Low-and-behold the answer is more simple. Buy a tube amp and great microphones (57+121) then position then correctly (most important part). Once that is done it is much easier to adjust levels for the sound and also you don’t have to shell out 1K (U$) for a solid state amp that is inferior to hand wired and tube amplifiers.

Just cause something' Unique, does not make it great. But I would have to hear the vocal on this song to see if all of this fits Together.. There's nothing new happening here that delays stuff has been done many times but mostly on regular guitar.. So it does give it more uniqueness.. But it almost sounds like a drunk steel player who accidentally plugged into the guitar player's rig..

I like it's playing but this does not do much for me.. This is all just hit-and-miss.. The best solo Russell's ever played on record is mark chestnuts. Rainy day woman.. He played it better than Mooney did. On the original Wayland Jennings record..

    Seriously..move over Paul Franklin...

No Russ is a really good musician but he's Is not a Paul Franklin type of player. And Russ will tell you that himself he's very humble. I saw him on the opry About 20 years ago, I was playing with Ray Price and he was with Vince Gill and we were walking past each other. And he looked up at me and he said" oh look a real steel player" Russ does things other players don't do.. But he's not buddy Emmons and Paul Franklin. But Russ will surprise you when you least expect it. But yeah he's more into doing things that others don't.
