Somehow I don’t recall ever seeing this kangaroo film with the classic Kangaroo blues song by Joe Raposo. (I mean, I definitely remembered the other one which has also been on UA-cam), but this one with the kids watching the kangaroos I don’t seem to remember at all.
Announcer: Birds in the sky, Beast on the land, Fish in the sea, and bugs in your hands. It's a Sesame Street Creature Feature..... Today's Creature is a Kangaroo.
It does have that kind of sound. I think it sounds like the early days of Springsteen and the E Street Band. Though judging by these lyrics, I wonder if Raposo just added kangaroo lines to a regular rock song: "There's something in your pocket that you can't deny-- And folks are always starin' at you - me oh my!"
What accounts for Australia’s unique animals like the kangaroo and emu has an interesting history: this basically has to do with Australia being the only country that is also a continent, thus many centuries ago after the “land masses” which over the eons became the continents had “split off” or away from each other, after this had happened Australia had been left in complete isolation. Hence, due to being “cut off” from all the other continents (and being “completely down under”), again this was how all these unique mammals had developed and came to be-the mother kangaroo carrying its young in a pouch on its body, the platypus being the only mammal that lays eggs(of course its duck like appearance and quality makes it easy for us to believe it would lay eggs like a bird,) yet it’s actually a mammal. Just had to share this interesting information on Australia’s famous unique animals.
I remember this one. It's a great song but for some reason, years ago when I was recording Sesame Street, I wasn't interested in it. Of course, as more time goes by, it's become more nostalgic to me.
The song is misleading...the kngaroos aren't lonely--there must be a dozen of them. Theyre not neglected--theyre fed and cared for (it's a zoo after all) The orginal title was "Kangaroo blues" so that's why the lyrics are a bit depressing.
Do you have the old Sesame Street theme song at the beginning and the end? I can't remember how the closing song sounded and the current one is so not melodic.
@DanaAbel30 According to Wikipedia, John B. Haviland, an expert in Aboriginal linguistics, disproved that in the 70s. Nice story at least--shame it's apparently not the real explanation.
Surprisingly enough, they got they name by mistake, b/c when the British claimed Australia as a prison colony, and asked the local aborigines what kind of animal they were, in which are a special of rabbit, they aborigines gave the word "Kangaroo" as a native word meaning "I'm not sure."
somehow, randomly, 48 or 50 years after watching this show daily, in the middle of a work day, somehow... i remembered THIS song!
This song always made me feel sad for the kangaroos.
Another gem from the great Joe Raposo that I ain’t heard in decades! Peace.
I remember this - I was in first grade when the very first Sesame Street aired.
This reminds me there was a film of a green & yellow snake hanging from some branch wich also takes place in a zoo.
Love to see that one again.
Happy birthday Richard 2 years old to me

i have always loved that funky music :D
YEAH! I ALWAYS knew that line was wrong! Kangaroos in zoos (no rhyme intended) are NOT neglected!
it's like Randy Newman meets Leon Russell. Pretty neat!
You're right This wasn't the original film.
Ihope sooner or later thye other 1 will pop up.

Thanks a lot for the video.
Kangaroos are just one of the animal species that carry young in pouches; they are marsupials. All Australian mammals are pretty much like that.

I don't care if the video is different. As long as the audio is still the same.
What do you do when you're a kangaroo?
You jump around, of course! Jump up, jump up and get down!
Jump! Jump! Jump!......
To be more precise, it was Captain Cook who asked that. And the word actually meant "I don't understand you".
Gosh, these lyrics are depressing. A lonesome, neglected kangaroo. What DO you do?
At 0:55 . . . Jason Gould, son of Elliot Gould (the first Mr. Streisand) and stepson of the current Mr. Streisand (James Brolin).
1:10 that’s not a kangaroo that is a wallaby
I don't remember having ever seen this one, but perhaps I just edited it out for being mudane...(I remember lots of the other non-Aus animal ones)

This is not the original. There were no kids in the first version.
Kellie Gradine The song is original. The video is a different one.
So this was Joe Raposo's last Sesame Street song?
What do you do...
